Hi Everyone,

I notice that Kanger ProTanks (both v1 and v2) make my juices VERY dark and the juice starts to taste burnt. I don't have the same problem with carto tanks. I am using the Provari and set the voltage appropriately for the atomizer resistance so that's not causing the problem.

Has anyone else experienced burning juices in the Kanger ProTank?

I have not removed the flavor wicks since I have not experienced wicking issues or leaking - just dark burnt juice.

Thanks!

How often do you clean/dry burn your coils and how dark/heavily flavored are your juices?

Flavorings in juice will natural caramelize/darken the liquid and gunk up the wicks/coils. This gunk can bleed into fresh juice from used heads and gunked up coils/wicks dont wick properly and tend to taste burnt.

I dont have a problem with a burnt tast but i have noticed that with any bottom coil tank the fluid will eventually get darker.I think it may have to do with the fluid sitting on the coil all the time.If you keep getting a burnt tast there are a bunch of post on here about adjusting the flavor wicks for different fluids.

Juice will caramelize due to Heat and settling. This can be minimized some.
Keep your draw going 1/2-1 second after releasing the button.
Shake the tank now and then to Re-mix the e-liquid.
Never top off, rinse between fills.
Reduce use of high sweetener e-liquids.
Reduce use of Dark e-liquids.
Shorten cleaning schedule.

Reduce power slightly. Assuming 8w works for a Vivi so it should work for a Protank......ect...... is asking for something to go wrong. Every design has it own unique characteristics.

I am sure the suggestions you all gave will help. The point is these Protanks seem to require a bit of fiddling around (never top off, rinse between fills, shorten cleaning schedule, etc) in order to use them without burning the juice. The juices I mostly use are Boba's Bounty and HHV Dragon Fire. Perhaps I should just stick to carto tanks for those juices and try the Protank on light colored juices only....

crxess mentioned in another thread how he/she doesn't top off.....and instead vapes the tank down, and then cleans it, and starts a new tank. While doing this 100% of the time is too much work for me (I vape a lot), I HAVE stopped topping off 9 out of 10 of the times...and it makes a HUGE difference.

As others have mentioned, the juice carmelizes....which by itself, should NOT be causing a burnt taste.

The only time I've ever had a burnt taste, is A) the voltage was too high, B) the coil needed to be replaced or cleaned, or C) I was vaping Unicorn Blood

Make sure to check your coils. If they have crud all over them, that is a sign they should be cleaned or replaced.

Also, like crxess said, I would recommend instead of topping off, you finish up that tank and clean it out before refilling. It CAN be a pain, especially since the pro tank doesn't vape nearly as well once you get to 1/2 tank and below....and especially starts to drop performance when the tank is 1/4 or below, but it will help.

Well.....the pro tank doesn't require any fiddling to avoid a burnt taste. Most people were telling you have to avoid the juice turning darker. The burn taste isn't really a problem for most people...so I'd encourage you to read the post I made above and check the coil out. You should NOT be getting a burnt taste, whether you top off or not..

I havent had any issues with my mini and topping off, maybe its from the lower capacity? But I do notice the darkening on a similar capacity stock ego c tank with topping off.... I let it go to a quarter full and the head floods, I top it off to above 3/4 and I have to put thought into how I draw or I grt dry hits.... removing wicks fixes the dry hits but makes the flooding worse.... I get burnt tastes abiut every three days on a head.... I'd vote for checking the coils.... and I'd lean towards avoiding topping off for the darkening....

I'm using a mini PT2 and I find the biggest thing is just making sure not to go too high on your power setting for the coil you have. Also, it seems to help if I take one of the two flavour wicks out so it will wick your liquid a bit better. I know others have found the same as kanger really seems to like packing the wicks in really tight. Just take out a little bit at a time though or you'll start leaking.

As far as your voltage/wattage setting, I find this chart to be really helpful. I'm using an iTaste MVP 2 battery so I can play around with both volts and watts to dial it in just right.

Hope this helps!

Tiny Tip on Juice Darkening:

Just this week, found this change.
My norma Vape is a medium dark Cappuccino mix
After 2 fills liquid would start darkening and get very dark by ens of tank
Wicking would also start failing - Flavor shifts - Primer puffs helped less
Cleaning was required to get things going properly again.

As I was assembling the cleaned wick the Flavor wicks did their typical separation while placing into the slots.
I removed 1 section, approximately 1/3rd of 1 flavor wick.

Result - Now on 5th tank refill from almost empty with *very* minimal Darkening, NO Flavor Change and most importantly, The Smoothest Vape I have gotten off these wicks to Date.:)

This adjustment is NOT an Absolute.
Everything will depend on all factors of your use.
For me, typical 50/50 mix, normal 4-8 second draws, Tank working acceptably from start, this experiment succeeded.
