So, I have 4 batteries for my mech. All are efest (yes i know about efest's batteries being rejects of other manufacturers) 2 are "35A" 2500mah and 2 are 20A 2200mah. Anyways, one of them was the first one i used in my mech mod, not knowing at the time that efest are longer than other 18650 brands, i tightened my cap all the way down, indenting the positive on my battery. It was never a problem using this said battery until today. I couldn't get my atty off of my mech, so i used a phillips to turn the positive thread to loosen it off my mech. All seemed ok, except my middle dual positive posts had turned askew, so I loosened the screw once I had it off my mod, straightened them and retightened. I am stating this information, because there is a gasket in between the positive post/screw and the atty, that seemes to be made of polyurethane. anyways, i put it all back together and proceeded to fire it. There was no vapor, no sound at all. Confused, I tried to fire it again, suddenly smelling burnt plastic. I took the battery out and it was hotter than usual, enough to be concerned. The bottom of my atty had gotten what looked like arc burns on the 510 thread, and had melted away some of the gasket. I then put in a different battery and tried firing again, no problems this time, it vaped and the battery was not heating up. My questions are... Why has this battery failed? Has it shorted because the positive is now making contact with the body of the battery via the indention? Can I still safely use this atty? 90-95% of the gasket is intact and it does not appear that the positive screw is touching the atty body.

I have a battery with a small indent in the top contact. I have had no problems with it other than having to adjust the screw post in my mod every time I put the battery in, but that's not a big deal. I imagine the length of the battery is pushing up on the post in your mod which pushes up on the contact inside your atty's 510 threading causing the center post in your atty to short to the inside of the outside of the 510 threads. If by askew you mean leaning to one side or the other than this would make perfect sense.

I would assume that using this atty isn't going to give you any problems. The battery may be kill though. A short like that is a huge load and you've probably done a number on it. A way to check if the atty is till good is to through it on an ohm meter with no build. If it gives you any reading at all then atty is also kill.

Hi JestoNsane4u and welcome aboard!

Depending on what atty you have, you might be able to get a replacement insulator.

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

Jest2 -- Sounds like you shorted the atty and melted the derlin insulator..That caused your Efest battery to heat..It's not safe now and neither is the atty,.. You need to replace the atty and battery and bin that battery asap.
If you have no back up you might want to get one. Just my :2c:
