I just mixed up a new batch of juice. Trying to get something like a chocolate peppermint patty. I've never used chocolate flavors before so this is an experiment. My question is how long do chocolates need to steep? As a shake and first vape, I get the chocolate and peppermint right off. I've worked with mints before and mint is mint right off the get go. Will the chocolate get better as it steps and melds with the fresh cream and marshmallow? I mean I would think so. Frankly, it doesn't taste bad at all, very vapable. I can tell by the color its gonna be a coil gunker, I accept that. But steep time on this is a question. Anybody else worked with chocolate flavors? Would some sweetener bring out some more chocolaty notes? I didnt add any. Yet.

My Rule of DIY was to Always try a New Recipe about 15 Minutes after it is Mixed. Then Try it every 3 Days (or so) for about 2 Weeks.

The Taste will Change. How Much and in the Direction your want it to? That's Hard to Say.

But the Key is knowing what it Tasted Like 15 Minutes after it was Mixed.

Also, having a Ball Park feel for How much one type of Flavoring Changes or Doesn't Change will help you do other Recipes with that same Flavor. Or when something like a Dark or White Chocolate might be Better (or some Combination of Both) than just using a Milk Chocolate.

BTW - To Me, Sweetener is going to Help any Dessert Recipe.

Have you ever Heard of someone making Candy or Cookies or a Cake and not putting Sugar in the Mix?

@Coyote628, I don't know what chocolate you're using, if I missed it sorry.

I've been working on a few different recipes with a mix of different chocolates in each (along with other flavors). I've been using FLV milk chocolate, VT White chocolate, FLV white chocolate, WF chocolate chunks, MB Glamour Chocolate and VT Dark chocolate all with success. IMO none of those have the fake chocolate taste that some do.

What I have noticed is that they do blend in nicely with the other flavors I'm using with a steep of 2 weeks. A couple recipes I have going it was about 3-4 weeks. I don't know that there is a set amount of steep time for them. If you like how it tastes after a week then it's right for you.

Like @zoiDman, I test my juice after mixing and roughly every 3-4 days after. The taste does change over time. And I agree that knowing what it tastes like after mixing is important.

I've used 0.25% FLV Sweet Coconut as sweetener with chocolates. It works and you won't taste the coconut. A little vanilla will help your chocolate. 0.25-0.5% of something like FA Madagascar Vanilla. If you want your chocolate to be of the milk choc variety try adding 1% VT milk fresh.

I rarely use sweeteners as other flavors in my recipes will bring the sweetness I desire (depending). When I do use one I prefer FLV Sweetness because it's very transparent and doesn't impart any flavor into my recipe.

True, that. And I did go ahead and add the sweet to it.

Not sure what type of Sweetener you use? But I like TFA Sweetener. Which is basically Sucralose.

TFA Sweetener has Three Huge pluses to me.

One is you can use as much as you want, and it just keeps getting Sweeter. Whereas something like Cotton Candy can add some Sweetness, but after that it just starts to taste like Chemical Meh.

Two is you need Very Little to make a Recipe Sweet. I'm talking a Handful of Drops per 60ml. So a 4oz Bottle of TFA Sweeter will last a Long LONG Time.

Third there is No "Steeping" Time required. So it can be Added to Taste. And since it doesn't "Steep", there isn't any real change in the Level of Sweetness.

Of course, without Dark there is No Light. And the Dark is that Heavily Sweetened e-Liquids junk up a Coil Faster. But a Moderately Sweetened e-Liquid isn't that Bad.

And Most who do DIY Choose Taste over Maximum Coil Life anyway.

Don't know what fresh cream you used. As as example I've found FA Fresh Cream needs time to steep in a mix. IMO it does well with about a 2 week steep. YMMV

Also marshmallow, depending how much you used and which brand, will impart sweetness in your recipe. With a good steep you may not need any additional sweetener. Again it all depends what you are aiming for with your recipe.

No Doubt. That is also Why it is Never a good idea to use Grocery Store Sucralose "Based" Sweeteners.

