For those of you using ribbon wire, what is the trick to getting a good coil with it. I am torching the hell out of it and it still seems to not want to stay tight on my wick. What are y'all doing to make it work?? Thanks
What size ribbon are you using?
What kind of wick material are you using?
What kind of atomizer are you building this in/for?
I've only used .8mm so far in an AGA and an IGO-L. It hasn't been too terrible to work with. More challenging than round wire for sure.
I always wrap my ribbon coils on the atty. Capture one end, wrap it up tight on the wick, capture the other end.
I've got .8 and .5, I have tried it on xs116 and ekowool which is a pain. I got it on a aga also but I get better results with round wire out of all the different attys.
I use .5 and wrap on a finish nail or a metal poker thing I have. Heat, wrap then capture one end on the post and tighten coil then capture other end then thread the wick. Seems to hold its shape just fine.
On my aga I wrap it on the ss mesh wick right on atty, I find it easier to adjust each coil as I wrap instead of the whole thing once completed.
I'll torch it once to get the spring out of it. When wrapping the coil I start from the inside out. For example, if youre doing 6 coils the ill wrap 3 coils on one side then flip it around and wrap 3 more with the other leg. This will keep the tension even so you dont have one side tighter than the other. After you wrap your coil torch it again while it's still on your screwdriver. Use needlenose pliers to gently pull the legs while torching it and it will stay in that general shape.
