I'm not sure what edition they are calling them, but it appears that all CE2s now come with the fat wicks...

Rev 4 CE2s are both bowties and thick wicks. In fact, from all 8 boxes of XL R4s I've purchased recently, there have been at least two bowties in every box. I've found the same thing in 4 boxes I got from madvapes, and 2 each from 2 other places. I've found it to be this way with 2.4 and 2.8 ohm CE2 XL R4s. I cut the tubes off for use in my MAP tanks, and I happen to like the thick wicks better than the bowties...
What changed from R3 to R4 was that they no longer use any primer on them (so they should not need to be cleaned before use... I clean them anyway), the addition of the sleeve to cover the cap to the stem, and they no longer use any silicone or glue inside that tended to block the air holes in previous versions.
Why they come with either type of wick is a real mystery to me.
