unless you specifically asked for a high res. atomizer, i believe they ship all kits with a standard resistance. the penstyle is a good atty at 6V, and it should stay cooler than either a 901 or a 510 at standard resistances. however, it can get hot too under certain conditions:
1) don't hold the button in too long, no longer than 3 full seconds at a time, when pulling or it can overheat. and give it a chance to cool down, usually just a couple seconds with a penstyle atty, before you hit the button again. doing two and three second pulls at a time will keep it cool and running with very little interruption at all.
2) keep it wet. you don't want the atty to dry out. the juice actually reduces heat consumed at the atomizer and keeps it running a little cooler. add that to the fact it absolutely loves juice at 6V and you gotta keep it wet to keep it running cool and as it should.
3) don't flood it. there's a fine line between keeping an atty wet and putting too much juice in at a time. if the atty floods, then it will overheat trying to wick the excess juice and vaporize it fast enough. it's an uphill battle, and the atty generally loses in this race. blow it out, reprime it with three to four drops and start fresh.
all of this is assuming you are dripping, but if not, you may be encountering overheating because there really is no cart material that can effectively keep wicking juice to the atty coil fast enough at 6V. what happens is the top of the cart material with all the juice gets the job done at first, but then it dries out, when there's still plenty of juice at the bottom. because the coil isn't wet, the atty overheats easily in this setup as well.
bottom line though, the penstyle in standard resistance (BE112 recommended for your next purchase) is a workhorse at 6V and is the most forgiving of actions that might otherwise lead to instant death on another standard resistance atty. but overheating is generally caused from one of the three conditions above, and once you find your balance there it's pretty much smooth sailing.
because the 801 and other penstyle attys have a higher resistance than standard 306s, 510s, and 901s, they remain cooler under the same conditions. going to a high resistance 801 or 112 will keep it even cooler, but it will also lower the heat in watts consumed and affect the "vape" as it is now. if you like the vape, but just want to keep the atty cool, chances are you'll be better able to do so by reducing button hold time, keeping the atty wet, and not flooding it.
