5.5v across a 1.8 ohm coil won't fire on any Provari. That's almost 17w. You'll hit the power limit at 2.09 ohms. Some may fire a little below that, but not at 1.8ohms. At 5.1v you can go down to 1.79 ohms before hitting the power limit.

ETA: So your Provari is acting normally. For a 1.8 ohm coil you should be able to push 5.1v reliably, some devices *might* handle 5.2v.

Don't know about you, but I'm able to do it. Then again, the 1.8bvcs read at about 1.9 to 2.0 ohms on the provari

Ya, I'm finding out that the BVCs are all over the place with ohms and why some peeps are able to crank the volts a bit more. So I'm sure at least one of my BVC replacements will read above 1.8. So far, mine have been around 1.7.

and this explains why I was confused how some were able to go above 5.1 on the ProVari with these BVCs. Didn't realize there was that much of a variance on the ohms with these things. No biggie tho, cuz they've been working really well.

I'm talking measured ohms. I don't really care what it says on the package. I can put a Lamborghini sticker on my Subaru, it's not going to go any faster.

Every Provari is going to be different. Electronic components are all built with tolerances in mind. If every component in a device is on the high end of the tolerance, or on the low end of the tolerance, those 2 builds are going to react differently. One might just fire at Provari's specs, the other might be able to push just a little further. Neither is going to have enough swing in tolerance to push 17w though. Provari's stated power limit is 14.5w, but those tolerances could get you an extra half watt or so.

Hello everyone. I am looking for some good advice, and hopefully not opening a can of worms.....

I am a Reonaut. Two Grands for at work, three Woodvil for out and about, and two VV Grand for relaxing at home. And I love them all...
But let's face it; anything manmade will fail/ break eventually. The VV Grand is no longer in production. I've had one VV Grand almost two years, and the other well over a year. There will eventually come a day when I will need a quality VV Device for relaxing at home.
So I've begun looking into ProVari for this reason. I have several friends on the ECF who swear by theirs.
I found this thread, and have read the posts. The Aspire Nautilus and the Beyond Vape Silo were mentioned, and duly noted.
If I may ask the same question as the OP, only a few small differences;
1) Quality is more important than Price.
2) Easy to setup, use and maintain preferred.
3) RBA's are not a problem. Been vaping exclusively on Hornets and RM2's for some time now...
4) Would prefer something that holds 4- 6 ml of liquid, and refills easily.
5) I vape NET's and Sweets/ Bakery. Do not vape Mints or Cinnamon. Pyrex (?) might not be problem.
6) Aesthetic appearance, something that is same diameter as a ProVari and looks good on top (even if it means a beauty ring)

Any assistance in this matter would truly be appreciated, thanks.

Another vote for the KFL. I have 4 of them from Svoemesto. If you buy them from Germany, you can usually get them cheaper & faster, even with the shipping cost included. For an RBA, they're about as close to flavor production as dripping/squonking as you'll find out there. Their only downside is the same as any vacuum tank - extreme elevation changes can cause them to leak, such as flying in an airplane or driving in the mountains.

ByLeo makes some fine looking stuff, but I don't mess with ceramic cup or NR-R builds.

I have the worst luck with kayfuns. I have an authentic and I can never build it just perfectly. I have a Big Dripper and a pontus that i'm trying to find a solid build for, but neither of those is a great performer at 20 watts. I'm building for the P3, so 20 watts and less. How many watts can you guys crank out of those BVC coils? I like the looks of that Silo though, I may have to look into that

I'm not sure why you're trying to crank out watts. Kayfuns and similar rta's are not made for high wattage. They put out great flavor just above 1 ohm and around 10-12 watts.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose, I just want it to be able to handle at least 15 with high vg juice

Brick, how do you build your kayfun? Maybe I can help. I've tested the new BVC aspire coils at 15w with 50\50 juice and they wick beautifully.

Thanks for the reply Kenny. As of right now, I have a 2.1 ohm microcoil with 13 or 14 wraps of 28 gauge, wrapped around a 2.5mm bit. I use japanese cotton (koh gen do specifically), and on my friends advice, use a fair amount. I fluff the tails, and trim them so they are just touching the juice deck. Not blocking the channels or anything, sort of just pushed up against the sides after juicing the wick. It does really good at 12 or 13 watts, but in preparation for the P3, I'm trying to find a good tank that can handle up to 20 watts.

It's an authentic Svoemesto kayfun with the DX top fill kit and I got the glass kit from them too. I replaced that glass with a better one, can't recall the website I bought it from, but it's smoked pyrex, not quartz. It really does look nice, and with my driptipdesignz drip tip, the whole thing is worth more than a brand new Provari v2.5. It's a shame for something so luxurious not to meet my needs, but at this point I've sort of accepted the 12 watt range, although my friend can do his at 17-18 and he's building almost exactly like I am. I think he has elf powers...

Tanks just aren't really capable of maintaining a high wattage vape. You can take a hit or two but you can't sit around and chain vape it.

Well since the Silo isn't really available right now, I grabbed a nautilus and some BVC coils. Very nice. I have it at 16 watts and it's quite a pleasure. Nice smooth vape, great flavor, decent amount of vapor and great capacity too. I ordered the steel/glass hybrid tank for it. Had some gurgling at first, but I'm pretty sure I didn't have the base screwed in tight enough. I took it apart, dried out the base and chimney tube, put it back together tighter than I had it before and it works like a charm. Hopefully the Silo won't disappoint, although I don't see how it could.
