Okay, made my first two coils the other day. One using 30awg came in @ 2.1 ohm and another using 32awg came in at 2.2 ohm. So, wife was using the 30 and was working fine. She used it for awhile then sat the whole tank (with fluid) down and switched. It's been a couple days, she picked up the tank with the homemade 30 and it popped. Tried again and it again popped and spit fluid up the tube and drip tip and onto her tongue.

Note...both as well used cotton yarn as wicks. 4 strand within the coil and 2 loose strands as flavor wicks.

Is this just to much fluid on the wicks and just needs to burn off or possibly a short? Never had this issue using stock ProTank Kanger coils.

So....any thoughts or ideas to help me out?

Note2...using the homemade 32 worked just as well, haven't gone back to it yet to see if it pops. I'll check it out later today to see.

Not sure, but if these are your first two coils, maybe you should have to stuck to silica at first? The reason I say that is because pro tanks come stock with silica....and I wouldn't change anything for my first few coils , until you get the hang of it.

Not sure what happened - I use silica, 32g, and Ive never had that issue w/ building pro tank coils. Only problem I've ever had is having one of the ends of the wire touch metal where it shouldnt, and it wont fire up.

Well....I suppose I could have used silica which I also ordered with the wire. Didn't figure that would be the issue.

Any other helpful suggestions?

It's not a short. I think it's excess fluid that gets heated up really fast. Like throwing water on a hot pan, and it sputters and dances around. Not much you can do about it, except maybe use more wick. It happens to me a lot. Good thing is, at least you know it's wicking... :)

My guess would be that it is a hotspot where the wire has a miniscule gap between it and the wick (thus making it hotter than the wire which is in contact with the wick) and then, as cramptholomew said, a tiny amount of liquid comes into contact with it and is heated up really fast and pops

Thanks all for the replies!! Good suggestions with firing it a couple times simply as a precautionary measure. I did this and it stopped and worked beautifully. Just to see, I did tear it down and Bkag, think you are right. The flavor wicks were separated...maybe a bit to much fluid so I need to tweak this just a bit. Really do appreciate all the replies!! Great help.
