Hi There,
Only joined ECF today & not sure where to post questions to ? So I'll try here & if wrong please set me straight !
Am using a Vandy Vape Beserker with 65/35 VG/PG & about 10% Capella French Vanilla V2, coil is Kanthal A1, 28g wound on 2.5 mm former, 7-8 wraps giving me 1.17 ohms. My draws on the ecig are about 1.5-2.5 seconds on 12 watts VW vape is just slightly warm & tank doesn't get hot at all.
Could this setup produce a coil hot enough to produce formaldehyde, been reading a lot lately on ecig safety but am a bit confused on this one.
Regards,
Brunka.

To my understanding most non temperature control vapes can technically get hot enough to produce aldehydes. I think more about the chemical content of the eliquid before I worry about the temp I'm vaping at, just my mentality personally.
I am by no means very knowledgeable about this...

You can't really measure the temperature of the coil by the temp of the tank (although if your tank is merely "warm" at 12 watts, I'm not sure how much I would be worried.

As was stated, using a temperature control wire and device will give you peace of mind I use TC on some, not all, of my vapes, and also use best practices for non-TC vapes, I don't chain vape them, I rotate setups, I use 10% DW in my vapes, etc. I prefer a cool vape.

Even using TC, really the only time I hit the TC ceiling is if I'm out and about with only a few vapes. It's useful for that purpose, but it also shows me my "other best practices" are working. I like a cool vape, personally.:

New studies find carcinogens in vg and pg at high temps, even in tootle puffers

Based on studies from a few years ago, but people still post there. I've not read the thread, but my ignorance on the subject is based on "anything is safer than smoking tobacco". If these substances are indeed present in vapor, they are present in such low percentages compared to smoking that it doesn't matter to me.

I think the length of that thread is enough to scare anyone away from the topic.;) My understanding is the same. Vaping has some bad stuff, but it's far better than smoking. As others have said, if you're really concerned about it you could try TC - if you're making your own coils it should be pretty easy to switch to stainless steel (SS 316) - and stay below 210 C.

Since you are a new member, the ECF moderators will allow you to post a limited number of posts in the new members forum. I believe after 5 posts or so (frequency of posts also come into play), you might be expected to know a little more about where the different "on topic" forums are and are encouraged to utilize these.
To pursue you posting question and to get a definitive answer, could ask the moderators by clicking "Contact Us" located on the blue stripe at the bottom right hand side of this post.
Example: You question above maybe classified as a health query, you could post it in :

You could also post it in (there may be several other too):
General Vaping Discussion
My rule of thumb when it comes to posting a question in a forum, post in the forum you expect that "someone who wants to look up your subject, may start in that logical forum using the ECF search function" (upper right hand corner of this post).

Place the mouse pointer on your name. You will get a drop down and on the left hand side of this drop down you will find "Personal Details". Click Personal Details.
In Personal Details, in middle of screen in gray, you will find "Location" Could fill that box line in.

If it has trouble wicking it could. Or if the wicking is uneven it could burn some at one spot.

I use about that coil + 1 wrap at 14.3W power mode or 16W in TC at 400 degrees and it only fully protects when running dry (RDA). Medium airflow, restricted DL. Settings same on 2 different mods (using SS, so not highly accurate, but it does correlate).
