I need to find away to get more throat hit from a liquid I love, it only comes in 50/50. Right now I am running a Protank 2 and MVP V1 with 2.2 ohm heads. Would changing my hardware help any as I decrease my nic levels to bump up throat hit. I usually prefer bottom feed over top feed for the cooler vape. Seems if I turn the voltage up on my current set up I start getting a burnt taste and flavor loss around 4.2V.

Thanks,
Adam

If you want more TH with the same juice then go for a dual coil tank and if I remember bottom feeder tanks had less TH. From my experience when I used a Protank 1 which is the same coiol as the 2, I couldn't turn up voltage or it would burn, when I use to use tanks IMO the best performing tank was just and iclear 16 or iclear 30. I tried vivi novas, protanks, nautilus tanks, cartomizers.....and I got the best TH with that, but flavor isn't as good as pyrex tanks but coils lasted me a lot longer. Just can't use cinnamon or citrus flavors.

I found that a kayfun provides so much throat hit, I had to go from 85% PG down to 75% PG just to be able to stand it without having an asthma attack. My own "kayfuns" are actually clones, from Tobeco, Kayfun Lite Plus with 2mm custom airflow (it came that way), but I think all the different "kayfuns" have this feature, providing outstanding throat hit. Partly it depends on how you mount the coil in it, too; higher up, TH is best. Closer to the air hole, I hear, provides better flavor.

Drippers also provide outstanding TH, so much that I had to experiment with quite a few different coil builds before I found one I could stand.

I agree that the easiest way to increase the throat hit is to increase the nicotine concentration of the e-liquid.

A PV that uses the 33.3 Hz PWM chip (includes the vast majority of Chinese regulated mods) will also provide a harsher vape, as opposed to the 800 Hz chip and smoother vape of a Provari, iTaste MVP, iTaste VV3, or a DNA mod.

Am I the only one who found a tremendous throat hit with a Kayfun?? I was vaping 85% PG very happily in my T3S's and Mini PT IIs and pretty much everything else... but in a kayfun, that much PG just about killed me, the TH was so intense. I can get awesome TH from a kayfun with 50PG/50VG !

I get too much throat hit above 15 watts on my kayfuns. On my KF's, my "happy spot" is around 12.5-13 watts @ 1.5 ohm with most juices. I'm sure the nic strength plays a role in this too because I can really crank up the wattage with a dripper at a lower nic strength. Maybe it's time to step down on the nic in my kayfuns?

Nope same here, i had to lower from 18mg to 12mg to be able to use kayfun properly. However im always using 50/50 blends, so can't comment on the PG part. :)

Nope. I agree, but they depend on the build and how far the coil is from the airflow. I love rebuildables for the ability to customize your vape, but just in case the OP isn't up for rebuilding there are non rebuilding options better then a Protank 2.

OP - Try a dual coil tank, like the Protank 3, Aspire Nautilus, etc... I here the Mini Aspire Nautilus coils are great. If you want to try rebuilding, a Kayfun is one of the easiest to do, and they will save you some money in the long run. May cost more up front, as you'll need to buy an ohm meter to check the resistance (MVP should be 1.3 or higher), kanthal and cotton. Once you do that though, a spool of Kanthal and a bag of cotton can last quite a long time.

I dunno... if it bothers you, maybe? I rarely go over 9w, and usually stay about 7.5w-8.5w. My usual nic level is pretty low, usually between 7 and 10mg, at 7.5w-8.5w, and I'm still getting really terrific TH. That's why I think the significant factor is the KFL+ itself.

I use 12mg in my KF's and 6mg in my drippers. I can run twice the wattage with less throat hit. If I try 12mg in a dripper I get horribly strong throat hit but a nice buzz. :)

I found the TH from my caterpillar almost more than I could deal with; I had to make about 5 or 6 diff coils for it before I found one I could stand. It's 1.8Ω, I think the diameter is either 7/64 or 1/8, and the wraps aren't compressed, they're very open, and I make sure to put the cap on it so the one air hole I leave open is *right* in front of the coil. But I still can't use it too soon after waking, the TH is so intense. But yeah I always try to stick with 6mg in it, unless I'm just tasting some new juice. I don't like the head-spins, it's too easy for them to morph straight into nausea (fate worse than death!).

Appreciate all the great advice and suggestions. Like always this is the most helpful forum out there. I like the idea of rebuildables but budget is a problem and the fiddling with it stops me from getting into it. Funny thing is about 2 hours after my initial post my Protank 2 decided to just cease working. Never had a problem with it before, was switching it from my MVP to eGo twist and it just stopped any and all air flow. I think the threads on the base somehow messed up where the coil head screws in, now when I take it apart the head seems to not stay attached to the base and is just sitting inside the tank. Probably going to look for a Natalius mini with the new coils, reading a lot of great things on it.

Heh... funny you mention that about not having time to fiddle, and then your PT demands some fiddling.

I always found those small tanks to demand 4 or 5 times as much fiddling as my kayfuns. With the kayfuns, I build a coil; wick it; reassemble and fill, and then... no fiddling. Ever. No leaking. Ever. And with rayon... no dry hits. Ever. An end to fiddling! Hallelujah! :D

Andria

PS: the kayfun clone I like best is the Tobeco KFL+ w/2mm custom airflow, $29.95 -- so not expensive, either!

Lol Andria, you have a point. Maybe one day I will give rebuildables a shot. I did however pick up a Nautilus Mini at a local B&M about an hour ago. Seems to have solved my initial problem, I am getting more throat hit without the really warm vapor of top coils. I accredit most of that to the adjustable air flow though. So far so good, we shall see.

I know your question is in relation to your PV helping with more throat hit, but speaking from a DIY point of view I have a tip for you. Try adding about 3 drops of vodka to a 15ml bottle of the juice you are using. This won't thin it out much more, but will give you back the throat hit you are losing by dropping your nic. PGA (pure grain alcohol, or just vodka) is a very common ingredient in the DIY realm.

My first reach out from the small kanger tanks was a full-size nautilus, but didn't like it at all; to me all dual-coils are much too hot, even dual-coil cartos. After that I got my first kfl+ clone, and just fell in love. I still use my Mini PT IIs, love the small size and glass, but I re-wicked the coils (which are actually coils I rebuilt) with rayon, and the taste is just superb. Also my ARO Pyrex, rewicked with rayon, and now get superb taste from it too, and since it's pyrex, I can keep my pineapple in it all the time. I'm soon going to try out one of these new SmokTech RBSTs, supposed to be a "better kayfun" or some such; it's glass, top-fill, sliding airflow control band, and it costs less, so definitely worth a try!
