I've manually searched the cart mods threads for instructions on using PTB in cartomizers...to no avail. I'm relatively new to vaping and have a ton of empty KR808 carts (from V4L if it matters) and love the idea of getting extra mileage out of them. As I understand it, the re-use value of whatever material comes packed in those carts is quite limited...refill 3 or 4 times and throw it out.

Even as inexperienced as I am, I can already hear the verbal beatings coming about my choice of amatuer gear. The KR808 suits me because of it's simplicity and I've already made the investment and plan to get a little more return before I evolve towards something more sophisticated.

I would be very grateful if someone would simply point me in the right direction for a PTB mod (or other equally simple and effective mod) suited for the KR808. If, as a result of the design of the cartomizer, it can't be modded to extend the life of the cart and enhance the flavor/function of the juice, I guess I'll just have to accept that and consider it when choosing my next PV.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

well first off.....A cart is short for cartridge not a cartomizer. Carto is short for cartomizer. A cart or cartridge is what you use on something like a joye 510( or anything that has a separate atomizer) not a kR808d-1 like you have. A cart is use when the atomizer is separate. a carto or cartomizer is a cart and atomizer(or atty for short) all in one unit. Like what you have on your vapor king(KR808d-1)

Now that we have the technical jargon out of the way LOL........The only mod I have seen for a cartomizer(AKA carto) is where people pull the polly fill out and use it like and atty and drip with it. Dont even bother with this IMO, I have never had success with it. It is nothing like dripping with a 510/306/801/901 atty. But if you want to try it with a junk carto here is a video.
YouTube - ‪Cheap atomizers for dripping (Cartomizer Mod)‬‏

As far as how much life you can get out of a carto, its gonna vary but you should be able to refill them at least 5 times. And I have had ones that I have refilled 15 or 20 times and the taste and vapor is still great. It is hit and miss on the life of a carto. Just like its hit and miss on the life of an atty(I have hard 2 go bad on me in the same day on an Ego before). But it depends on what juice you are using and what the ratio of PG to VG is. In my experience at 100% or heavy VG blend will gunk up cartos somewhat fast. But that can be boiled and cleaned and used again. I have had cartos that I have refilled 10 times, then they got gunked up and had bad draw and flavor and vapor, then cleaned them(by boiling) then refilled them another 10 times, and so on and son on. And gotten 50 or 60 refills out of one carto. NOW this is taking it a bit far LOL becasue a carto is only like $1.50 at some point just throw them away and get a new one lol. But here is a good video on cleaning them by boiling. He lets them air dry, I put mine in the oven at 150 to dry. But either way will work some people even throw them in a sock and put them in the dryer lol.

P.S. no one on here will look down on you for a KR808d-1 as your PV. Thats a great PV. Short of a mod I think a KR808 and a joey 510 are the best you can get IMO!

HAPPY VAPING and hope this helped :)

They make dual coil cartos for kr808 8)

Ya but I think he just has a standard KR808d-1 battery(vapor king). I have not seen a dual coil carto that was not LR(like 1.5 ohm) an most will say only use on a mod that the switch can handle 2 amps. Which I dont think a standard KR808d-1 will handle. They are manly made for 5 or 6 volt mods IMO. Maybe I'm wrong but I would not feel comfortable putting a dual coil on a standard KR808 battery. But hey thats just me, I have a feeling I would smoke a battery in about 2 hours LOL

Thanks for the awesome reply. I was not aware of the distinction between the two abbreviations cart and carto. Now that I am, I will be more clear in the future. I suppose the good news is that I have about 50 cartos that didn't suck enough to throw out. If I get just a few refills out of each, then I should be good for another year. By then, maybe I will be sold on a 3-piece design...who knows? Thanks again...this exactly the information I was hoping for.

