Questions on plastics

I'm one of many who have tried to reduce plastic 'ingestion', for want of a better word. Some leach chemicals when in contact with acidic or fatty foods/beverages, some leach when exposed to heat, and others just by repeated use.I like the PTB mod, it works great--and I realize they're designed to be exposed to heat--but then, so is styrofoam and that is unsafe. So my questions are: is there a natural wicking material (wool?) that does well exposed to heat? How safe *is* the nylon(?) in the PTB? Does anyone know of a non-plastic cartridge and are any in the works? What type of plastic are the cartridges made of? I'm assuming #7. And what about the little cups inside the cartridges? Are metal cartridges even advisable? It would seem that would make them more 're-usable friendly'.

Good question. Since I drip, I'm not familiar with various types of filler people have tried. Will give it a bump though to hopefully get a response.

Have you thought about dripping at all? Drip tips can be found in stainless steel, andonized aluminum, or delrin. They are basically a hollow tube that replaces the cart allowing you to drip through them to the atty. Just a thought.

Natural is not necessarily good. Burning wool produces poisonous products also. Try and keep from getting the parts in contact with the heater HOT.

No, I haven't thought about it but only because I'm less than two weeks into this whole vaporizing thing and suffering from information overload :)I appreciate the forum folks, they help me sift the info and sort it in my head.

I've read and been told that with using natural fiber, you take a chance of inhaling little pieces of it & there's a chance of some not-so-good things happening.
I always figured we're taking a chance with most filler---including polly.
I've tried wool and it's just as good, or better than some fillers. I've also tried cotton as a plug on my little model, it worked great. I was just careful to keep it wet.
But not wanting to get fibers in my lungs, I kept searching and got away with fillers altogether. I now use the SYI method when I'm not dripping.
Here's link to it and a bunch of others.

I, too, would recommend dripping---it simplifies life.
