So Im watchin Squidoode's Fused Clapton tutorial, and while listing the items needed for the build, he refers to some "Anarchist Wire..." the "purest form" of Nichrome there is.

First off, I realize I dont have to use the exact wire gauges / materials he does; however, if I do not want to buy wire sold by one of his vaping buddies (which is what Anarchist Wire is) Id like to buy it from Temco... which WILL be buttock-loads cheaper.

So, I know what NiCr-80 / 40 / 20 is... but what the H-E is "the purest form" of NiCr??

as in, is that just a marketing gimmick?.. is it really just NiCr-40, or 20, or what??

I mean, when elec. engineers are detailing specs. for a design, I am almost positive that they dont call for "Anarchist Wire...." (which has a Punk-Rocker chuckin' a malayov cocktail on the package :D ).

Marketing gimmick. Get NiChrome 80 and you're golden.

whats weird about that assertion is this.

In the vid, he calls for 2 wire types. Some 36 AWG NiCr80 (from his other buddy Twisted Messes), and then the Anarchist.

If he calls for one wire to be nicr80, but then calls for anarchist, (the purest in the universe), that made me assume they arent same .

Either way, various gauges of nicr80 are on my shopping list, so I'm buyin that regardless...

thanks for your reply mate :D

Yeah, unfortunately I don't buy it and I would never pay that much for wire anyways lol. Good luck, post photo's when you're done!

Nothing against the guy for "Anarchist Wire" - but IMO it's probably rebranded N80 (nichrome 80 wire) that may have been annealed further beyond the original manufacturers doing. Annealing is a heat treating process that makes metal softer by heating it beyond its crystallization point and allowing it to cool at room temperature (slow). If it were any more pure than N80 - then it would or SHOULD be labeled N90 or just plain nickel. Since nichrome (according to various manufacturers) is supposed to me 80% nickel and 20% chromium.

As far as fused claptons are concerned - I just built a fused Clapton the other day with 24 / 36AWG N80... it runs great an a mere 2.25V

And according to his packaging - AN80 - I'm sure the A stands for Annealed or Anarchist. But look at the finer line - N80 - Nichrome-80 (or grade 80) - see above for the 80/20 alloy mix.

Just wondering how nichrome could be pure in any sense. Nichrome stands for nickel chromium alloy and the numbers are the alloying ratio, it is not a "pure" material scientifically speaking, that you knew. For ultra purification of metals, the maximum could never be 100% residue metal or carbon free. And imagine the cost of electrolytic purification over and over again, not too logical. Definitely a gimmick.

honestly, the only reason people use anarchist wire, twisted messes wire, royal wires, hotwires, etc. is to get sponsored by that company as builder/cloud chaser/trickster and get free stuff.

i have a buttload of nichrome80 from temco, lightning vapes, anarchist and twisted messes and they all perform exactly the same. its all about the build you do, wicking and what equipment you're running it on.

cheers!

Does temco carry nichrome80? (They didn't before....) Lightningvapes is a good supplier, though.

+1 for Lightening Vapes.

I have bought all kinds of Wire from them off e-Bay. The Ship Lighten Fast (pun intended). And there Prices are Dirt Cheap.

Never have had an Issue with anything I have gotten from them.

Here's my view of it...

Its called NiCr... Nickel-Chromium... So "pure" NiCr would be an alloy containing nothing but Nickel and Chromium (whatever the ratio). Ni_Cr (according to Wikipedia or other explanations) is an alloy that contains Nickel and Chromium BUT... may also contain Iron and other metals (the "other" metals I cannot remember offhand... but I think Tin was one, including one or more in that list of metals added to Ni-Cr).

So if someone is selling a "pure" form of Ni-Cr, then it does not have any Iron, or Tin or anything else.

I actually explained this above... so I suspect you might not have read the whole thread... don't fret though, I'm guilty of doing that as well :D

Yeah they're probably referring to that but it's no point in making a pure 20.0000% + 80.0000%, it has no practical use after all, and unnecessarily costly I'd guess

I've read your post tho.
