ProTank 2 help/replacement

Hey guys! Relatively new to all this; officially haven't purchased a pack of smokes in over a month! I am feeling absolutely euphoric over sticking with my vape-- but it's pretty easy with all the products that are available. I started with a VS2, then quickly upgraded to a MVP 2.0 with my protank 2. I was very satisfied with the quality of vapor I was getting with this combination, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to use my protank because it floods within a few minutes of use. It wasn't leaking for the first few days I was using it. I tried replacing the o-ring and tinkering with it but to no avail.

I switched to the iClear 16b that came with my MVP. While it has been suiting me fine, I miss having a tank I can completely disassemble. So.. What is a better recommendation for me? Or have you figured out any other ways to prevent the leak issue with the pt2? Or has rebuilding the coil been successful for you in preventing it? I feel like it might be worth my time more to just upgrade it. Thanks in advance

Happy New Year and congratulations to you, Radialdesign! Did you try putting in new coil? Sometimes inhaling too hard or chain vaping will flood your tank. Your coil can't keep up with the demand you put on it.

I have many PT 2's and find they will flood if I'm late in changing out coils. Also rebuild my coils with 30 Kanthal and cellu cotton to get a better flavor. Perhaps buying and adding a $5.00 airflow adjuster will help as well. I also use the Aspire Nautilus tanks with the BVC (bottom vertical coil) with will give you a fine vape at higher volts/watts although I don't push them very high as I like a cooler vape.

Good luck; and again congrats on a huge accomplishment! Do relax and have fun and patience with it. Everyone has a learning curve, but you've found the right place to help you along.

Thank you for your kind words and assistance! Now that you mention it, one thing I hadn't tried was getting a new coil in there. I had just put in this coil when the leaking started... so perhaps the issue was with the coil and not the tank? I will give that a try. I did love the PT. I'm really interested in an even bigger capacity tank, too.
I've definitely been considering the Nautilus, as it seems to be a quality clearo that doesn't utilize acrylic components. Perhaps since I'm still new, I definitely go through periods where I chain vape (which is great with the MVP, because I eventually reach this bliss period of cloud perfection, hahaha)... I definitely need something that can withstand that amount of heat.

Believe me, radialdesign, I chain vape a lot! Vaping has become my new occupation.

You can clean your coils too to get a bit more life out of them. There are threads here that explain how to. The life of your coils will depend on how much you vape, how high voltage/wattage you vape, the pg/vg composition of your juice and whether it is dark, surgary or light in color. The darker, sweeter, and higher in vg your juice is the less life your coil will have. The higher in vv/vw the more vapor you have the quicker you use up your juice!

So many variables but fun to discover and give it a whirl.

the protank 2 gave me plenty of good vapes but some days it was a real pain in the ........

I still have a Kanger Aero Mega on an MVP as a backup out here... Keep the protank clean, and fresh coils really help... but there are many much better tanks...

Get a nautilus mini, works fine on the MVP... Vapes a little better with more power but it will beat the pants off your protank

Airflow controller on the PT2 will make a big difference - I have them on all of mine.

Love my PT2s! I retired all my EVODs and replace with predominately PT2s with airflow controllers. Check your o-rings. I had one make a desperate leap at an attempt for freedom, but I managed to locate it and re-seat it before disaster struck.

Also, make sure the coil itself is snugly seated in the base. You want everything snug, but not overtightened (you can damage those pesky o-rings). Just the other day, I experienced my first PT2 leak Futzed and futzed with it and finally replaced the coil. I rebuild my own coils and when I took a good look at the one I'd pulled out, I could tell that something had shifted, and there wasn't wick where there was supposed to be.

No more leaking, tho, and that bad boy got torn apart and rebuilt.... To Choochoogranny's point, don't hoover. Slower, gentler draws will be more effective.

Yes, the airflow controllers (AFC) made a difference. I slowly stepped up to the Nautilus though. Much better.

Only tanks I use are the PT2's and I rebuild. 9 wraps of 28ga on a 5/64 will give you 1.6 ohms. I fill with KGD cotton and use just enough to pull it through the coil easily. I recently went to 3/32 bit, still fits and the vapor is pretty damn good. Cut you cotton right at the edge of the base and you'll be in good ship. I'm going to jinx myself but I haven't had a problem since reading the thread below. Oh and it's a big one

And I should have said small tanks, The Rose V2, Taifun and eXpromizer are my go to tanks for the juice volume. You may want to think about a Taifun, Hcigar clone is pretty nice and a walk in the park to build.

A protank 2 is really just 4 pieces and a drip tip. take it apart and inspect each piece. Each piece has a gasket. Coils have a gasket on the bottom also. Don't screw the coil in with base still on the mod or it does not seat totally to the bottom. I have 5 protank 2 and 4 protank mini's and never had a leak in any of them. Mine are all authentic. Never dealt with the clones if yours happen to be.

i used a air flow on a pt2 and it worked ....but i switched to the aspire nautilus and mini with bvc coils and couldent be happier.
no more issues...just works great. coils usually last me a week..

Okay, just one more thing on the PT 2's. With the addition of an Aspire BDC adapter ring (Vapor Kings has them), I can use the BVC NON Nautilus replacement coils (they're shorter than the Nauti's BVC) on the PT 2's with or without the airflow controller. Gives me the same vape as the mini Nauti and another quick option besides rebuilding. It's just a simple ring that screws onto the base or airflow controller to make it high enough to accept the Replacement BVC's. Cheap enough to covert your PT 2's into a Nauti experience.
