Hi Everyone,
Received the 510 yesterday. This is my third e-cigarette. I have Smoke 51, Smoke Everywhere and Joye 510. Got a great deal online, $40 including shipping, unboxed.
It's so much better than the other two. I just purchased the Smoke Everywhere last week at the mall. I find that the Smoke 51 and Smoke Everywhere are the same product.
Now, the 510 is so different. Have read reviews on this forum. The atomizer does get hot. I'm hoping I don't have to replace it too often.
Been a smoker over 40 yrs. and I think the 510 will help me at least cut down. It came with 5 high carts, 2 batteries, 2 atomizers and the charging unit.
At times though, I' getting leakage of the fluid in my mouth. Yuk.

Also, when I first vapor, it makes me cough. Is this normal? What is causing it? Any suggestions as to how to make the atomizer last longer, the fluid leaking, etc. would really be appreciated. This is a great forum. Have learned a lot.

It sounds like you may be puffing on your 510 too much in rapid succession. In that case not enough juice will be able to suturate the atomizer. The atomizer gets hot and the vapor that you do get is harsh and makes you cough.

The 510 is not like an analog. You probably don't want to puff on it continuously like you might with an actual cigarette.

I meant to say that I have a 510 too. I've been doing the e-cig thing only since about the 10th of March. After smoking for the better part of 40 years the 510 seems to have gotten me past that. Stick with it, read the forums. There's a bunch of stuff to learn and plenty of helpful people here to help you. Welcome to the forum and good luck!

I tried what was suggested, and it's better. It's just the first draw that makes me cough. Guess I'm just used to analogs.
Only have smoked 3 so far today. Goal is 0.

I haven't had any trouble with the battery not lasting long. Also, the liquid seems to last a long time, 2-3 drops. I just put the juice in the same cartridge that is depleted. That's what I did with the Smoke 51 and Smoke Everywhere. Is this okay to do?

Congrats on the 510! Here is the part of the forum with 510 Model specific discussion. You should be able to find answers to most questions there.
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/joye-510/

If I try to direct draw vapor into my lungs I about cough out a lung. I have to draw it into my mouth first, then inhale. I never direct inhaled ciggys so don't direct inhale vapor. Tried it... yikes.

Most folks cough for a few days. I suspect you may be getting better vapor on the 510 than you did with the SE/51. If you don't stop in a week, check into the forum. Could be one of many things.

Keep the atty good and wet with a drop on the atomizer bridge each time you top off the cartridge (hope you bought liquid??)! It will keep you from getting a nasty taste. If the atty feels hot against your bottom lip, you should give it a rest. Everyone hits them too much when they first get them! LOL

What you get into your mouth is most likely not liquid proper, but condensed water with traces of liquid in it. Does not taste good, but is not dangerous, although if it happens very often, you could get hickups. As you have already found out, that is going to be considerably less, if you take long, slow puffs, instead of the short, hard ones you take when you smoke an analog.
You also can blow out this water: Take the cart, out a piece of paper towel in front of it, and blow though the end you usually puff at. Not a bad idea if it doesn't vape quite as it should.

Coughing is also normal: First, you get it in the very beginning, when your lungs are not yet used to the vape. And second, many people get it after a week or so of vaping, in that case, it's your lungs trying to get out the stuff you put into them for years. That will stop after a few days or, in rare cases, weeks, and is of course a good thing.

You can get considerably more liquid out of the cart with a straw mod. There are many cart mods out there, but I found this is the most simple one which already gives you great results. The tube of most cotton swabs works great.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Vaping and ECF.

I am still using the same 510 batt and atty that I started with in Oct. 2009. Of course, I have added more so I could vape several flavors at once. At first I used the different colored leds to tell the difference and now I have Platinum, Copper, Black, and a new mega Platinum to tell the differences and to have one batt and atty going while the other batts are charging.

The fluid in the mouth is very disconcerting. The solutions I have worked are:
Vape slowly as detailed in posts above.

Don't overfill atty when you top off.

Use Blue Foam Mod.
Use Scotty's mod. (I ordered from him).
Use cig filters cut in half and slimmed a little.
Drip (just ordered Shorty from T-Tip Manufacturing.

Use high nic so I get satisfied with slower vaping and have 1 tobacco flavor going to quiet the voices in my mind that want an analog.

Remember that this is an individual process and does require some attention to our bodies as we heal...meaning there may be coughing, gnashing of teeth, those "voices", and the investment in time and a lot fewer $$$$$ than analogs.

Good luck and I acknowledge you for taking this giant step for yourself.

Vape On!!!!

