I suppose if you want to, but the threading is cut very well & you shouldn't have any problems with it, especially if you even half way take care of it. Even if you do manage to mess up the threads (which would take some effort & carelessness), it's only $15 to replace the top cap.

Wow. That's cheap, plus shipping that is. The cost of repair seems to negate the purchase of the Hippo, should anything ever go bad with the threading.

When I'm at work (road construction) I carry my Provari in my side pocket, on my carpenter jeans. With bending over, kneeling down and moving tools around, I have ruined about 4 tanks last summer. The tanks get pulled out or brake off in the 510 connection. The threads on the provari are fine. I believe the metal that is used int provari 510 threading is much stronger than the 510 threads on your tanks or what ever else you have.
I bought an itaste vtr for this reason. I believe with the added tank support, it should eliminate the problem. My provari will still be my main PV.

Yup, even with shipping, it's cheaper than a Hippo. If you want the Hippo for air control, by all means, go for it. But if you're just buying it to protect the threading (which, as I mentioned, would take some serious carelessness to damage) you'd be better off without.

I don't see the point either. The Provari top cap is solid SS. Odds are you'll snap or strip the 510 threads on the atty long before you do any damage to the Provari That said, the threads aren't the weak point of the Provari 510... It's the plated brass center pin. An atty with a sharp or rough center pin can wear away the plating and expose the brass underneath. The hippo may help with that...
