I vape 18mg nic pretty much exclusively, it just works for me i guess.

If i were to buy something like this 18mg Nicotine solution - 120ml

an 18mg nic 80pg/20vg liquid... I would essentially have exactly what i vape, minus the flavoring right?

Flavoring is such small amounts, it wouldnt really dilute the nicotine level, or only at a negligible amount? Right?

I want to experiment with flavors, and this just seems like the easiest/most obvious way.

Is my thinking here wrong?

Your better off buying your Nic a bit higher, all depends on what flavor and Mix your making, it could end up diluting it down to 12mg or so and that might not do it for you. I buy all mine in 100MG and transfer it right to a Glass bottle and then right into the freezer, the Freezer is where you will want to store it if you can. ( Careful if you have young children of course but the Nic thrives in the cold and will stay fresh for a long time if your buying any nice size amount. You can also buy it in a 24mg or 36mg and just cut it with PG/VG/Flavoring, this may be your other best bet. Either way step it up higher then your 18MG would be my advice, as well as download a simple DIY Calc so you can hit your exact %'s that you want. Good luck, DIY is the way to Roll, and it will end up saving you lots $$ and practicing making juice is fun, here is a little site for some recipe's for you too = The Vape Book

You will cut the Nicotine level when you add flavours, example say you add 10% flavour you are cutting your nicotine down by 10%, so 18mg nicotine would end up at about 16.2%. This may not be a problem for you if you are using less flavour then you are cutting it down less. Depends on how important your end nicotine mg is to you.

Yeah, I'd recommend getting 24mg/ml or above, as well. If you don't want to worry about dealing with high strength nic, 24 will work fine. Personally, I like to use 36mg/ml as a base, with an 18mg/ml target, because it's dead easy. Just 50% nic base, and 50% flavoring + plain VG.

Depending upon the specific flavoring, you could end up needing less than 1% flavoring, or more than 20%, so it's good to have some headroom.

For instance, with 24mg/ml, you'd use the nic base as 75% of the final mix, giving you up to 25% for flavoring. If you only need 15% for flavoring, then the final 10% can be PG/VG/DW/PGA.

It's pretty simple to figure what the final nic strength will be for a mix using the same formula for figuring averages:

(5 + 7 + 9 + 11 + 13) / 5 (<-the number of things to average) = 9 average

In the mixing example above, 3/4 of the mix is 24mg/ml, and 1/4 is 0mg, so (24 + 24 + 24 + 0) / 4 = 18.

A similar way to figure it would be just figuring the mg/ml. If you make a 20ml batch using 15ml of 24mg/ml and 5 ml of non-nic, then you have 15 * 24mg = 360mg of nic in a 20ml solution, resulting in 360mg / 20ml = 18mg/ml solution.

I'm wondering what the best brand of nicotine base is? I got a bottle of 72mg from Totally Wicked, made in the UK, and it seems very nice, though it does smell odd.

Also, does the nicotine base 'go bad'? I've been keeping mine in a cool cupboard, but not the frig. It came in a glass bottle and would be easy enough to freeze... I'd just have to unfreeze it when I mix.

I am very new to DIY, but I just couldn't see spending the money on e-juice flavors that were inconsistent from batch to batch. Right now I'm using flavorings from the health food store- cherry and vanilla. It seems pretty simple. I wouldn't say delicious, but definitely vapable. And I really like how comparatively cheap it is : )
