I have a joye 510 coming in the mail tomorrow. I am going to try to use it to quit smoking regular cigs. I would love to use it to get off of nicotine all together. The kit I ordered came with a bottle of liquid and I chose the 24mg nicotine level. After doing some research I figured out this will be too much nicotine for me as I will probably puff on that thing too much. My question is how would I cut the level of nicotine in the liquid? Also I would like to know if it is possible to make liquid that contains no nicotine at all. On a side note this forum is an awesome place to do some late night reading.

You could go to Walmart , and buy some VG vegetable glycerin . In the pharmacy section . It's fairly cheap , but bear in mind , that it's very thick , and a little sweet tasting , and will probably mute the flavors . But if you cut the bottle you receive 50 / 50 , you would have aprox. a 12 % nic. level . Oh , and make sure the glycerin bottle says it's U.S.P.

Almost all food flavorings come in a base of either Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerine--and either can be vaporized in an e-cig, though pure flavoring would obviously be a bit intense for most people. It's really rather simple (and relatively inexpensive) to mix your own liquid by mixing USP grade glycerine or PG with whatever flavor or nicotine level you want, but many vendors allow you to customize your liquid if you aren't comfortable jumping into DIY and would rather leave the mixing to the experienced.

I agree with all of the above posts. I'll also add a lil about my experience cutting down. I started off wavering between 18-24 mg (24 being almost too much, but not quite too much). I then went to 12mg... After vaping between 18-24 for a week or two (fresh off of analog (regular) cigarettes (at about a pack a day) I felt 12mg was the worst place for me to be.

For about a week I felt like the nic level was not enough to thwart my withdrawal feelings - but just enough nic in my system to make me want more nic. But I stayed consistent for that week or so, and am(/have) now happily (been) vaping 12mg for about a month (maybe a lil more - it's been almost 8 weeks smoke free!). And I plan to reduce my nic level to 0 at some point as well.

My point and advice being... If it seems hard to reduce your nic level - well, it is... For about a week (ymmv). But try to trick your mind into thinking all you need at this time is the action of vaping and a little nic to get you through the rough time and you'll be in the clear soon enough.

Again, these are just my own subjective insights and perceptions. But I do hope it can help you with your journey.

There are many vendors that sell DIY liquid stuff. Example: One Stop DIY Shop

Get some supplies for your vaping journey when convenient for you. Example: Some VG, some PG, a few flavorings. These can be used to cut liquid and/or change the taste of a liquid that you don't like. Buy good PG/VG in 4 or 8 oz sizes... not anything smaller. This is commonly done with menthol crystals or flavoring, for example.

You can purchase 0 nic liquid in the same flavor as your 24 mg, and use that to cut, if you don't mix your own flavors.

smoked 1 & 1/2 packs a day Marlb lts for 40+ yrs. I, like you wanted to cut my nic intake to 0mg if possible. I started with 18mg and am now down to 6mg. It has taken me about 5 1/2 months though. My first 2 weeks I used a 18mg and then started to cut my pre-made juice with VG slowly!. I found that if I used a strong flavor(for me it was Jr mints Daddy from NicVape) I could cut it with VG up to 1/2 and still have some flavor. He now sells that particular flavor in 0mg. I think the key is to gradually cut your nic. Remember when you first started smoking, you didn't smoke a pack and a 1/2 a day, you gradually worked up to that so it stands to reason you will have to slowly back off the mg per day. There are several claculators on ECF that will help you figure out how to reduce the mg per ml. I think the best advise I could give someone is to not buy/make large quantities of juice in the beginning if you are plannig to reduce your mg. In the beginning I made way to much higher mg e-liquid and then just gave it away rather than mess with it. I now DIY so I never keep any more than a 1 month of premade e-liquid on hand. That way each month when I make new stuff I reduce the mg. Works for me............

The best way to cut 24mg liquid and keep up the flavor is to buy that same flavor in a low or zero mg and just add it to your 24mg. I cut my 24mg with vg when I first started and it really didn't change the flavor that much.

