Howdy Folks,

I just started vaping a week and a half ago with a Volt starter kit and a few packs of cartomizer's. I am really enjoying the menthol flavors (I smoked Camel Menthol's, about a pack a day) but am having trouble with the other flavors.

I'm not sure if it's due to my dulled taste buds and/or sense of smell from smoking for 24+ years but I just can't taste much of anything from the non menthol cart's. I got 2 sampler packs (Sweet and Strong) and I can smell the "flavor" but I can't taste it.

So I guess the question for those with more experience than me is can I expect to start noticing the flavor more as I recover from years of smoking analog's, or is it just me?

Hi and welcome!

It can take quite awhile for your sense of taste to improve. I smoked for a very long time and it took about 2 months before I could taste anything other than menthol and mint, and some of the more subtle flavors I still can't taste. Drinking a lot of water can help (which you should be doing anyway, since vaping is very dehydrating), but other than that - and trying mints - there's not much you can do. Your taste buds are getting even with you for being mean to them.

HI StrangeShay. There will be lots of changes and all of them are good. They won't all come at once though. For me, after 42 years of smoking, it took about 2 months and all of a sudden my synus's started clearing up and I could smell better. Taste wise I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference but everything tastes better without the ashtray in your mouth. Maybe the juices are weak to begin with?

Could be any one or combination of a bunch of things. I just got a Johnson Creek sampler and a couple of the flavors, I have the same problem. I can smell them but taste? Not so much.

Taste is so subjective, who knows? Tons of variety out there (amazing amount really, just stunning) so try some others. I still new enough I'm only getting "samplers". I never know how I'll react to a flavor. Or if I'll react. Some seem pretty much just absent. Others? Very much present. :)

(Like JC's Rainer is a cherry flavor with something of a kick to it. I can't tell if I like it or not. But it's interesting.)

I smoked menthols for 20 years, and when I started vaping those were the flavors I started with. I just may be lucky, but I got a ton of taste & smell back in about 2 weeks after totally quitting analogs(if you're still grabbing an analog here or there that might impede this). Now I can taste so many more things, I was amazed going to the same sushi place I've been going for a while and being like OMG this is the best sushi I've ever had. One day you'll just wake up and taste/smell it, it's amazing to me.
