I noticed about two weeks in that I started tasting things differently. Prior to that I wasn't really tasting much at all - except that my flavor tasted like tobacco - it was quite strong. But any subtleties were lost on me. Now I really taste the difference. I think you'll get there. Quite a few people start with strong flavors and later on go to milder ones because their taste has changed and come alive again. You're off the cigs - which is the biggest deal of all. The rest will follow. :)

It will take a little while, but those taste buds will wake up and one day you'll go, like whoa!, and you'll taste flavor where you didn't before. You'll find yourself liking liquids you thought you didn't care for, and vice versa. Someone here had a nurse or other medical personnel recommend brushing one's tongue once a day - gently - with a soft bristle toothbrush and a very weak solution of listerine and water, to help with the taste buds.

Your whole body is going to go through some changes as it starts to get rid of some of the gunk from smoking. You'll maybe experience congestion for a few weeks, maybe a few months. Use an over the counter decongestant that works for you and doesn't interfere with any other meds you may have. And, drink lots of water. Vaping will dehydrate you. That, and water is just plain good for your body's regeneration anyway.

Best advice I can give any new non smoker is, see your doctor. Not only will he or she be ecstatic that you quit smoking, they will also be able to give you some insights as to what to expect as you begin to heal from smoking.

Smoking will kill your taste buds something awful, but it's amazing how quickly you regain them. Depending on how heavily you smoked, it could be anywhere from two weeks to three months before flavors really start to pop out at you. This probably explains why menthol (a particularly strong taste regardless of whether your taste buds are intact or not) stands out among everything you might have vaped, flavor-wise.

Stick with the tobaccos a bit longer until you really feel your sense of taste and smell come back (remember that smell and taste go hand in hand and you lost the ability to smell well while you smoked). Or, if you're eager to taste something different, order juices from vendors that are juice vendors first and foremost, as opposed to Apollo that is more about their devices and then their flavors (not a knock on Apollo at all, but it's why the specialty juice vendors exist as their concoctions are the only way for them to stand out among the competition). Some that come to mind are Mrs T's Bake Shop, RAWR Vapor, PinkSpot, Alien Visions, ECBlends (very economical) and others that you'll have no trouble finding reviews and opinions about on ECF. Some vendors will allow you to add "double flavor," which is what you imagine it is and might help you to taste your juices more as you regain your sense of taste. Hope this helps.

I've been smoking for 30 years until it became such a nuisance... One cannot smoke anythere these days, except his own backyard.
I've tried tens of tastes, funny enough - so called "tobacco flawors" smell like an old ashtray to me, all the same. So i tried something different and found something to my taste, it has nothing to do with tobacco flawor at all. Cannot really describe the taste. Try it - you'll find yours.

Most new vapors are not aware that the best technique to using an e-cig is different from smoking an analog. SteelJan had a good video on YouTube on how to vape. Not sure if it is still available. But here are some tips:

Instead of inhaling directly into your lungs, suck on the e-cig like you would a milkshake. Allow the vapor to fill your mouth and throat before inhaling it into your lungs. Most of the nicotine in vapor is absorbed by the throat and mouth. During exhale, allow the vapor to leave thru your mouth AND NOSE. Our sense of taste is indirectly dependent upon our sense of smell. I "taste" my e-juice flavors mainly thru my nose.

In the beginning, when ordering your juices online, if given the option, order with extra flavor. I order small trial sizes or sample packs from vendors to try them out before spending big buck on the larger size bottles. I use the new CE3's instead of a wasting an entire carto to test new flavors. If I don't like the flavor, I remove it and rinse the CE3 with water, and fill with another flavor to test.

Some custom made juices need a week or so to steep to realize their best flavor, so if one doesn't appeal to you, revisit it again a few days later. You may be surprised how much better it tastes.

Some great suggestions here.
I smoked for over 30 years and it took me a while to get my taste back, even after 4 months it still isn't where it should be although it's much improved....so don't worry it'll get better.

In the mean time:
Drink plenty of water then drink some more
order double strength flavor
mouthwash twice a day, brush tounge
vape a variety of flavors so you don't get used to one

I have a theory that I need to try a lot of different flavors from a lot of different companies so I can figure out what I like. To this end I have been following links I see here, especially in the Steals & Deals thread. If I see something that interests me I put in an order for a couple of bottles that sound interesting. Hey - its still cheaper than analog cigs and analog cigs still taste like ...

Hmmm maybe later us newbies should have a swap of liquids that we didn't care for but others might like.
