I considered asking this in the rebuildable/KFL thread but I think my question is going to be more specific to Provari than it is to the KFL+.

Hopefully I'll be getting my Provari Stealth mini and KFL+ setup in time for the weekend but I had a question when it comes to rebuilding the KFL+. I ordered some 28gauge Kanthal and 2mm Ekowool Silica and I've watched all the videos on how to build the coil and it seems easy enough however I know the Provari is a bit finicky when it comes to lower ohms.

Soo my questions..

What ohm should I be shooting for when building a coil? 1.8?

Roughly, how many wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal would it take to reach it? 8?

If I'm reading this chart correctly, if I build a 1.8 coil, I'd want to be running between 3.00 - 3.70 volts, is that correct?

If so, then that means whatever ohm coil I build, I just need try different voltages within the 'green' area on that chart to find what tastes best for the specific juice I'm vaping - correct?

IMHO that chart is just a suggestion. Although the math is correct in actuality all the variables are not built in. I use a rule of thumb that I found a long time ago on ECF. Get your coil resistance and add 2. That at least gives you a starting place to either increase or decrease your volts according to what is good for you.

That's really personal preference, but if you go 1 ohm, you'll be VERY limited to what voltage it will fire at.
I'm vaping a Russian sporting a 1.2 ohm coil right now, and LOVING it, but most people do wrap a little higher...
If you want a starting target, I'd say 1.6 or 1.7 seems to be a really popular range for Kayfun users...

Appreciate the responses but I don't quite think I'm getting the information I need just yet for me to comprehend. What ohm coil's should I be shooting for to run on the Provari?

I use 28g on everything (except evods) I have one r91% with a .8Ω coil running at 2.9v on one provari and a kfl with a 2Ω coil on another provari and the others are somewhere in between. The .8Ω was originally wrapped for the roller but somehow it ended up on one of the provaris and it's doing fine.

Is there a preferred atomizer to use with the ProVari?

Yes, we recommend using a higher resistance atomizer. This will give you the most voltage options. For Cartomizers we prefer the 3.0ohm and for Atomizers High Voltage 2.8-3.2 ohm work best.

Low Resistance - Low resistance atomizers/cartomizers are not the best to use, they will limit the voltage options that you can go up to. Also note that as a atomizer heats up, their resistance drops. When they get dry the resistance also drops. If you have your voltage set higher and the resistance drops, it will cause the E1,E2 errors.

When using a higher resistance atomizer you will be able to dial up the voltage into the higher ranges and have more room for the atomizer resistance to move around without getting into the limits of the device or driving the atomizer into a very low range or short.

Frequently Asked Questions

I use the Aspire Nautilus and Protank 2 on my Provari with a 1.8 ohm coil with no problem.

I built my Kayfun Lite to 1.7-8 ohms and have the voltage at 3.8-4. I'm using a 28g kanthal I don't remember exactly how many wraps but it was definitely more than 8. Somewhere between 10 and 14 on a micro coil. I wrapped it on a 2mm post, with 100% cotton yarn wick.

I would really like to try using the Kayfun as my all day atomizer, but it seems to really fly through batteries. I'm assuming if I lower the ohms and volts it'll last longer, but I'm curious, those of you who use the kayfun during the work day... What ohms/volts are you running, what battery size, and how many batteries do you go through in a day?

I know it's subjective to how much you vape, just trying to get a ballpark. I tend to chain vape to and from work (about 45 minutes each way), and then either I'm out in the field vaping as much as I want, or stuck inside stealth vaping here and there.

My EHPRO KFL+ has a 1.6 ohm microcoil I am running at 5 volts on a mini v2.5
1 R91 has a 1.7 ohm microcoil I am running at 17 watts on my ZNA. It is firing at 5.4 volts
1 R91 has a 1.9 ohm microcoil I am running at 5.4 volts on a standard v2
1 R91 has a 1.7 ohm microcoil I am running at 5.1 volts on a standard v2.5
My Russian has a 2.1 ohm microcoil I am running at 5.6 volts on a mini v2.5

All are wicked with organic cotton. Considering all of these builds are running at 15 watts or more, battery life is not that great, but flavor is fantastic. All coils are 28 gage kanthal.

I've tried everything from 1.2 to 3.2. I keep 2 KFL's at 2.4, 1 at 2.6 & the other one I play around with a little bit, but usually in the low to mid 2's. I also prefer twisted 32g coils.

It's all your personal preference. Ask 10 people & you'll get 12 different answers.

I have to agree with this as far as asking 10 people....getting 10 answers.

I normally run 1.1 to 1.2 and if I accidentally make a 1.5 or so, I re coild. I use 28 on a 5/64 drill bit. We are all so different.
I dont like waiting on heating up a higher ohm coil and I liike quick powerfull bursts of Vape. I think the battery lasts longer with the lower ohm. Who knows...... Good luck OP.

There are many variables you have to plug in. Target ohms, wire gauge, and coil diameter. There is a smartphone app called Vaper's Toolbox that will do the calculations for you.

In your case we need to know what diameter you plan to wrap your coil around.

A 1.8 ohm coil would take 9 wraps using 28 gauge on a 3/32. Add a wrap for 5/64 or take off a wrap for 7/64. I use organic cotton for the wick as I find silica does not wick quick enough to keep up with me on a KFL+. YMMV
