And Hugh, thanks for the timely reminder that cotton is not cleanest, most hygienic thing on the planet. I'm pretty sure that as the raw cotton gets processed to become these cotton pads and balls, that much of the chemical death is either bleached or washed off in one way or another. I guess we can never be too sure of what leftovers there may be.
Yeah I had my own timely reminder the other day, when driving by one of the many little crop spraying airfields around here, and noticing that the guys tanking up the sprayers were literally in full bio-warfare hazmat suits, respirators, hoods, full body suits, the works. Hmmm, I thought.
As for anything marked as "100% organic", as a friend of mine observed recently, "well dog crap is 100% organic, but you probably wouldn't want to smoke it".
Basically, I don't trust any labeling claims. The sterile cotton I currently use comes from a friend who works as an OR nurse. It's the truly sterile stuff they pack wounds with. I haven't tried Japanese cotton yet, but I have some on order, and I suspect I'll be boiling that. "Organic" doesn't mean "inhalation safe".
On a related note, the reason I'm here bumping up my post count is I've decided I'm going to start making my own liquids, so need to be able to post over in the DIY forums. I've decided I just don't trust anyone else, for stuff I'm sucking in to my lungs. I spent too long smoking, and it's time I took a very different approach! I've been vaping for 18 months now, and feel confident enough i can create my own decent liquids.
