Hello, sorry if this has been asked before. I did some searches on here, but could not find what I was looking for. Here is the scenario. My Dad has diabetes, high blood pressure, and has suffered two strokes. I bought him an e cig (a nice 510 kit and an ego pt). Now he was vaping at the Doctors office and his blood pressure was through the roof. (I think he has high bp too and takes meds for it). He calls me to tell my how bad the e cig is for his bp. In my defense, I have been vaping for 8 months and know that nic is a stimulant and will raise bp a bit. I tell him to cut his nic strength on his e juice. I even sent him a bunch of pg , vg, and a few 6mg e juices. But my Mom is still insisting that those e cigs are bad for your bp and she wont touch them. How do I convice my parents that smoking is what started all these issues and not to blame the e cig for what they currently are going through. :facepalm:Tried sending /telling them about the research and stuff from the CASSA website. Any ideas?

I guess we would need a machine to check the blood pressure, check someone without vaping and recheck it after while vaping, repeat the process to many people, analyze the numbers. I personally have no problem with my blood pressure, been vaping for over a year and I sometimes check my BP at the local pharmacy, they have the machine to try for free.

Thanks for the "feedback", Zurd and Markfm. I was thinking that as well. My Dad has a device that hooks up to the telephone. It reports his bp, glucose levels, and some other stuff to his Doc. So his bp is being tested at least daily. I am sure if you were to take a drag of an analog cig, your bp would be elevated as well. Since nicotine is a stimulant. And who of us can do that? So surely having an e cig in the docs office is a new scenario for most. That is what I told him. Just wondering if there is a way I could justify/or try not to demonize the e cig for him and my Mom. Forgot to mention this: I live about 1100 miles away from my parents. It is hard to convey messages at times over the phone or internet. And no I don't do video chatting. :)Thanks!

I would surmise that e cigs would raise your blood pressure just as an analog does because of the nicotine. Though I don't have a blood pressure problem, If I were to have an analog immediately prior to my doctor's visit, my blood pressure would be higher than if I had an hour or so pass. I think your idea of cutting back on your Dad's nicotine is a good one.

It's going to be different for everyone, so it makes it a hard thing to apply to everyone. I happen to have treatment every two months for an autoimmune thing. This time when I went in I've been off analogs for two months. My treatment makes me stay there for a morning and they test vitals every hour. While having a washroom break I had quite a few puffs (more just because I could and it's sort of novel). When I came out the nurse was wheeling over the bp machine, so I thought it would be an interesting experiement. Reading was the same as the hour before. I use 18mg.

I would assume that lowering the nic would help, and compared to smoking it's definitely not any worse! Maybe do some tests like others mentioned. Try and get a baseline value in the morning prior to any puffing and compare other readings throughout the day. Good luck!

Yes I think your right on that one. I had that idea too. Hopefully the lower nic will help as well. Thanks

Thanks for the input. True we all are different. Like when I smoked I would get a warm sensation, dizzy, and red faced. Ya just knew your blood pressure was up. Never had that happen with the e cig. Except when I first started and over nic'd. Tried too many 24 mg juices, in just a few minutes. Whew, felt kinda drugged up. Not a good feeling. I will ask Dad if he can check his bp more often. He probably won't give me a blow by blow or detailed status report. Rather a more general description. Vape on!

Nicotine is a stimulant and on its own its going to raise blood pressure. I take meds for mine but I do not monitor it, I just have it checked every 3 months but I am sure it is just the same or even slightly higher since I vape to much. What you don't get is what analogs do in addition to high blood pressure, 400+ chemicals hardening your arteries, oxygen robbing carbon monoxide and pints worth of tar making it harder to breathe. Lowering the nic content is going to be the only way to lower his BP along with diet, exercise blah blah blah ;), but even if he doesn't it should stop from getting worse than if he kept smoking. Have him check with his doctor you don't want to mess around with very high blood pressure.

Thanks Diablo 3. lol Really cannot wait for that game to come out. :) Loved LOD. Anyways. I will tell him. I believe it is better for him than the smoking. And he has been smoking since the 70's. Or actually about 40 years or so. But with anything new, you tend to blame it first. Not the surrounding factors that have been building towards it for years. Thanks everyone for all your advice. I will definitely use it for helping my Dad and Mom. :) Vape On!

My ex-brother-in-law has diabetes and high blood pressure as well. He has been using an e-cig for about five months now and has no issues with either. In fact he says he feels healthier and can breathe better. He is vaing around 12mg to 18mg. He does see his doctor once a month to keep a check on things. His doctor actually approves him using an e-cig as she has been trying to get him off analogs for a good long time. She is for anything that will keep him from picking up a analog.

I am 61 years old and have been vaping 1 year. When I quit smoking this time I used vaping to do it. Have not slipped once like before when I did the patch, the gum, the other stuff. I did gain 30 lbs from quitting smoking and I had to go on blood pressure
meds. I asked my doctor who is a great doctor about vaping and he thinks its a great way to quit and says it will take years
to see if people really have any bad health issues. I do 0 nic and since I am on the blood pressure meds it stays really good.
I have noticed that once in awhile I will get a little coughing spell and I will put up my e-cig and it seems to go away. I do know that if I don't drink something my throat gets really dry and I will spit up alot of flam, but that could be from years of heavy smoking. I do feel alot better, and just try different things by the good advice I get here. My husband still smokes and I can get an instant headache around him if he does it to close to me. I am so grateful for e cigs and this forum.
