The black finish on the XPV seems to be very durable.

The black finish on the Vapor Shark dna gets eaten alive by the XPV when they are pocket pals, which is how they usually roll. :p

I am probably gonna strip the VS dna down to bare metal soon, I think it will look pretty sweet, just gotta figure out how best to do it.

Glad you were able to resolve your own issue Jameth. It is reassuring to know that it can be worked on fairly easy.

Cannot help but wonder if taking your top cap off earlier may have agitated the loose connection. I guess it could be a possibility. Regardless, kudos to you for fixing your own gear and showing us details.

:toast:

That had crossed my mind, but the wires for the switch should have been undisturbed, they are kinda tucked back into the case.

Well I received my blue XPV today.
Came home approx 6-8 hrs after delivery.
Crushed box outside of the building mailbox. If things don't fit in the individual box then they are left where my XPV was.
Anxiously opened to find the box was crushed on the air pillow side. Whew!

First impressions are good. I am glad and thankful that I now have two unique, well designed and well built DNA20 mod.
Working great as expected.
I am glad I picked the black on blue. Nice contrast.
First push of the clicky button, not liking it. I will be patient. All of my Silver Bullets, my Diablo and my first XPV all have smooth action buttons. Those are the only mods for me ever, so we will see.

Some quick and dirty, I will see if I can get sunshine on this blue ASAP.

I think first class postage is a bargain. Not sure about how well they handle packages, in my experience. I have a roadside mailbox, and could share some stories with you!
Good looking! Particularly the contrast with your Nicoticket juice bottle caps.
I'll be interested in seeing if the clicky button smooths out for you. I got the smoothy on mine, for no reason other than not having extraneous noise.

BTW, no further occurrences of spontaneous lock mode. I'll chalk it up to user error for now.

Edit: rant deleted.
Edit 2: shorter rant deleted.

Put it this way, I am not happy that my XPV was left outside when the flat rate priority box fits inside of my mailbox.

The blue is nice. The screws on the bottom of the blue are leveled better. I hadn't even notice it on the black until I sat them side by side and the black has a minimal amount of movement. No big deal since I hadn't even noticed it.

Cannot wait to get this blue in the sunshine. I think it will really pop.

Thank you! Your pictures have convinced me I need to order one of these. :D

Don't get me wrong, I love my Vaporshark, but its 1200 mAh won't quite get me through a full day away from power. I figure the 2900 mAh in a full-size XPV will do that without difficulty.

What I like about the Vaporshark and the XPV is that they're not blingy, they're not 'works of art', they're just tools, and that suits my style. Moreover, a DNA 20 based mod strikes me as the best vaping tool one can buy right now. The everything-at-a-glance display, the smooth power delivery, the straightforward user interface, the ability to push considerably more current, and the built-in charging capability makes them a better overall package than any other regulated mod I'm aware of.

Are they perfect? No. What's missing on these particular mods is the ability to quickly and easily swap in a fully charged battery, but given the choice between on-board charging capability that uses the same ubiquitous chargers and cords as my phones and tablets do, vs. being dependent on a totally separate device to charge batteries, I'll take the built-in, pass-through capability in these devices, thank you very much!

Now I'm sure some of the 'brand P' cultists will say, "But these devices aren't as sturdy as ours, and the warranty is inferior!" Well, the relative sturdiness (or lack thereof) remains to be seen. My Vaporshark certainly doesn't feel fragile, and the XPV's extruded housing doesn't look like it's particularly delicate either. As for the warranty, I don't care. I'm handy enough with a soldering iron that I can fix these devices myself if they break. Given that a whole DNA 20 controller with display costs less than $50 and the part most likely to break (the charging module) costs $7.50, I can afford to stock some spares and be in a position to fix either one immediately without having to ship it somewhere and waiting for someone else to do it. Will 'brand P' sell you spare parts (like a controller board) so you fix it yourself if theirs breaks? ;)

Anyway, I've decided I'm getting a full-size with 2900 mAh battery, all black, low-profile 510, with clip. The only question is which button to go with? Clicky or smooth? Has anyone felt both?

My thoughts exactly!

The XPV is a great unit, and I think the VS DNA compliments it well, they make a great team! :vapor:

Swapping a fully charged battery could be handy I suppose, but I think keeping my mod topped off while in use is more handy for my lifestyle. I think it would be cool to have a mod that could do both.

The DNA20 is the bees-knees for sure, I will only ever buy regulated mods that have EVOLV chips in them, period.

I think a good mech backup to these for the ultimate in ruggedness and vape apocalypse, is a REO Grand, which I plan on getting soon. Once I have that, I will probably be looking for another XPV in a new color, and then sit back for another year or two and see what evolves in the scene, maybe start playing with my room-mates lathe, mill, and drill press that sit in the garage and do nothing...

That is pretty much what happened when I got my Darwin, and a half decent mech mod early on in my vape life, found some toppers I liked, and just stuck to that for a couple years for the most part, and here we are today :vapor:

Wow I really like that blue!

Is the finish on it kind of matte and slightly textured like the black, or is it smooth anodized aluminum?

BTW what are those atty's your using?

Thanks, the longer I look at it the more I like it.

The finish ( other than the color ) is the same as the black.

Those are Phoenix v5 drippers. I actually went to Altsmoke and bought my third this afternoon.

That blue is very nice -- the black accents really set it off nicely. Congrats Mattnati!

I wonder if Protovapor is planning other colors down the road?

Thanks hazozita, I am so glad I did the black on blue.

I hope they do more colors. But not a entire crayola box though.

I have felt both. So far I prefer the smooth action button. But as I said earlier, i have not owned a clicky button mod before.

Well, I take that back. I do have a Altsmoke BB ( that I rarely use) with a clicky.
Still liking the smooth action from protovapor.

Will do.
My XPV was always in my hand, just when firing, and otherwise standing upright on a table. So, though I'm willing to accept possible operator error, I'm not sure of it. That said, it hasn't happened for a couple of days, so it might have been me.

This has happened to me with a few different mods. When chain vaping and pressing the button often, it sometimes is enough presses to lock it or with some mods, turn it off