Because almost Always they contain Bulking Agents and Fillers to make the serving Size something more Manageable for the average cook.

No, its TFA. The right stuff. And by the way, this batch of juice, though I'm sure will get better with steeping, it tastes quite awesome right now. I swear its spot on junior mints. It's so close to that taste I'm just waiting for someone to reference Kramer and junior mints.:D

Right On.

It's Nice to Bag a Recipe right out of the gate without having to do a Bunch of Tweaking to it.

Now Make Sure you Write It Down. LOL.
I did lol. Not my first rodeo. I haven't mixed in better than a year but when I was, I had several that came out winners right off the start. Lucky? Yeah a little but on the other hand, I have a keen sense of smell and taste since I gave up smoking. And I do cook a lot so recipes for anything I usually go with what looks right. But I do write down juice mixes, no way I could pull one off from memory. I did once mix on the fly with no recipe at all, just eyeballed everything in a hurry one morning before work. Even that was damn decent lol. So I figure I've got a knack for it. It's really not that hard to make a good vape juice though. Did I mention junior mints? These things are delicious.

The Reason I mentioned it was years ago I Toiled on a Recipe off n' on for Months. I Finally got it Exactly where I wanted it. It was Almost the perfect Delaware Punch.

But when I went to back to Finalize my Records, the Base Flavor Blend wasn't Clear. And there were Cryptic Notes with Circles and Arrows about Adding More of This and Less of That.

But I Couldn't remember if when I did it it made it Better? Or if I tried it and it Didn't Work? So when I tried to Replicate the Flavor Base, and then added the Finishing Flavors, it Didn't Taste right.

So I ended up Stuffing all the Notes into an Envelope and putting them in the Back of DIY my drawer. And I never made Delaware Punch Again.

:-x

    What chocolate are you using?

I've recently played with a couple of chocolates, aiming for an Oreo Ice Cream mix. In one mix I use FLV Cream and Cookies 2.5%, with CAP Chocolate Fudge Brownie 0.5%. I discovered by adding 0.25% FLV Milk Chocolate, that it has an uncanny ability to smooth out all the rough edges of CAP Chocolate Fudge Brownie (CFB)

I taste my mixes as a S&V, and then taste test them every 3-4 days, making notes of any differences. CAP CFB tastes pretty bad as a S&V, but after a good week, the throat hit has gone, and it becomes a smooth rich chocolate.

Sweetener? I have a massive sweet tooth, so I always add in 0.5% of FLV Sweetness or 0.5% CAP Super Sweet.

Flavor art cocoa and flavor apprentice double chocolate clear are my chocolates. This seems to give a rich dark chocolate flavor with the cocoa at 3% and the double chocolate at 4%. Peppermint at 3.5% marshmallow and fresh cream at 2% each. I have a weird habit of steep-vaping which means I'll make a batch this size and vape soon as I'm done. In the 2 or 3 weeks it takes me to vape 120ml, the last certainly tastes different than the first. And right now the first is tasting really good. And I just realized that I have minted my fireluke 2, meaning it will always smell like mint a little bit now. I've got a couple new rta's on the way from element vape. Ordered myself a hellvape x heathen dead rabbit rta and a couple Uwell Fancier rta/rda which I'm kinda excited to try both. The Fancier was only 11 bucks and it can be an rta or rda. Since these were cheap I ordered two. Now, if I get one more liter of nic on the way, I'll be set up for the next 20 yrs. River supply sent me an email basically assuring me flavorings are gonna be available anytime I need. They are just about finished with all the applications or something like that but flavors I will be able to get. I like river supply and they are the only place I've ever ordered DIY supplies from since I started DIY. My mixing sessions have been somewhat sporadic over the last 3 years but in light of what may happen soon, I'm confident that I will have something that I like and love to vape for years to come. Even my dragonfruit milk is a recipe I want to continue to work on and improve. It was interesting enough in the first rendition but definitely could use tweaking and refining which I'm sure I can pull off too. In the foreseeable future, I'll be making new things that I wont mind sharing if anyone is interested enough to join me in my madness:D.
