I have an XPV on its way, and also needed tanks for it. I ordered a Protank 2, but also an Aspire BDC Vivi Nova Pyrex with the stainless sleeve, which was well rated in several places. Glad to see that the Protank 2 was a good decision. The Aspire is bottom dual coiled, so may hopefully work better than the top coiled unit. We'll see.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to the device and the club!:toast:

Glad to read this, I was going to send you a pm this weekend to see what you had decided. Excellent choice.

As far as pointers go, just remember to keep you foot out of the DNA throttle with those tank choices or else you will be burning through heads like a wildfire.

I was going to let you know that I decided to go ahead with the XPV, a little Christmas present to myself, but I forgot. Shame on me considering your generous time and advice.

And your caution relates to keeping wattage low generally, or because of those specific tanks or something else? Gotta be specific with us young-uns to keep us out of trouble.;)

No worries on the help passed along. It was given to me and I giveth back. Good karma that way.

Yes, my suggestion would be to keep the wattage at 10 or below for those tanks. Now someone can correct me if I am wrong but from what I understand the prebuilt coil/wicks for tanks like these can get wasted quickly if too much power is pushed through them. Not sure which of the lower or higher ohm coils can handle more power because I don't really understand that stuff. Just know that with the XPV/DNA you have a tool that can serve all of you vaping needs now and in the future when you start rebuilding.

Congrats n the XPV, what specs did you go for?

The evod/kanger/vivi coils will start burning insulators really quick with high wattage.

A proper rebuild-able is more protected from that kind of stuff, usually much more heavy duty.

Congrats! Another in the club!

I was really shocked when I randomly stumbled upon this thread too, right when I was about to drop a bunch of money on a Futura. I couldn't believe there wasn't more buzz about this.

I am SO glad I found the XPV, much more suited to my vape life. :vapor:

It is a fantastic mod, absolutely love mine!

thanks for all your advice. Yes, karma is one of the laws of physics, but not often talked about. An action results in an equal reaction. But, not necessarily an opposite one.:toast:

I suspect that at some point I'll get into rebuilding. But, right now I'm just making sure that my hardware and software off the shelf are optimal. Then I'll think about customization. Keep seeing posts on the Nicoticket thread, which I know you've seen, and on the one hand they make the concept (along with your comments to me) intriguing. On the other, lots of bother. I'm still dealing with recharging, cleaning tanks and wicks etc. It's much more time consuming than lighting up and tossing the snuffed out .... in the can. One day!

I ordered black all through, long not mini, low-profile 510, smooth button.
Should arrive right before Christmas, if the PO isn't too bottlenecked.
Best wishes to you.

Thanks for your advice. I'll be careful with the wattage; hate ruining stuff through neglect or ignorance. But, tell me something since I'm fairly new to this world; when you say burning insulators, are you referring to the coil or something else?

I'm pleased with your enthusiasm. You know about buyer's remorse: I put my order in and then thought to myself: what the hell are you doing spending that much on a device. But, I've no doubt from all the comments here and Mattnatti's experience that I've made exactly the right decision.

The insulators are the silicone/rubber/ non conductive material that isolates the one side of the coil from the other, aka the positive and the negative connections.

I understand the initial (pre-received) buyers remorse, especially if this is your first high end $150+ mod, and I had the same when I dumped over $200 into a Darwin pretty early on in my vaping days.

I have bought a lot of random devices through out the 3 years I have been vaping, and in the end, owning a quality device right up front allowed me to really see things for what they were, and owning something with a quality chip like EVOLV makes, is going to make everything else pale in comparison.

In the end the cheaper stuff can do the job, but you really do get what you pay for in the vaping world, and you are about to see just how good it can be, IMHO, especially once you jump to rebuildables :)

You will not regret it, especially if this is your first venture into a real VW device that can actually deliver the power it is claiming to put out!

By the way, with regards to the wattage output on those toppers, even with all that we said, don't be afraid to play with the power, your not going to do any damage to it quickly just finding the sweet spot.

Your sweet spot is unlikely to be anywhere near the point that you will be hitting em with to much.

@jameth, the Darwin is a Evolv product. Did you not like it? What were the pros and cons of it? I have a read a few negative post about it.

Maybe I worded that weirdly, but what I meant to get out of that was that I absolutely loved the Darwin, and it served me well for over 2 years, and during that time many devices came and went into my life, but the Darwin always set the bar, mostly for its electronics. And that I had buyers remorse initially(before I actually got it), because it was my first real expensive mod, but that it taught me the value in a good mod.

So I was trying to give a shoutout to EVOLV stuff and the Darwin :)

The only con to it for me was that as i started using larger and larger tanks and rebuildables, it became less practical because of its swivel 510.

Yup, you got me pegged. It's my first high-end costly device. And, I'm in complete agreement with you about quality, which in fact was a prime driver for my purchase. I'm fairly new to this world. (Wish I'd known about ECF at the beginning!) Started bout 9 months ago with cig-a-likes, though better than gas station ones. But, they didn't do the trick. Got into Halo gear, with their Triton tanks, which although not perfect did provide the vapor and flavor, which in days did do the trick and haven't had a smoke in almost 2 months now. I picked up one of their VV batteries, which opened my eyes yet further. They're good products considering the cost and ease of use for folks new to this stuff.
And now, here I am.

And one more question, regarding rebuildables. If any of you rebuilders know of one good introductory primer (say maybe a video) which gives an overview of what it means and how generically it's done, point me to it.
I'm NOT asking anyone to go find one for me! It's obvious there is lots of info out there on ECF and other places, and I can explore over time. Just if you know of one good overview, let me know.:vapor:

My top "go-to" places for rebuildable tutorials are pbusard's videos (pbusardo - YouTube) and Todd' reviews (Todd ecigreviews - YouTube)

The links are for their YouTube channels. While many of the videos are reviews, most reviews of rebuildables include putting in a new build with loads of tips and tricks.

Most are for a specific device, rather than a generic overview, but the general concepts translate well across the board.

And congrat's on hitting the 2 month smoke free point! Keep it up!
