I found that my local Co-op sells 1 gal bottles of pg for cattle, It says that its USP grade 100% PG. Is this safe for use in e-liquid? Concern being that it is used for cattle.
If the product is properly labeled as Propylene Glycol USP it is the USA pharmaceutical grade. No words or symbols should appear between the words "Propylen Glycol" and "USP". Packaging of USP products requires a high quality seal under the cap and an expiration date.
The shelf life is 24 months. Buying a container of more PG than you can use in 24 months may not be an economical choice depending on how picky you are about PG.
That's a good question. USP does set standards for veterinary drugs, too. It's cheaper for Dow to produce large quantities of single grade PG that meets many purposes instead of producing several various grades.
I'm guessing so. Say Dow for example makes the Propylene Glycol USP and sells it the Pretty Pony Company for Pretty Pony brand horse feed PG. If it says Propylene Glycol USP on the Pretty Pony label then it meets the highest standards and can be used for pharma, food and feed purposes. Food grade (FCC) can't be substituted for USP.
