Head, you mind sharing a chair recipe? I've tried with TFA flavors, and they all end up P.U. I'd LOVE a good chai, but haven't had any luck...
Wellll, I can tell you how I do it, which isn't a precise recipe. I don't think I've ever made it exactly the same twice, but I've never made one I didn't like. Like real chai, you use what you want and have on hand... so I've tried to write it so you can modify everything to suit yourself, yet won't end up with horror-broth.
1. My base is FA Black Tea or TFA Green Tea, depending what flavor I want. Make it half-strength. I use about 1% (I'd vape either of Black or Green standalone at 2%). First time you try this, start with a small bottle. Shake it and set it aside.
2. Label a tiny bottle (3ml dropper is my choice) "Chai Flavoring". Just skip any of these flavors you don't want or have. Use flavors you like in actual chai. You might start with equal quantities of each, or if you really like a particular flavor, use 2-3 times as much of that one. I start with maybe 5 drops of each, then a few more of ginger and cinnamon. Everything is optional!
anise: FA Anise OR TFA Absinthe
cardamom: FA Cardamom, which is perfect
cinnamon: FA Cinnamon Ceylon OR TFA Cinnamon Spice OR TFA Horchata base (which has some clove in it)
ginger: Nature's Flavors Ginger (which is quite sweet) OR Flavor West Ginger (less sweet)
clove: TFA Pumpkin Spice (mostly clove, but has a some cinnamon and maybe nutmeg)
nutmeg: TFA Holiday Spice
3. Dilute your "Chai Flavoring" bottle to half-strength with your base or distilled water. Shake it, smell it, get a tiny drop to lick off your finger (you diluted it so it wouldn't knock you over). Add extra drops of any spices you want more of. When it's about right (don't be too picky), continue.
4. Now flavor your tea from step 1. Add about 2% of your Chai Flavoring to start with. Shake it, smell it, try a drop on your finger, add more chai flavoring until it's the right balance of tea and spices for you.
5. Last, add cream and sweeteners if you want them
sweet: FA Honey and and/or TFA Brown Sugar Extra work great in chai, either one or both. Start super low, just 1 drop per every few ml, max. Avoid EM, which mutilates spice flavors. I think Sucralose makes chai taste horrible, but if you sweetness with no honey or brown sugar flavor, it sure beats EM. FA Marzipan can be used, too - same rate to start with.
cream: FA Fresh Cream is ideal. I like chai creamy and add up to 1 drop per 2ml.
vanilla: your favorite one, whatever it is, would be added now. FA Vanilla Classic, drop per 3ml works fine
- OR - : For creamy, sweet, vanilla chai, skip other vanilla and cream flavors and JUST use FA Vienna Cream, about 1 drop per 5ml to start with
6. Mix it, shake it, give it bath, and shake it again. Should be pretty great, but add more cream or sweeteners if you want.
You end up with Chai to vape, and a little bottle of Chai Flavoring to start with for next time. You can "doctor" that flavoring bottle any way you want for next time, or start from scratch.
I hope this doesn't come off as too complicated, but everyone likes a different chai, and this should cover most of them.