I bought a 510 a while back. The cartridges were terrible, it would leak and then hit a dry spot. I went to direct dripping and LOVED it. just 2-3 drops right on the atomizer, put the empty cart back on and vape. I later wanted to try cartomizers, so I wouldn't have to drip so often (3 drops lasts about a good 10-15 hits for me). I bought a cartomizer adapter for a few bucks and I love it! I now carry 3 cartomizers of different flavors and my battery in my trusty little pcc, wherever I go. Every couple days i boil em and refill em. It's worked out great for me. So yeah, that's my recommendation either drip (which i still do) or get a cartomizer adapter. I haven't went back to cigarettes since.

my 510 atty's last for months but I've found that replacing the atty every 3 to 6 weeks makes the vaping experience a whole lot better. It's not worth dragging a $5 part into the ground. I run one atty til it dies without ever cleaning it, but I suggest running 2 vaporizers at a time so one can cool off while you use the other. Juice in the mouth is from dragging to fast and hard. Took me a couple weeks to hit the perfect drag after smoking so long...................good luck

YEah what everyone esle said lol
Its a bit of a learning curve but not a HUGE one. Just gotta pull on it longer and slower - never fast and hard like actual smoking. Like another poster here I dumped messing with cart fillings after a week and went direct dripping - I find it better for ME - YMMV.
My attys have also been long lasting lil' buggers but after about 4 months they really start to drop off and needs replacing. I've only had one totally die and that was this week (it was 4 months old so I figure I had my money's worth lol).
Some pro -tips:
When changing attys, clean off threads of both atty and battery threads. Blow atty out (I do it from the cart side as it easier - take cart off for this).
When using storng strong flavors like mint/menthol/cinamon set aside a special atty just for that flavor - the very strong ones tend to linger and flavor everything else. This can be great or hideous.
Use a different atty for fruit flavors for the same reason.
Get more attys (lol)
Never be without supplies like juice, spare batteries or attys. I get all mine from cignot.com but many suppliers sell the parts for 510 as its popular.
Most PV parts don't last years and years - expect to replace bits as you go. They are realtively cheap so this isn't a huge issue (less than a carton of smokes usually).
Be open to different flavors - sometimes you'll find something too awesome to miss!
If you buy anything else get a PT or a PCC - they are invaluable (and the battery life of the 510 is notoriously awful if you vape a lot) They charge up fast though.

And welcome to the forums :)

Thank you everyone for your replies. I envy you all just vaping. Wish I could say that.
I'm still confused on some things. Direct dipping, PC, PCC, cartomizers to name a few. This is what I do and have done with the other e-cigarettes.
I started vaping last Oct. and quit because the Smoke 51 made so much noise while inhaling. The SE brand does too and I just purhased that one last week. But the 510 is so much lighter, got the "flat" ended cartridges and is quieter. I just put 3 drops on the dried cartridge. I have used only one cartridge and just keep adding the fluid. Yesterday, I put a drop on the atomizer wick. Don't know if this all correct.
I ordered the 510 on Cignot. Should I order another kit to have on hand, or just order atomizers and batteries? I don't want to get disgusted and give up doing this. I started this to cut down analogs. But have seen so many quit is uplifting. I'm using high liquid I bought at the mall when I purchased the SE. Was $20 for the bottle.

I used to have a loose cough with analogs. But my cough now is dry. I just hope I'm not doing more damage. Wish you all lived near me in Ohio. I sure could use some "visual" help. I have looked at many videos online, but didn't get much info. They mostly talk about how much vaper they get. I'm the only one in my family that smokes. Hubby quit cold turkey 20 yrs. ago. I have never smoked in front of any of my family either. So can't really ask them for help.

Again, thank you all for your replies. Really appreciate it

You could order another kit if you have the available $$. it won't hurt to have extra batteries.
One suggestion that was offered to me that I have come to appreciate. Go one full day with "vaping" the e-cig only. Don't start out with a regular cigarette and then switch over. Just one full day. You should notice a difference in your experience, fuller flavor, etc.
Folks here have suggested direct dripping. Do you have manual batteries (with a button on the side) or automatic (no button)? Dripping directly on the atomizer generally works best with manual batteries, I have been told.
Don't know your agenda today, but I'll be around the forum most all day if you 510 questions. If I don't know the answer, I can probably direct you to it.
Hang in there. With help from the folks here, you can make this work!

As mentioned above.... don't drip an automatic battery ! as their not sealed and you'll end up ruining the auto switch.

A tip to avoid getting juice in the mouth (beyond the already mentioned of slower even puffs) is to remember that when your putting the cart back onto the atomizer to NOT press it on with your thumb over the mouthpiece hole.... it causes pressure within the assembled pieces if you do, and forces juice into the vent passages on the sides of the cart.

If you've happened to do this, you can remove the cart (have a tissue in hand), block the center hole that contains the stuffing and blow through the mouthpiece. You'll notice juice forces out of those cart air passages on the side that you can just wipe (repeat the process until no more comes out).

You can also take a paper clip end, stick it in the mouthpiece hole, and jiggle that cap out. Then with your tissue, dab at any juice sitting in there to dry it up, and simply press that cap back in place firmly (this will also allow you to better understand how the cart works by visually seeing the passage route).

Hope that helps..... don't worry, you like all of us will have tons of questions starting out, and then again tons more if or when you progress onto other stages of vaping, ie: DIY juice making, PV mods, etc etc etc, lol.....

edit: almost forgot, make sure you have spare parts and juice (at least 2 months worth) to avoid either running out, a part failure, or an "out of stock" situation with a supplier or slow shipping delays.