Going to a 3 piece design is a BIG step down from what you are doing now IMO(and im sure almost everyone opinion on the ECF). Most people who have a 3 piece PV(like a joey 510 or 901 for example) dont use it as a 3 piece design. They either do one of two things. 1) they throw away the cart(cartridge) and put a drip tip on the atomizer and just drip with their device. OR 2) get rid of the atomizer and cart system all together and just buy cartomizers (carto's) for their Joye 510 making it into a 2 piece device. So like I said, I think you would be disappointed if you went with a 3 piece and used an atty with a cart. CARTS SUCK IMO and are VERY inconstant at best. Although there are MANY mods out there for carts like the Tea bag and others. There are so many mods becasue no one is happy with carts LOL

I'll admit that I'm still a little new to vaping, but I'm a quick learner ;)

I've got a KR8 system and have been using the same cartos for the past month. I just found the PTB method a few days ago and adapted it to some of my more "worn-out" cartos - AMAZINGLY AWESOME, BTW!!!

First off, what I'm finding is happening to the them to "wear-out" is that the polyfill around the wick in the ATTY gets burned and loses contact with the ATTY/wick, resulting in very poor wicking from the filler - along with the persistent burnt taste.

Figured I'd give a step-by-step (will probably work with any similar carto)
I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING WITH AN AUTO-BATT until you do your own testing and find the right amount to use
----------------
1. Remove endcap plug
2. Use suitable tool to GENTLY remove filler material. I use a stripped twist-tie with a crook at the end and slip it down betwen the casing and filler, twist it a little to grab the filler and gently pull it out. I leave the center tube in, but I'm not sure that's even necessary with how the PTB installs...
3. Inspect and clean carto of as much remaining filler as possible and take this time to insure you have a horizontal ATTY and that it's centered over the hole. I found the vertical type don't work very well in general anyway and just toss them.
4. Take a PTB, remove the string, empty the tea and pull all the seams apart to get a nice 2x4 inch sheet (approx). Holes or small tears don't seem to matter, but you can use scissors to cut the seams off if you desire.
5. Fold lengthwise (to make it 1x4) and roll it into a tube as tight as possible.

-At this point, there's several different ways of installing it-
I've been putting it so the folded end is away from the ATTY. As-is, it's going to be a little too long if you're using a rubber endcap. So...
6a. cut or fray the non-folded end and insert toward ATTY
-or-
6b. trim a couple mm's off the non-folded end and insert
-or-
6c. leave as-is, insert and mash it down with a rubber cap (I don't recommend this) or use a hard cap if you have them.

--Side not on insertion--
The inside from a cheap ballpoint clicker-pen can be used as a roller-upper for the PTB. And then you can use the ballpoint tip as a guide to prevent the frayed ends from getting caught on the center tube of the carto. And try let it unroll a little to get more space between the layers, if possible.
7. Fill 'er up! Normal fill methods all seem to work well. I'm only using approx 15-20 drops since I'm still using an auto batt and still in the experimentation stage. But so far, leakage doesn't seem to be an issue at all.

This material doesn't seem to "fill" the carto as much as the poly, but it holds the liquid in place very well. I'm almost thinking one PTB isn't quite enough, but it seems to be working well so far. Some will claim it's resistant to burning - this may be true to a point, but it WILL melt if overheated! I found that out when I tried it with a vertical ATTY carto - I didn't get a bad burning taste, it just stopped working well and removing the material showed a hole melted where it was near the atty.

I'm going to try one without the center tube and report back :D
I'll try to upload some pics if anyone's interested.

EDIT: One other note - Because it lets the liquid flow so well, I've found that the liquid may leak a little if the carto is dropped or severely jostled. So make sure to use the condom-caps if you're traveling with them ;)

EDIT2: Just tried one w/o the center tube (I shoulda took pics, d'oh!) - seems to work just fine as long as you don't flood it, lol! I put in 23 drops and that was TOO much! Start with 10-15. Then do the "blow-out" method to clear the hole. It doesn't sound like very much fluid, but it's the next best thing to dripping w/o the hassle of refilling so often, IMO. Oh, and 10-15 seems to alleviate any leaking issues, but I still DO NOT RECOMMEND USING WITH AN AUTO-BATT until you find the "sweet spot."

EDIT3: Leave the tube in...

Thanks, have been looking for something like this for a while, will try :).

Any chance you could explain the insertion a bit better or take some pictures of how the PTB goes in around the atty?

thanks :)
