I'm pretty sure I've read some threads where some people say that the VG will cause your atomizer to gunk up quicker than PG will. Not sure if that is true or not because I have yet to try VG juice.

This very well may be right. My atty's clogged when I first started vaping and was trying VG. As the total newbie, though, there were a lot of other mistakes I was making. I'm getting the idea that a lot of newbies are not very good at diagnosing their problems. At least I haven't been :)

You have helped. I will only try VG on atty's that are on their last leg.

Some quick notes on alcohol for anyone who is interested. I have used many types of alcohol (and acetone) for cleaning many thing over the years and I'm quite familiar with them.

Ethanol (aka ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol) is the drinking kind. The purest form is 190 proof pure grain alcohol (PGA) sold under the name Everclear. Vodka at 100 proof is 50% ethanol and 50% water. It is quite adequate for cleaning if you can't get PGA.

Isopropanol (aka isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol) is not for drinking. It will make you very sick if you drink it, but is not as toxic as some people think. It can be used for cleaning if you dry the atomizer thoroghly afterward. Use only 91% isopropyl alcohol from the drugstore. It is pure alcohol and will not leave any residue. The lower strengths of 70% or 50% isopropyl alcohol may have additives other than water and you want to avoid that.

Methanol (aka methyl alcohol or wood alcohol) is VERY toxic and should NEVER be used to clean an atomizer. It would probably be ok if the methanol was pure and the atty were allowed to dry completely, but I still wouldn't chance it. You do NOT want to be vaping this stuff.

Edit: Oops! I forgot to mention "denatured alcohol". This is nothing more than ethanol with methanol added to make it undrinkable. Since it contains methanol, it should not be used for cleaning atomizers.

Thanks everyone. I was able to vape right after soaking in Coke. I guess I'll rely on my own experience with how it helps. For the 901, I'm assuming in certainly couldn't hurt :)

But my real solution is to only use a 901 for looks, thereby reducing wear an tear on the atty. My go-to ecig is the 510, where I have had no trouble with atomizers.

THAT SAID:

Was is the easiest way to get the filler off the heating element in between topoffs?

And FYI, I knew a guy that used gin to clean his glasses :)

Thanks,
Dave W.

Oh yes, that works very well.

I use Bombay Sapphire to clean my martini glasses.
But I note that it is an easier clean with a drop of vermouth and a little lemon peel added.

I also use Stone Ruination IPA to clean my beer mugs.
Nothing I've found works better.
