Okay quit smoking cold turkey two months ago and turned into a vape addict. Being an excessive I have 3 Kanger Aero Tanks, 4 Protank 2's with the Aerotank airflow valves on them, 3 Iclear 30S tanks, Itaste 134 Full Size, Itaste VTR, MVP 2.0 and an X Gun. Ton of flavors from about 5-6 vape stores I have visited in the Atlanta area.

Pretty happy with my gear and am considering a Kayfun or Russian 91 rebuildable tank purchase this weekend.

Observations and questions:

Most of my current tanks have 2.0-2.2 ohm coils and I typically use my mods in power/watt mode. I see alot of people on the web and in reading cranking the mods up to 8, 10, or more watts and vaping away. I do this on my setups and while I get a denser/bigger fog after one or two repeated hits it seems to dry the wick and I get a metal/mechanical burning taste that is awful. So I dial mine back in at 6.5 to 7 watts and from there I can typically get 4-5 good hits off it before having to wait awhile for the wick to soak more juice or I'll tilt the mod/tank so that the wick can soak up more juice to avoid dry hits. I have tried adjusting the airflow valve to avoid this but it still happens on occaision when I chain vape.

I'm now reading and researching Kayfun/Russian rebuildables. Lots of information. Will these type of tanks keep the wick wetter to avoid the dry hits that I am describing above and can I adjust the wattage up on my mods with less chance of drying out the wick and getting the burned taste?

One last thing, I see the vape charts on the internet and typically with 1.8-2.2 ohm coils it shows that the power should really never be above 8 without risking burning the coil out, burning juice etc. So whats the point in having a mod that is adjustable to 12-15 watts of power or even 20 on the DNA chip mods?

I'm betting a dripper tip would avoid dry hits all together but I just don't feel like holding a mod in one hand a dripper in the other and dealing with it as well as possibly sticky mess.

Input, thoughts, experiences welcomed... Thanks.

1. A lot of the Kanger coils that I have seen lately have a silicon sleeve above the wicks that is a little too long and compresses the wicks which reduces their ability to move liquid through them. Cutting small notches into the silicon sleeve just above the wicks improves the flow of liquid and reduces dry hits and burnt taste.

2. Kayfun/Russians can wick any way you want. Since you control the diameter of the coil and the amount of wicking material you can get it to do pretty much anything you want.

3. Vape charts are written for single coil atomizers. Dual coil atomizers require more wattage and amps to power correctly. A dual coil atomizer with 2.0 ohms of resistance is really two 4.0 ohm coils.

So, your 2 ohm coil needs to vape at 8 watts, but to vape your dual coil setup the same you need to supply 8 watts to both coils, for a total of 16 watts of power.

NICE! (This guy is GOOD).

Yes, I see the rubber cap on the atomizer and it is long and pushes down on the wicks, I understand exactly what you are talking about now with "triming/Notching" it to allow it to wick better. Will try this when I get home from work tonight!

Tomorrow is payday. Was thinking about picking up a Kayfun and a Russian and sounds like with that setup I may be tossing the protank II's (I seem to have much better luck with my Aerotanks anyway).

Got it on the dual coil I believe the aero tanks are dual coil and this may be why I never get dry hits or burning running them at 7 watts. Will try bumping them to 8 see how it vapes! Could be wrong on dual coil but I know it has 2 wicks vs one on the protank II's

Great information and advice I REALLY appreciate it!
