Hey all, I'm pretty new to this and it would be my first e-mod attempt. I have looked around and really love the e-pipe mod, but most companies selling their products are a bit pricey for me. I know there are some cheaper ones, but I figured it would be more fun to build one. I know the battery size I want to use (18350) and I think I am going to go with an 510 atty. The questions I have, are what would be the best tank option. I have seen some with clearomizers and DTC tanks. I'm wondering if there would be a problem with using a clearomizer, just because if the angle it would sit coming out of the bowl. A DTC tank, if I am correct, is bottom fed. So, that doesn't seem like it would be a problem. Now, from what it looks like, using a Drip tank seems to be the most popular tank. Does it really just come down to personal opinion, or is there a correct tank to use for maximum usage.

Another question I have is in regards to using a battery button from Epipemods.com V2 and V2.5 Single Battery Pipe Buttons - Pipe Care and Accessories - Pipe Supplies- Batteries, Atties, Stems, Chargers, etc. Sorry for the long link.

Do these buttons just sit on top of the battery and when you push the button, it activates the battery? I'm really not sure how they work.

Last question: Would it be better for a beginner to convert a tobacco pipe to an e-pipe or try to make their own? I've been contemplating on making my own, just because it would be different. But, I have seen some decently priced and nice tobacco pipes that seem easily convertible to vaping.

I figured there is someone out there who can really help me and thanks for all the help.

Personally I'd like to set up a pipe with a kayfun or penelope clone. As for the rest of your post, I'd like to know those things too. I've been contemplating this myself, and I'm not sure how to go about it. I found many suitable pipes on ebay, $20 to $30 range, that would fit at least an 18350, some venders are nice enough to list the chamber dimensions. After that I'm kind of lost.

Oh man, I'm not really sure. I guess it depends on how they are put together and if you can get to the parts. When I first started thinking about making a pipe, I thought about gutting one of my vapes, but I didn't know how I would hook it up to a battery that would sit in the bowl. I think it would be easier just to buy the parts and assemble them the way you want. Building your own pipe is pretty simple from the looks of it.

I'm still having a problem following you. I've seen some models of EPM and the battery sits below the keyring. How could the button sit on top of the battery and then by pressing down then button, it hits the keyring? The only way would be if the positive end of the battery is sitting on a spring. It looks like at the bottom of their buttons there is a small piece of metal, like a nipple. When you push down on the top of the button, does that nipple move down as well? Because, if so, that would clear some things up for me.

Epipemods have the Vapesafe that sits at the bottom of the bowl. On the Vapesafe is a magnet that holds the battery in place and makes the electrical connection. The batteries are positive side down and in the case of the EPM flat top batteries are recomended but not required. The buttons have a magnet on the bottom side that attaches to the negative side of the battery. When inserted, the button sits just above the keyring until pushed down. When pushed down the magnet on the bottom of the button goes up into the button. Both the buttons and the vapesafe are available at epipemods.com leaving only the keyring and 510 connector to get and hookup. I hope this all makes sense.

Okay, I think I got it now. Basically the keyring sits in between the battery and magnet. The magnet is making contact with the battery at all times and when you push the button down, that is when it makes contact with the keyring which is grounded. Right....?

I have seen the Vapsafe on their site, but they have different models. How do they differ?

Right. The button is attached to the battery at all time and is hovering just above the keyring until pushed down to make the connection. I think the Vapesafe to get is the HD which stands for Heavy Duty. In case you don't know yet the VS is a self resetting fuse, in case you have a short, it shuts the pipe down and will resume normal function as soon as the short is fixed. They are not required but I would get it, better safe than sorry.

Just to let you know I am quite the EPM fan and am working on a pipe conversion myself right now. Haven't had much time lately to finish it up. Also you may want to get a couple of forstner drill bits to size the bowl for the battery and the keyring. Here's a picture of my pipe collection so far.

That is a very nice collection. The one in the middle is my favorite. I really dig that design. If were to buy a vapesafe, how do you install it. I know on EPM pipes, they install them down at the bottom of the bowl. Do they just run their wires to the board and then appoxy the board to the bowl? Right now, I have have a male connecter running to the bottom of the bowl to act as a positive post.

Also, where did you get your pipe stems? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

DanMan........They say that a picture is worth a 1000 words.......here's one worth about buck 98......

Now.... a little information....The battery is level or just below(about a mm +/-) the ring.....The button is magnet(opposing magnets)...All the button(switch) does is close the circuit ......Always use a fuse, things happen...I know...

Their are all kinds of ways to make a pipe, and all kinds of switch's ....go to page 59 #590 in "Pipe Talk-" and look at hirize's "zepipe switch 55" for one.....

Someone in this thread asked about using a Z-Max......Your only limited by your own imagination...."Freight Train Mods" use a DNA-12; "Mad Hitter" has made some pipes with a DNA-20; Yours truly has made a pipe that uses a Kick.....

The best way to learn about all of this.....use the search engine on this forum, type in "E-Pipe Mods", about 39 pages of which about a third of the posts you can skip.....Read through "pipe talk-" also you might be surprised by what you will learn...And also ask questions...

Anyway.....End of rant...WELCOME.....to our little house...

This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much... All I gotta do now is order some parts and hopefully be done by next weekend. Depending on shipping of course.
