Do a 'Make Believe' mix. Write down everything you would be mixing together.
What amounts of each ingredient will you be using? Small batch, large batch?

Do the math to calculate NIC strength. Get really good with the math.

Sounds like you still have a little reading to do before you actually buy DIY NIC and start mixing.

Download one of the Mixing calculators, e-juice me up is a good one, and so is Easy E-juice,,, Beakers aren't a necessity necessarily,,, but glass bottles are much better then the plastic in my opinion,,,,, TPA sells flavorings in glass bottles and I use my empty ones for my juice. I also mix everything but my Nic first, warm it up a bit to help it all mend together then once it comes back to room temp add my Nic and shake shake shake, then let steep for a few days.

I've got a calculator was planning on getting 500 ml 24 mg 70vg/30pg and 500 ml of pg mixed it would be 65pg/35vg adding flavoring to get to about 70pg/30vg. I'm pretty good with math to start so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to get 30ml and 10ml bottles and 10ml syringes, I already have some 8ml bottles that go with me if i need to refill tanks.

Depends on the size of your batch.
I still say do a 'make believe batch' to practice.

If you make 10 to 50ml at a time, individual ingredients can be added with a measuring instrument of the appropriate size.
(1 or 3ml syringe and a 10ml syringe). If you have a bottle of 500ml of 48mg/ml you will be opening it many times before it is used up.

For larger batches,
measuring 100 to 200ml of an ingredient like Vegetable Glycerin with a syringe would be a real pain.

Safety practices and personal protective gear not only keep the Nic off your skin, spilling it all over, but also help keep the individual ingredients from becoming contaminated or contaminating other things.

Get sloppy with DIY mixing and you waste, spill, contaminate, and make mistakes.

Here & There
I would say it's personal preference. I use graduated cylinders almost exclusively for my diy. I put x amt of nic in there, and add my flavorings accordingly. I use syringes for more complex recipes because more accuracy is needed for small amounts of flavors.

I am hooked on the cylinder since I got one a few weeks back- a nice glass one. :) I still use the syringes for the flavorings or for tiny test batches.

About the only other thing I use is a Graduated Cylinder for Down Mixing Nicotine Base into what I call “Pre-Mix”.

Pre-Mix is a Flavorless Nicotine Base in the PG|VG Ratio I like to use. The Pre-Mix is about 20% Higher in Nicotine that what I want to Vape so that I can Add Flavorings a Sweeteners and Achieve my desired mg level.

So when I go to make a DIY recipe, I add 80% Pre-Mix to the Glass Dropper Bottle I use to Fill my Cartos/Attys/CE2’s and then add 20% Flavoring/Sweetener via Drops.

Nothing to Wash or Clean up.

BTW – I know when the word “Drops” are used people Freak Out. I have Excepted the Fact that some People just Can’t handle the Idea that a Recipe can have Two Different Units of Measure in them, ie: ml and Drops. Or that a Recipe can be adjust for things like Difference of Drop Size due to Dropper Cross Sectional Area or Liquid Viscosity.

I have also Excepted the Fact that some People believe that their DIY Mixtures have to have Level Of Accuracy of +/- .01 ml for All Ingredients.
