My first Oak from the first run of woodvils had the tongue oil and that took about a month to go away completely.
I've very sensitive to smells, my wife kicked and screamed but had to give up any perfume or scented products over 20 years ago right after we met.
So for me the problem goes beyond the finish and right down to the wood itself. All woods have an oder and its there to stay. Some are strong and some not so bad. I'm sure Rob knows each smell well from working with them.
I'm one of the guilty ones that had a woodvil for a couple of months that still tasted way off so I sold it. I assumed it was just me but I see that same woodvil got sold again a while back. I don't remember the wood combo off hand. And I don't know the reason it was re-sold but have to wonder.
I'll give you a somewhat long story if your interested.
I have 2 woodvils here one oak and one cocobolo that have had the exact same juice in them for months.
(I keep one at 3.7 with a HH-357 and the other at 6v with a 3Ω carto)
I can drop the cocobolo one down to 3.7 and put the HH atty from the oak one on and .....
The first 5-8 hits taste exactly like they did when the atty was on the oak.
But then it starts to change and pick up the cocobolo flavor (same flavor as smelling the mod)
So even after months of airing out and with the same juice in them for that time the flavor of the wood still comes through for me.
I don't know if its tainting the juice of the fact that your nose is inches away while you vape ??
But the result is the same, different flavor with different wood.
I'm sure I'm the extreme but its there.
+1
I am extremely sensitive, also. In addition, at the height of my debilitating migraines, 98% of my triggers were from odors. OK, virtually 100%. Even as a 3 PAD smoker I retained a keen sense of smell and taste. DH uses Cody Musk that is one of the few fragrances that never triggered my migraines.
After trying just about all ways to remove the finish/wood smell, the best I have found is unused coffee grounds, in a closed container.
