Hi there, looking to get my first mech tube mod.It won't be my first mech, but all I have used before are various mechanical squonk box mods.My question is ,in the tube mod ,should I put the battery positive up or down?I'm looking at getting the geekvape tsunami kit, which only has venting holes on the bottom. It also has the insulated inside piece ,so putting the battery positive down seems like it would be safer,no?I've only ever put the positive down in my squonkers so I'm not really sure which way I should on this one.

Normally you put positive up as this prevents a short if you get a wrap tear. I recommend this if you are using the Tsunami's 510 pin top cap. If you use the faux hybrid (direct-to-battery) top cap-- a thing I do not recommend, I wouldn't have one in my house-- you may wish to reverse the battery even at the risk of a vent. I say this because I consider that top cap a greater hazard than a wrap tear, especially if you inspect your batteries before installation.

I also wouldn't have a direct battery mod in my house. What's the point? IMHO, its a reckless and unnecessary flaw in design. Too many precautions are needed to use one with any amount of safety. Please read down to the section about direct battery mods in the blog below:

If you still insist on getting the Tsunami and decide to use the hybrid cap, since it has that insulated sleeve for the battery I'd orient the battery positive down like Suprtrker suggested. Batteries are designed to vent gas from their positive end and since the vent holes are located in the Tsunami's bottom, that seems to be wiser in this instance.

Thanks for the reply.I have 0 intention of using the hybrid top cap, really too risky for my liking.I plan on only using the 510 top cap.

But since it has an insulated sleeve ,would there be an issue using it positive down with the 510 connector?Just curious ,like I said I’ve got expirience with mechanical mods just not tubes so I’m not certain

Having an insulated battery sleeve, it doesn't matter what orientation the battery is in, because the insulated battery compartment prevents a frayed battery liner (actually the exposed metal) from making contact with the metal body of the mod causing a short.

However, that's not the point that suprtrker and myself were trying to impress upon you. With a so-called "hybrid" mod (really a misnomer, its really a faux hybrid or direct battery mod) there is no insulated center pin in the 510 connector of the mod. That's where a short can occur if you don't use an atomizer with an extended center pin.

Probably 99% of all mod explosions are because of user error by vapers using a mechanical mod. Most of those explosions are user error, using the wrong type of atomizer on a "hybrid mod". Ignorance is no excuse; know your equipment.

I appreciate your concern over the use of a hybrid 510 ,and I am aware of the dangers of hybrid connectors. However my mod also comes with a standard 510 connector with a spring loaded pin.And that is the only connector I will be using.
