Hi,

I just got my Reo Grand + RM2 + mini cartos + mini attys.

I built RM2 and it works great. Drop the o-ring in the catch cup, screw on RM2 and it vapes likes a champ and the catch cup is dry when RM2 is unscrewed.

With mini carto/attys, when I screw them on and squonk, I see juices in the catch cup and then it seems to stay there. It doesn't seem to retract fast like it does on RM2. Is this normal? I didn't have a chance to draw on the carto/atty to see if the juices retract.

Any help is appreciated.

You may be over squonking and/or over juicing the carto. Do you blind squonk the carto; squonking the bottle without firing and drawing on the carto while squonking until you feel some resistance? DH and I used cartos for a year before we got our first RBAs, Hornets and ERAs. We never had any issues with juice in the wells or leaking and DH air traveled twice a week with carto on Mini, in pocket. We didn't like the shortie cartos, though, so only used them for about a week. They may be different. Also, it's easy to flood most attys. Blind squonking keeps juice from going into catchcup unless you over squonk. Ocassionally attys and cartos may self feed in very hot temps like hot car. Also, when you are going to pocket, purse, set down it's good to vape most juice out of atty.

Alice,

Thank you for your post.

I just squonk while looking down the catch cup (is this the right way?) and see the juice gathering in it and when I let go, it doesn't seem to drain very fast. I've tried with both shorty atty and shorty carto with same result. I don't use the o-ring as I don't see the purpose of it and it's bit big for the carto/atty size.

No issue when using it with RM2.

The atties and cartos aren't as free flowing as far as the juice is concerned...so yes, juice will flow back down, but not at the speed it does with the RM2. So when adding juice to your atty or carto, go a little easier on it. And as Alice mentioned above, perhaps trying to blind squonk would make it easier to control...(it works well for most folks, but not everyone).

How you do it: Make like you're going to vape, only don't press the button. Gently press on the bottle while drawing on the drip tip. You may hear a gurgling sound or you may feel a pressure change. Only takes a second to get to this point. You have drawn juice up into the attie, but not too much. Then vape. Takes a few tries to get the feel for it, but it was my method of choice when I was using atties. My cup stayed dry once I got the hang of it.

If you prefer just squeezing the bottle, then a simple 2 count should suffice. If juice is pooling in the cup, then you are squonking too much.

Hope this helps. :) Keep us posted.

If you do the blind squonk there shouldn't be any juice going to the well. It takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature.

Very helpful information. I will try this when I get home from work (I live in the other side of the world and it's already TGIF here).

Frak, I thought learning the word "squonking" was enough but there is "blind squonking"? Is there reo dictionary somewhere? :p

I'm relatively new to Reo's, too. I had a lot of frustration with cartos and attys when I first got mine, and I actually set it aside for a month or so. I got it back out a few weeks ago, came back here, did some reading and finally understood what the "blind squonk" was about. I also changed from dual coil to single coil cartos. The end result was that I finally felt like I was getting good results and have been using the Reo just about all day, every day, now. Sometimes I still overfill the carto, but not as often, and I haven't "burnt" one since changing to single coil. At first I was pre-filling the carto, but have had better success recently without doing that (just make sure to blind squonk before taking the very first hit on a new carto). I even got brave the other day and got my atty (just a simple 510 atty) out yesterday, and have been real good success with that as well. It just takes a little practice and experimenting for some of us:)

So far, it's been easier for me to build a tight micro-coil than to get this blink squonking on a Reo.

I moved the short carto to another bottom feeder (non Reo) that I purchased and, honestly, it works better on that one. It doesn't seem to leak out to the catch cup and no blink squonking needed. Just squonk and the carto gets the juice. It vapes very hot ... not sure if it's due to shortness of the carto or the mod.

Reo with RM2 is a good combo. Like you, I may come back to try the short carto on Reo at another time.
