Hey

I'm new to vaping and I've got a few questions I'd like to ask, I've been searching round the internet for this info but it's difficult to find accurate information, so I'd like to hear a few opinions. At the moment I've just got a .....ty ecig thing, which was an impulse buy because I didn't want to smoke. I'm regretting the purchase, but it's opened my mind to the idea.

I feel it's important that you know what I want to gain from not smoking. My #1 aim is to improve health in the present term. I want to breathe like I used to, feel energetic, young etc. I want clean healthy lungs, and I don't want the poisons of 100's of chemicals constantly going through my blood. Nicotine isn't particularly bad for you in itself, it's all the other crap in the cigarettes that are the problem, so if I can get rid of them, great!

Anyway, if you could answer a few of my questions that'd be superb!

1) I've smoked for 6 years, since I was 13. I remember feeling a loss of breathing ability after around 3 weeks of smoking. Will this return?
2) Since swapping to a vap 3 days ago I've been coughing a lot, I'm told this is normal and is the lungs basically getting rid of the tar build up etc. will vaping have any negative effect on the bodys clean out of my lungs?
3) Is vaping at all bad for the lungs? Sometimes it hurts considerably more than cigarettes and in a different way. I've never felt 100% of the satisfaction a cigarette can provide, but when using a properly set up vap it comes pretty close, 95% maybe. THis ....ty ecig is maybe 50%, but it'll do for now.
4) Will my oral hygiene improve?
5) Is it possible to be as healthy as a non-smoker while still using a vap?
6) Is using a vap effective at all for complete quitting of tobacco products? I hear it can help, but if anything I'm puffing away on this thing far more than I'd smoke, convenience perhaps.
7) Answering honestly, are there any downsides to using a vap other than battery inconvenience?
8) Is there any detriment on the body in any way? With focus again being on the lungs
9) Do any of you miss smoking? Do you ever smoke on the occasional night out? how do you feel after if you do?

Essentially I'm trying to slowly remove all negative external factors from my body ie. smoking, fatty foods etc. It'll take a while to do perfectly but it's a work in process.

Many thanks!

Welcome to ECF. I smoked 47 years and have experienced a marked change in my health. I no longer cough all the time or wheeze anymore. My breathing is so much better these days and I vape a 70/30 pg/vg ratio in eliquid and have not had so much as a cold since starting to vape almost three years ago. I quit almost immediately after my first vape. I was lucky I found a good tasting eliquid so quickly. One of the hardest things for most is finding the juice that suits them. I went from dental cleanings every 4 mos due to staining to 2 times a year and don't have near the stains. I don't miss smoking at all, vaping is cleaner and tastes better. I still don't know how I was able to smoke so long. It has not been proven to be completely safe although tests so far have shown it to be much safer. Only time will tell. Buy good equipment recommended here... there are lots of good people here to help.

Welcome, and congrats on taking the first step!

In order:
1.)With exercise, I don't see why not. Your lungs, just like the rest of your body, require workout to stay in good shape. So, quitting and exercising should help bring back your lungs. I have heard stories of vapers who quit cigs and can now run marathons while still vaping.
2.)You do not need lung inhales for your body to absorb nicotine. Nicotine can be absorbed through your tounge, gums, and cheeks, so inhale into the month, hold for a second or two, exhale. You can lung inhale if you like though.
3.)Science tells us yes, simply do the the fact that you are adding moisture to your lungs. But, someone who has been following the health effects recently would be able to answer that better.
4.)Proper brushing and flossing here.
5.)Again, someone who has been following health would be better to answer this, but my cycling improved when I switched.
6.)I noticed that I was using my PV more when I started, and it was totally a convenience thing. It was on me, I didn't have to pull a lighter out, and if I didn't have time to smoke a full cigarillo, I could take a few puffs on my PV. As for stopping completely with only a PV, I did, but it's all in your mindset.
7.)Leaking juice
8.)Again, health person can answer this
9.)I don't smoke anymore, but I have been out to hookah maybe 3 times since I seriously switched. I enjoy hookah, the flavors are part of the reason I switched to e-cigs, but I have only smoked one cigar since I quit, and that was at Thanksgiving with my family, which is a tradition.

First, Welcome to ECF!!

The following are my opinions only

1. I noticed improved ability to breathe...especially with any physical activity.
2. Could be lungs healing...could be how you're inhaling. See here
3. At all bad? I would guess fresh pure air would be better. Better for you than cigarettes? I would say heck yes.
4. My teeth are whiter...as are my fingernails, and fingers.
5. ehhh...to many variables besides smoking. So I'll go with sure it's possible...but all things equal besides vaper or non-vaper, well there are antibacterial properties in the vapor and nicotine does have some positive and some negative effects, but you are inhaling stuff. I dunno, I was going for harm reduction and feel confident it's many many times better than cigarettes.
6. I quit after many failed attempts. Smoked for 15years, pack a day. See signature. You don't absorb nic the same vaping as smoking..possible you're not taking in as much as you might think. Or yes, they are more convenient.
7. Unless you're using disposable cig-a-likes it's more time consuming to have your vape ready than to pick up a fresh pack of smokes.
8. I had a smoke here and there the first couple months when I was out for drinks with my friends. My friends all still smoke, I'm not the least bit tempted any more. My vape is far superior to their icky smokes.

From my own experience, I will say that I had smoked for 18 years before I started vaping. Once I began, it was harsh on my throat and I was beginning to wonder if I could really do it. After a while of switching between vaping and smoking, I moved on to strictly vaping. I began with an evod tank and a spinner battery. That did the trick for a while but I began to notice that it didn't quite hit like I had hoped for, so I stepped up and bought a new mod with replaceable battery and an Kanger Aerotank. That is my current setup and it does the job ok. I have been almost three months now as a non smoker and I noticed a considerable difference in my health. I am more energetic, I don't cough or wheeze anymore, and I even noticed that everything smells and tastes much different than before. As time passes on, I'm sure that I will notice more changes, but for most part I do believe that I made the right choice. Honestly, I never thought I could lay down the cigs after trying and failing multiple times.

Is vaping healthy? Who knows...
I vaping less harming than smoking? Definitely.
To be healthy as non-smoker? In what area? You may have better cognitive abilities, but still a bit worse in lung health... Again, who knows today?
Drink and vape? I like it so much... It's the best thing next do not drink and vape... I'd wish I'd follow my advice...

That's for all your answers guys! You all seem so welcoming into the world of vaping, and I've heard nothing but positives. I think, that while my questions can't be fully answered at this time due to lack of known evidence, one unanimous agreement between all of you seems to be that it's noticeably better than smoking, and while I'd ideally like to quit both, this certainly seems the way forward! Many thanks guys, I'm sure it'll not be too hard to find good advice on the best way to go from here