A great list for flavoring and DIY info for making your own liquid is in this older thread. You can make your own non-nicotine liquid, which is probably a good idea anyway when first starting out to do DIY liquids. It doesn't have some of the current flavorings available, or info. from some of the other websites like the flavoring available at Totally Wicked E Liquid Flavorings / E Cigarettes and E Liquid from Totally Wicked (which I really like to use for cutting liquids and to boost flavor), but the first 3 posts are packed with nice info including a section on a mixing primer for Newbies and there are tips and links sprinkled through all the pages. Worth reading. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/74109-guide-diy-flavoring.html

A partial list of DIY calculators is here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-dont-know-what-how-i-do-dyi.html#post3578100 and SubabatDan's calculator link is in the post below that.

If you bought the liquid separately, you can order a bottle of the same flavor but at a lower mg/ml, then mix the two together in another bottle to come out with intermediate points. For instance, buy 12 mg/ml. 50 % 24mg/ml and 50% 12mg/ml = 18 mg/ml strength.

I eyeball those kinds of things -- about half full on a bottle, then finish the fill with the other liquid, you'll be "close enough" to that 18.

Similarly, if the second bottle is 6 mg, it is pretty easy to mix 18 mg (2 parts 24, 1 part 6), 15 mg (1 part 24, 1 part 6), 12 mg (1 part 24, 2 parts 6). With one bottle of 24 and one bottle of 6 you can easily experiment, find what works for you.

(the 6 mg gives you more points to test against, though if you are a full PAD smoker it's likely that a 24 mg or 18 mg strength will be about right for you, at least to start)

Note -- drink lots of water. Vaping uses humectants, things that draw water out of you (that's the majority of the vapor you see on exhale).

One thing to keep in mind, if a tobacco flavor juice is made from Tobacco Absolute, it will have trace amounts of Niccotine.
Many vendors don't take this into account when they say O mg nicotine.

So if you are going for absolutely no nic, you will have to stay with "flavored" (read non-tobacco) jucies.

If you're worried about trace amounts of nicotine in tobacco absolute, you should also avoid eating any eggplant, tomatoes or peppers....but unless you're allergic to nicotine, I don't know why anyone would worry about it.

Well, there is the Health insurence that are trying to test for the presence of nicotine on peoples' tonges....
I am not "in the know" of how such a test would work (how much nic needs to be present to give a positive result, etc), but if you find yourself faceing such a test, trace amounts of nicotine "might" be something to worry about.

In all, I agree with you. It shouldn't be a factor in general use. Nothing to worry about, but it is information one should know.

I just want to get nic free eventually. From my experience quitting smoking before it really wasn't the nicotine withdrawals that I missed but rather the action of smoking. I just like having a cigarette and the action of smoking. The liquids I am getting with my kit are tobacco flavored 24mg. I just wasn't sure if a bottle of PG or VG could be used to just cut it down without adding anything else. This forum is great by the way. Thank you all for your help.

Yes, a lot of people (myself included) find that they naturally reduce the amount of nicotine as the days since my last smoked cigarette stretch into months and years. I find that I prefer e-liquids with around 1% nicotine (10mg/ml) is enough to get enough throat hit to be able to "feel" the vapor and enough nicotine to satisfy the craving without overpowering the flavor.

You can cut down the nicotine concentration by simply adding a bit of glycerin thinned with a bit of distilled water, but some vendors are selling "flavor doublers"--e-liquids mixed with extra flavoring but no nicotine to let you "bump up" the flavor and/or turn down the nicotine. TastyVapor.us is a great example as they sell 0-nic flavor doublers in 2oz and 4oz bottles.

I was doing 3packs/day of ultralights. Off analogs in 2 days at 16mg which seemed strong. Remember, MOST of cutting back directly relates to how much you vape. If the nic is low then you tend to vape more so it's not as much of a problem if you vape alot like I do. But if you are on a certain tight schedule like 20min for coffee, then 3 smoke breaks at work then you need to be careful dropping it too much.
