The AW 14500 Protected batteries are not the IMR.
If you are looking for batteries for a Mini they will work.
If you are looking for batteries for a Mini Woodvil there is only one recommended battery. The AW IMR 14500. There is another brand of IMR 14500 that Rob has said will work.

BTW: I've read the Rechargeable Batteries thread like 3 times now... I think I'm JUST NOW starting to wrap my head around everything.

Good for you! It's a tough read because everything in it is important. Are you using the AW IMR's now? The reason I ask is the BDL's are pretty bad, and that might explain your issue. If you are using AW IMR's, and they have been recharged 5 times (takes several charges for the IMR's to get up to full strength), and you are using LR attys, I don't think moving up to the protected AW's will get you much better vaping time. The lower mAh AW IMR's hold a higher voltage longer than non-IMR batteries, even ones with larger mAh (capacity).

Should perform just as well as an IMR... these drain @ about 6 amps... IMR drains @ 20+ amps... but no atty/cart really requires that sort of volume (according to my Darwin, most is ~3 amps[1.5ohm dual coil carto])

Not in the 14500 size:

Max drain rate in amps is C in mAh / 1000 x C rating
Example: an AW IMR Li-Mn 14500 battery has a capacity of 600mAh. The C rating is 8C (it can supply 8 times the capacity). Therefore the max discharge current in amps is:
600 x 8 over 1000 (600 multiplied by 8 divided by 1000)
= 4800 / 1000
= 4.8 amps
This shows it has enough beef to safely and effectively run an atomizer - which some 14500's don't. In other words it is less likely to go into thermal runaway if there is an internal fault in the battery and is then used to power a device that draws a relatively high current such as an atomizer; and it will not suffer from excessive voltage drop when powering the atty.

The AW protected 14500 would be 750 mAh x 1.5 2 C = 1125 1500
1125 1500/1000 = 1.125 1.5 amp

I use the Ultrafire in my Mini as a backup to my AW IMR. I really hate waiting for my poor over used AW to recharge. I only get 5 Watts of power out of me Ultrafires and my AW cooks at 7.5 Watts, which is my sweet spot for the 306LR atty. I really wish the AW's would show up somewhere to buy more, everyone is out of stock. :(

Protected and IMR batteries are in general not the same thing. IMRs are a 'safe' technology that doesn't require protection. I don't use a REO but have converted over from 'protected' to IMR batteries in the mod I use and am happy with the switch. The performance from fully charged to drained is much more consistent with the IMR versus the protected lith-ion batteries which are supposed to come off the charger above their listed voltage and are significantly below it by the time they're effectively drained on an atomizer
