Finally, after my negative experiences with the gangster Peter Dew at smokenotar, I dared take the plunge and ordered a starter kit and juice from Totally Wicked. Lo-and-behold - after only 3 days, the postman delivered the parcel and I am now the proud owner of a black 901.

I was very excited and started charging one of the batteries straight away while reading the instructions. With my first drag, I realised that there is a certain technique involved, only I don't quite get it yet. I am taking some "empty" puffs first to get a bit of steam and then I take a proper drag. Is that the right way to do it? You see, sometimes I probably overdo the "revving" and end up with a huge mouthful of smoke hitting my lungs. And is it normal that the back of my throat feels a bit raw after a good vape or should I switch to lower nicotine?

Another thing I was asking myself is the following: You know how people gain weight when they give up the fags? (I'm convinced that it's not just the extra sweets they are eating - somehow cigarettes speed up your metabolism, I'm sure.) Be honest, you experienced e-smokers: any reports on extra pounds after switching from analogues to e-cigs?

Don't get me wrong, I really love my e-cig and use it all the time now. My husband nicked my spare battery and also the extra atomiser I got, so it looks like I am going to have to order another kit. The question is, should I order lower nicotine carts with it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good to hear TW looked after you, I have had good experiences with them. I am new to this too.

I found I had a little soreness for the first few days vaping but it settled down. I use 11mg liquid mostly, a little higher first thing in the morning to get myself buzzed up :)

I havent notice my appetite increasing so I hope I dont put on loads of weight

I actually have notice a little weight gain, but I have a theory.

It doesn't have so much to do with the smoking as it does with the fact that now I don't get up from my desk to go to the smoke room or outside. I always paced around while smoking analogs, and that was a majority of the excercise I got in a day. So now, since I am basically sitting in a chair all day, I have started putting the weight on.

I guess I will have to test whether or not the YMCA will allow me to vape on the treadmills :D

Or maybe I could just get off my lazy .... and walk around the block a couple times a day.

Lots of people find that they have more energy after the initial adjustment period with quitting and starting vaping so that's a good thing for encouraging exercise Alain.

Falling, did you get your money back from Smokenotar? The bloke that ran it left a message a while ago, I don't know if you saw it - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/5453-smokenotar.html

I haven't totally given up on real fags just yet, but I have noticed that I am becoming a bit of a fat ........ Instead of smoking the real deal, I'm eating more, I didn't think this would happen after switching to ecigs.

Well i am sure your feeling better even with some weight on
Thanks for sharing

My father gained a lot of weight when he quit smoking analogs. He doesn't E smoke. He did however say that the food tasted so much better that he had to have more and more. Could this be the same with vaping? Maybe not as much junk coating your taste buds, therefore more eating. I've smoked since I was a teenager, and will be 45 in May. I'd wonder what food would taste like it if I'd never smoked?

Skull--I wonder that myself after all those years. I think the weight gain really goes to replacing the oral fix of giving up smoking which we do not have to deal with with vaping. I also think that is the reason why most people find that switching to vaping is so easy and give the analogs the boot much easier. I know now after many months of vaping that the taste and smell of analogs are vial to me and never what another one again--EVER--Sun:)

Sun, I know what you mean about the analog stench. I still smoke analogs, and when I used to get up after a night of heavy boozing I craved a cigarette. Man, the smell of my girlfriend cigarette would make me gag. Yet I still crave one! My 18 year old son despises cigarette smoke, yet we have smoked around him since he was born. Poor guy!

Yes, the oral fixtation is A large part of my habit. I am kind of the jumpy type, and don't like to sit around much. The more idle time I have, the more I smoke. I quit drinking six months ago, and it's been a ...... I went from 1 1/2 packs a day to three packs a day. I hope this E smoking works out. I must say though that I was in the hospital for a kidney problem five years ago. I didn't smoke for a week, and I could tell the difference in the taste of food. My first real meal was lasagne, oh my god, I did not know that it was so, so wonderful! My first bottle of pop gave flashbacks to childhood! It was like I was sitting at granmas kitchen table again. Sorry, I'm rambling. Thanks!

welcome falling to the forum. for me weight gain from the switch was unnoticed.
however i think most of the weight control was only in analog smokes.
also for me a good hit with my 901 is produced by direct drag and not mouth vaping it.
if you are gonna mouth vape it i would suggest a one sec warm up pre puff and a slight draw for vaping to much and you will get alot and it takes some adjustment to find the right technic that works for you

Thanks, Kate, I just read that post. I don't quite buy it, though, because Peter Dew was still editing the smokenotar website well into December and there was no reply to any of my e-mails, and the phones were disconnected as well. That's the worst of it really - being totally ignored when you have valid concerns. I did, however, get my money back through my credit card chargeback - thank you for asking.

As for my other questions, I'll just work on my vaping technique and maybe order something less strong.

What you've been saying about having more energy seems to be true, so I'm not too worried about the weight thing. I might even invest some of that extra energy into a spot of spring-cleaning and burn off some of those calories. No weight gain and a clean house - that's what I call a win/win situation!

Another observation I made: I've been feeling a bit light-headed (in a good way), almost euphoric. But that might be due to hormones or maybe it's the spring weather?

Falling, those "empty puffs" are what we call primer puffs. The heating coil needs a little time to heat up. You're doing it right, and don't worry about doing too many. Sometimes I give it more primer puffs than necessary just to play with the vapor. No harm.

I gained weight a couple months after I started, but I had broken a toe and was off my feet at the time, so it wasn't connected to the e-cigs.
