I ask because i was just talking to a feller about his ProVari, hes got a black chrome one and said the finish started to wear off.. he said it was only a month old and it starting to look sorta like a silver vein finish...

Just wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem and if the warranty would cover it?

Wow that's pretty crazy maybe the way he carries it? My father has had his for about the same and it's holding up great! Im still undecided between the textured that I have or getting another one in black chrome.

I like the textured, I was going to buy one but they stopped making them :(... sucks..

Your the person I sold my satin one to, right?

Yep I've had mine only a few weeks and I have ALOT of tiny silver scratches. I carry it in my pocket most of the time so I guess its to be expected (although I did NOT expect it!). I think I paid extra for the "black chrome" over the "powder coated" so I expected that this would not be an issue. Would be nice if it had some sort of protective costing I guess.

They don't sell the powder black any more -- did it have the same issues?

I'd be VERY careful with the 24k Gold!

Thanks for this info..I think i may change my order to regular chrome now. No sense in waiting 2 weeks for a finish that will scratch off rather easily. Do you think there would a similar issue with the regular chrome?

The "regular" was non-chrome (I guess black but not shiny) and I don't think they sell it anymore. I have no idea if it would have been better or worse so others will have to give their experiences. I don't think you have a choice now though (if you want black)

I have had the regular satin finish one for several months now and barely have any scratches that are noticable on it at all. And I've been pretty rough with that one. The black chrome one that I have has only been sat down on it's end on my desk and coffee table in my living room, so it hasn't been treated rather gingerly thus far.

Its not really "scratched". He said you can't feel it like its starting from inside and coming out if that makes sense. I think I still have pics of it. Ill look and try to post them. He said it has never been in a pocket with keys or anything that it started shortly after he got it. Always left it standing on the end cap.. when not in use..

We have not seen this before and a lot of black units have shipped. We will certainly ask our chrome vendor about it but there would be no reason for it to just disolve, it’s a hard plated coating…

So the one you have you say is doing this? Has it been subjected to keys, coins or anything like that?

Were trying to figure out how a finish would dissolve like that. We want to get to the bottom of this issue and figure out what has caused this.
Thanks.

No I don have it. Was going to buy it but was afraid y'all would no cover it under the warranty... tats why I'm asking, would this be covered under the warranty if there were no keys or anything to cause this? As stated via pm, I don't know how truthful he was being, he was trying to make a sale, ya know....
