Swap a different battery into the suspect mod. If the replacement battery dies in a short amount of time, it's the mod at fault. If it holds its charge, it's the other battery.

Umm.. it's an iStick30. It's got an internal fixed battery.

I've checked it each day since I turned it off, and it doesn't seem to lose charge when it's turned off, only when it sits idle while turned on. So I won't trash it just yet; it may still be useful for occasional use.

OT- what's more to like about the CF4's than I30's?

I'd say the vent holes primarily. Other than that, I like the size and feel of the CF4 better, and it's 40w instead of 30w, but that's kinda irrelevant since I vape at 9w. Mainly the good venting of the CF4, plus Innokin's quality rep.

Bad battery and/or quiescent current - quiescent current is something that all mods have, some more than others and unless the mod is off is a process that happens in the background so the mod will fire instantly as the button is pushed.

Try charging and 5 clicking the mod off - see if it drains as much after a few days.
If it does drain then in the bin it goes - Istick 30's are pretty much disposable because of the fixed battery anyway.

Umm.. isn't that what I just said? That since I turned it off, I've been checking it each day and it's apparently not draining as it was when I left it on, so I don't think I'll trash/recycle it just yet.

Umm...
I think you answered your own question then.

Yep, but that thing about "quiescent current"... not sure, I think I kinda sorta maybe almost knew that -- they always tell you to turn off appliances like microwaves and whatnot, to save money on the electrical bill -- but it was a shock to see it in action, and happening so fast, since it doesn't happen that rapidly with any of my other mods. Thanks for making that clear to me; I would guess that this particular iStick just has a more hyperactive quiescent current than other mods.

Haha, sorry. Istick30 is clearly not a mod which I'm intimately familiar with. Last fixed battery mod I owned was the 11watt mvp. I wrongly assumed the '30 was a single 18650 mod.

Nevermind me... However this could be a good time to mention that mods with removable batteries can be better, imo. Easier to troubleshoot, and you don't necessarily have to scrap the mod when the cell inside begins to act-a-fool. Not saying it's the internal battery at fault here, as it jist as easily could be the mod itself. Either way, whatever works for ya. ;)

Yeah I've got a couple of Zmax's, a couple of mechs, and a vamo... but IMR batteries just don't last as long as LiPos -- with my 2000mah coolfire IV's, (or even the iSticks, at 2200mAh) I get a full 14-16 hr day; with my IMRs (also 2000mAh), most I ever got was about 6 hrs. Once I saw how much longer these LiPos last, I was SOLD. :D that's why I'll probably get a Disrupter at some point, swappable LiPos, even if they are proprietary, Innokin's quality makes it worthwhile.

Andria, my wife loved her isticks and CF4 until I got the IPV D2. it's just about as small as the CF4 but has changeable cells. Maybe look at one of those when replacement time comes. She doesn't read here so I can tell you she has an IPV under the tree as we speak!

As for the Istick issue, mine did the same thing before a year was out, I'll never get another, but it was good for what it was.

I determined that it was actually losing charge even when turned off -- so it's basically just defunct and in need of recycling. Just got a new Kbox Mini to replace it, which uses external batteries -- better for vapocalypse prep. :D Just ordered a couple of 25Rs for it, since my old Efests are apparently not suitable; they work well enough to let me determine that the mod is good, not a DOA, so that's fine. :thumb:

I actually find the kbox mini just a bit too small, and since I do want more box mods that use external batteries, I'm looking around to see what next to add to my "stable."
