While looking at RS to see if they had any 14500 so I didn't have to wait for shipping I came across this one. It is an AA sized battery which will fit, it is rated at 2200 mah, but is 3.6v.

At the expense of a bit of voltage, might this not last a long time in the Protege or am I missing something here?

Tadiran TL-5903 3.6V/2200mAh Lithium "AA" Battery
Tadiran TL-5903 3.6V/2200mAh Lithium "AA" Battery - RadioShack.com

It is expensive, but if it was needed would it work? Is the .1v such a difference?

Sorry if it is a stupid question, but seems relevant.

Probably work ok, but doesn't appear to be rechargeable.

I am concerned about the 2200mAh vs the 900mAh that the Protege is designed to use. This is a big jump which could be a very good thing or a bad thing. Good as it would produce more vapor and bad if the unit was not designed for that much amps.

You are concerned about the wrong thing the more mah is alway better and nothing is designed for a specific mah it is only telling you how long a battery will stay charged

Yeah I checked RS and lithium is all they got li-ion is different cheaper and rechargeable

I would use it if I had it, but wouldn't pay for it

The Lithium batteries you are describing are called primary cells, usually have a much higher mAh rating than the rechargeable. Cost of use is much higher as they are meant to be disposed of once depleted.

The first mod I made was designed to use 2 CR2123 3v batteries, and since I got the mod finished b4 my rechargables arrived I purchased some primary cells. The 2 batteries I bought lasted more than 2 days, well after my rechargables arrived and where charged. Radio shack wouldn't be my first choice to purchase these batteries however.
