I just made one first attempt, glowed well, without the top tube attached at 2.6 Ohm at 5v, but it seems to me, that I had my 4 wraps 32 nichrome too close to one side and when I pushed the top tube down in place it touched and created a short. I adjusted the coils away from the sides and now it works at least as well as the silica,...We'll see in the long run.

So I rebuilt a head 6 times now. I started with a piece of 400 ss, I heated until red and wrapped it up tight. I then heated until red and then in water x3 then little bit of juice on wick and burned it off x3. I then heated up 43 guage kanthal till red up and down the wire 3 times each way. I wrap my coil tightly around wick and insert into head. One wire between head and rubber gromet, one through rubber piece. Then insert metal (+) pin. I tested on my device once all done 1.9 ohms. Tested and it popped, the hot spot was right where the wire contacts the gromet and inside of head. Anyone know why this is happening

A couple days ago I got a sheet of 500 ss. I originally got it to rebuild an RBA(that I lost one of the post screw on..grr...) and an IGO-L clone that's on it's way from FT. I decided to give it a go on one of myh protanks and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I think theres a noticable improvement in flavor as certain juices taste muted with the protanks compared to other delivery devices. For making them I'm just heating the mesh 2 times before it's rolled and 2 times after. I haven't been burning with water and juice, but perhaps I should.

I don't dry burn them like I do with silica. I found that I would pop the coil more often than not. I do check the ohms on my vamo, and it seems to vary until I start using it. I'm building mine with 4-5 wraps and getting between 1.7 - 2.2 ohms. The wick is hollow and so far no gurling or leaking. No flavor wicks. I'm probably going to add some cotton to the next build and see if that helps the flavor.

On a side note I'm also rebuild a vivi nova using only the 500 ss and the results are great. I much prefer the flavor of them. It's a shame because I really prefer the design and look of the protank.

It's also worth noting, I think, that I'm using 100% VG. Been on a Boba's/Gorilla juice kick lately

Thanks for the input, good stuff!

Glad to see its been done already........with success that is! Just bought my first 2 Kanger BCC's couple of weeks ago and working great. Got the mesh and wire on hand but wanted to try it before I ordered a few of the Ismoka/Vapeonly BCC tanks. Guess I can skip the testing and get some ordered, now that I know they won't flood. :vapor:

I had some short scraps of ss mesh so i decided to rebuild a T3S. Using 400 SS and 32 guage kanthal. I oxidized the mesh, rolled it so it fit snug in the head. Heated and quenched it at least 3 or 4 times with a propane torch. Put some plain VG on it and lit it till it burned off 2 times. I then wrapped the 32g kanthal 5/6 wrap. I had to nudge the coils around a bit to get an even glow. But it was pretty easy. Ended up with 2.2ohms. I was really amazed by the performance. Nothing like the stock wicks or even the silica rebuilds. Great flavor, huge plumes of vapor. I liked it so much, I rebuilt another coil for my protank2 mini with the same results.

2 refills later and still going strong. No leaking or gurgling so far.

Tried doing this about 5 times now. Getting a hot leg each time. I want to make sure the coils glow evenly before putting it in the tank but this causes the hot leg. An above poster says not to dry burn it so maybe I'll add some juice when I'm testing. Other than that, not sure what to do/where to go from here. I oxidized the crap out of the wick and I'm used to doing that since I have a genesis style atty so I'm pretty sure it's not that. I'd love to get this working because I don't like Silica, Ekowool and cotton give me weird side effects. (headaches and chest pain) Stainless mesh would be the perfect solution as I like the flavor it produces and there's no filler material. (cotton, etc)

Hey guys I have done this a few times now on pro tanks and the kanger unitank and am really pleased with the outcome I use 400 as mesh rolled tight about 3mm thick so it has to be really pushed in to the head with 5-6 wraps of 32g kanthal get about 2.5-2.7 ohms I even dry burn both to make sure coils all glowing and had no problems although might be worth noting I start with short 1-2 sec bursts of power till all the coil is glowing then I drop a bit of juice and burn off make sure its producing vapor well I don't use any silica or cotton just ss and so far had no gurgles leaks or bad tastes I cape mainly 50/50 watermelon juice and been running same coil and wick for 2 weeks now with 2 dry burns for cleaning so far and still hits as good as day one
