My cotton wick on the protank worked for 3 days or so. Tonight, I ripped it off and rewick with ss mesh. I did it over 10 times. It always short. Either the mod won't give the reading, or it fired but immediately burn off the coil. I tried making fat wick, then thin wick. Once the thin wick worked, but it always flood. Why my wick/coil always short? I did torch it well. I figured the ss mesh is touching the head housing. What kind of trick you guys do to avoid shorting?

I didnt do anything special. It was my first attempt at it. Havent shorted any of the ones I did. Are you oxidizing it real good. Burn that wick glowing red then quench it at least 3 times. Then then saturate it with e liquid and burn it off a few times. Sounds to me like it isnt oxidized good enough. Watch that guys video on youtube and watch him do it. Thats where I got the idea. I just didnt put the peices of the original wick back in like he did. Everything I did is still hitting like a fog machine at the club. I couldnt be happier.

I did it a month ago and ended up doing the same.. All my evods and protanks are SS Mesh in a 1.3 ohm coil. Hits like a freight train.. Running it on a regulated device at 5V which is around 19Watts.. The wick is keeping up.. Never been this happy with my tanks..

Glad to hear that I am not the only one. I just couldnt believe how well it worked. My standard ohm setups on my VV stuff is rocking. Yours must be just phenominal!!!!!

Yes I did as I did it for my genesis type. Not 3 times, but many more than 3 times. I'll try again tonight. Does your wick fit well on the hole (mount) or it's loose, or tight?

It was snug but didnt have to cram it in. I used a wick that I had made for my Z Atty Pro, because I just like ceramic wicks better. I had to unroll it about a roll and a half because it was too big at first. But I have had no issues what so ever. I posted some pics. Don't know if they will help. Keep me posted. Like to hear if it works for you.

Another night with ss mesh wick on Kanger protank. Not very success. I tried 4 times, with short and hot spot. This time I burned it with torch longer, then burned again after rolled it and coiled it. The short is after I tight it to the mod's body. Playing with tightening/loosening, sometimes I get it to fire a bit, but it burned. The forth time works for me, but I have to wrap the ss mesh with a thin layer of cotton. 1.4ohms, running from 8w to 9w. Bad thing is that it produces very little vape and wick slow. If I keep depressing the button for too long, it'll burn. I quit for the night. Hopefully after a day or so, after the cotton burned off, it'll get better. This will be my last try with ss mesh on bottom coil. It's so hard to get it not to short. Oh, it leaks more than cotton wick.

Another night, another ss mesh wick on protank. Finally I could make it work, o short, no burn, no leak. Well, it leaks little enough to wet the bottom of the protank. Taste is ok, hit hard. In fact it hit too hard that I can't take a long shot. When I do, I am out of breath . There is a problem though, vaping production is bad. Very little vapor, even less than my cotton wick. So I took the head out and put the cotton wick head in. At least I can make it to this point :D
Thanks everyone.

Sorry. I have been on Vacation up north in Arizona. Vaping in the high country. I wish I could figure out why it is not working for you. Mine are still working great. PM me your address. I will make you one and send it to you so you can try it out. I thought I was just Lu my but I have done it to everything and it works great on all of them. If you see it in person you might see what your doing different. Shoot me your address and I will toss one in the mail to you.

I just got into rewicking for the first time. I'm using a Protank and like rnln, I'm having the same issue with my coils. By some miracle, I managed to get one wick and coil to work. It's about 2.5 ohms and I've been using this head for three days with no problems other than slight leaking.

I've tried wrapping another steel mesh wick about 10 times. Every time I'd fire it, the positive lead would pop / break right under the wick. I'm oxidizing the wick 7-8 time, applying juice and burning it off. I'm using 34 AWG kanthal A-1 wire, four wraps gives me about 2.5-2.8 ohms. It's especcialy frustrating since I got one wick and coil to work well, with the coil glowing pretty uniformly / no hot spots.

I can't seem to reproduce this success though. Does this sound like a short? If not, should I try using a thicker wire, 32 AWG maybe? I'm leaning towards a short though. If I managed to get one wick and coil working then I would assume the problem isn't with the gauge of the wire. I'm at a loss, what am I doing wrong?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