I always smoke a analog first thing in morning. Today, I was going to just vape, but didn't. I wll do that tomorrow on your suggestion.
I have a manual and auto battery. In fact, last night the manual one was dead after charging. So I wrote Cignot and they are sending me a replacement and to send my old one back. But asked if I could just buy the one they are sending. Only $12. So I will have 3 batteries. When you say directly on the atomizer, is that the wick at the opposite end of the gold part? Sorry I'm not "getting" the dripping, and the other terms that are used. There's so many different e-cigarettes and it's so hard to determine which one is the best. But this 510 is a lot better than the other two I have. I could have bought 3 510s for what it cost for the Smoke Everywhere. Lesson learned.
Thanks for your interest.

Greg, I still don't know what dripping is. I just put 3 drops on a used mouthpiece. Then I put one on the end of the atomizer. Don't know if that hurts anything though. I understand your explanation of covering the mouthpiece hole when putting it onto the atomizer. With my other two e-cigarettes, they told me to take out the "cotton" of the mouthpiece to apply the juice. Said this keeps it from leaking. It doesn't get down into the sides of it. I love the throat hit with the 510. Didn't get that at all with the other two brands. When I lay the 510 down on a table, there's some juice left on it.
I wish I could get "satisfied" just using the 510. Sometimes I want to light up right after using the 510. Duh! I have really cut down a lot though. 40+ years of smoking is a long time to quite completely, but am surprised how the 510 satisfies me most of the time.
Also, sometimes, I'm still getting that nasty taste. I top it off then and it makes it better.
How long can I keep refilling the cartridge. I've only used one of the five that came with the kit. And I shouldn't take the "cotton" out of the cart to add the drops? Oh I could go on and on. Sorry!

You can read about "dripping" here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/678-drysmoking-dripping.html

In an earlier post on your thread here, Hellen gave you a link to click that takes you to the specific 510 discussion forum topics.... I suggest you read it through as its very informative and for the most part will address many of your questions.

Also, whenever you have your device apart, always give it a quick wipe on the outside of the cart, and on any threaded parts to maintain a good electrical connection.

Concentrate on "reduction" more than quitting. You'll find more satisfaction (mentally) if your having successes rather than what you may deem as a failure with totally quitting right off the bat of analogs.

Many people quit after a few weeks once they find the juice strength and flavour they crave to replace the analogs and satisfy their need. Others manage to quit right away, some months later, and some never do but are happy in the reduced intake of burning tobacco and view it as a successful "harm reduction" approach. Its definately a personal goal and challenge, and most definately not a miracle invention albeit the best one out there yet.

I personally am one of the "harm reduction" crowd. I've been vaping over a year with the initial intention of not quitting but reducing for which I feel successful at achieving a reduction of my previous near 3 packs a day down to under a pack per day, and I pat myself on the back every day for it too !! Perhaps one day I'll also join the crowd of analog quitters, but I'm (at this point in my hectic life), very satisfied with what I've achieved to date.

If you are getting a nasty taste that is corrected by topping up your cart with juice or adding a drop or two onto the atomizer bridge (the meshed part you see when looking into the atomizer where your cart stuffing touches when the cart is in place), that tells me your running your cart too dry and the taste is the atomizer overheating giving you that "burnt" taste.

I implore you to go to that link that Hellen provided and read up. And I wholehearted believe with a little patience and a lot of reading that you'll quickly pick up on the do's, do not's, and probably shouldn'ts to get you moving forward with your 510 (which is a GREAT device).

Best of luck & wishes, and most importantly....

VapeOn,
Greg

I read the link that had Hellen mentioned. Very informative. I will have to re-read and since I know a little more, I'll be able to understand it better.
Congratualtions on cutting down so much. That's wonderful. Keep up the great work. I find I'm sleeping better. I've smoked for so long and have anxiety over this. Wake up thinking about what's to come. Has made me very depressed for the last 5 yrs. So this has given me some hope and, yes, helped my mental state. Going to Puerto Rico on vacation in 3 weeks and this will definitely help with the cravings. Nobody else smokes (husband's mother was born there, passed 20 yrs. ago-that's why we are going) of the 6 family members that is going. I hope to vape in the restroom at the airport, but know i will be very nervous. I might get arrested. OH NO! So if you see this in the paper "Woman arrested for vaping at Cleveland airport" that would be me.
Think I will print out all this information for reference.
Just added juice, and am coughing.
I appreciated the help I have received. I know I can do this!!!!!

Regarding the coughing......

Make sure your sipping a cold drink to keep your mouth and throat wet/moist (preferably water most of the time). The PG or VG in the juice tends to dry you out, and you'll find once its absorbed that you'll need to hydrate yourself more.

The "first of the day" vape is the one that gets me the most !! Then after a few hits, its smooth sailing (unless of course your too dry on the atomizer, cause THAT will make you cough regardless, lol).

I doubt you'll get arrested, lol.... you'll learn to "stealth vape" soon enough since the vaper doesn't linger and you can always exhale into your sleeve without worries of others seeing (take a peek in here: vaping in public
