Question on the 510 connection

Hello all, just got a Reo Grand yesterday, and I have a quick question about the 510 connection. Is it cut directly into the aluminum, or is it some kind of insert? I'm always wary of aluminum threads, especially on 510 connections. And if they are, has anyone managed to wear theirs down, or stripped them?

Sorry for the newbie questions, Reos are just new to me

It's an insert .

The connector is press fitted into the REO. Usually they work well for years. Now if you happen to force an atty or rba on the connector you might strip the threads. There have not been many posts on here of that happening.

The insert is plated brass that may change down the road I am working on a new 510 connection . Of course if a mod was to ever need repair it would get one of the new 510 connections

I stripped one out after a year of use. Rob fixed it for me in record time before I deployed overseas.

hey Rob, is the insert pressed in? how can it be removed, can it just be pressed down/out from the top? I haven't tried because don't want the down time. also, could you tell me the bore diameter? thanks

Well, after receiving my RM2 I go straight to try it out, but just a single rba can be threaded in my grand. Is a Mini A7, but was having issues with an A7, a phoenix and some others. Being overseas having to send my REO to get it fixed is NOT an option, is there a fix for it that I can DIY ?

If the threads are bad in your mod you will need to send it to me there is no easy fix

It is pressed in you cant push it out the bottom . .420

Shipping it to you is not an option for me, it would cost me a ton of money, would take a month to get there if it doesn't get lost in the middle, and then have to pay to ship it back. I've bought several parts from you in the last months, so I have spares to attempt a fix

Not a hijack, but along the same lines.

I recently received a used grand and just installed a rebuild kit into it. Under the 510 fitting appears to be an insulating silicone/rubber mass. It appears to have suffered damage of some sort. Is this DIY replaceable or is this also a send in process. Either way is fine with me, just concerned with safety and proper function.

What you see is the just a insulator its only purpose is to help keep the center post were it belongs and make it so the center post cant touch metal the ground . It may not look pretty because some one shorted the mod but I can assure you its fine .
