Questions regarding how to evaluate priorities other than price: VV APV (Provari?) vs. mechanical mod (???) + VV/VW device (Kick/Crown?)

Hi everyone! :)

I'm new to this forum and I'd really appreciate some feedback regarding priorities when choosing a setup. I've been thinking about what I think is important to me when selecting a device to purchase, but though I've used several friends' setups I don't currently have one of my own.

What's important to me:

  • Health - I'd prefer to stick to high quality metals/glass rather than plastics, etc.
  • Absolutely no leaking - Ewww...
  • Size - I'm a small person with small hands and would prefer not to look like I'm wielding a weapon - people already think my Nexus 4 is a Note 2
  • Side button - For whatever reason I feel pretty strongly about this. Is that weird?
  • Design/Aesthetics - I'm willing to pay top $ for something gorgeous. I'd love something sleek and feminine!
  • Compatibility / Maintenance - I'd still consider a great hybrid. That said, my state has already made some moves to try to "regulate" the industry fairly harshly, so something that would be easy to repair myself with commonly available parts is a plus. Standard batteries like 18350 would be great.
  • Durability / build quality - Coordination isn't my strong suit. Besides, who wants to spend a lot of money on something and have it break?
  • Availability - Knowing what's theoretically possible is great, but availability in the near future is also a concern.
  • VV / VW - One would be as good as the other to me, but I think as I'm getting into the groove of this thing it might be handy?

What isn't important to me:
  • Cost - I get paid well and consider it worth a good amount of $ not to enrich someone else to kill me with cigarettes.
  • Learning curve - I grok Ohm's law, I have a Fluke multimeter, and I'm not afraid to build or rebuild anything. (However, I'd rather not be screwing with something all the time just for the sake of screwing with it.)
  • Large batteries and delivery systems - I'm pretty much a "social smoker" when I'm out with my friend who smoke, so I mainly need the battery to last for an evening out and don't mind carrying juice and one spare battery if necessary. (This is also why size and appearance are priorities - it's doing dual-duty as accessory!)
Are my priorities somewhat reasonable, or am I asking for too much or placing value where it's unimportant? If this list resonates with you, which mods do you think I should be considering?
Thank you all!

it looks like you scared everyone away!

There are some really sleek hybrids out there, good luck trying to buy one. They are always "out of stock". The general word is to put yourself on a list and wait. The Provari mini sounds like where you are headed, small, reliable and gets the job done and they are available.
What's the problem with plastic? You are not eating it, or consuming it in any way. It is very functional and durable. I own at least a dozen different brands of atomizers and I still end up using my vivi nova's, (plastic tank). They vape well, they are very easy to refill and they do not leak. I do not know if I dare say this: but I use them more than my z-atty's. I think maybe they do not look as "cool", but that really does not bother me. (function over form).
It does not really matter where the button is, you will get used to anything within a day or 2. In the beginning I used the automatics, why would I want a button? Like I said, a couple of days, it becomes second nature.

Thanks for your response! Good to know that this is pretty much standard operating procedure. On the horizon, it seems like the Zenesis 2 Carto-Hybrid could be a pretty nifty device...

I could even buy it locally! :w00t:

Plastic can cloud and discolor, and as you said it doesn't look as cool. Form is important to me where function isn't compromised, so it's more that I see the question as, "what's the problem with boro glass?" I will absolutely keep your perspective in consideration so as not to overly limit my choices, though - thank you!

I guess what I'm worried about is that it seems like it would be weirdly uncomfortable to have to hit a button repeatedly with your pinky. Maybe this isn't actually the case with practice though?

I be the second to say ProVari mini. I can only speak to my experience, I have the full size ProVari, and it is a solid all metal device. Has the side button and as far as using the menu it is pretty straight forward. Ohm's law is handy so that you do not over amp or under watt your attachments. It will not tell you what volts you should use so a little math gets you where you need to be. If you do not want to go down that path though just get a quality prebuilt attachment and then you can for the most part just fire and forget with minor up or down adjustments to you voltage.

Build quality imo is better than any device I have seen yet, only some mechanicals come close to the same level, again no plastic except the view window and button. It also delivers one of the best consistent power to whatever you attach to it, I have a few others and they are just not as "smooth" with the power.

I have had mine for two of the three months that I have been on the vapor and off the cigarettes and am very pleased with it. I am now starting into RDA's and use it to check my ohm's (I need to get a good meter) and it works flawlessly.

Well these are just my thoughts and experiences with the ProVari, I am sure there are many other devices that others can speak for but if I lost it I would not get anything until I ordered a new one.

Hope this helps a little and welcome to the forums! (edit: well when I started typing I would have been the "second" to suggest ProVari :p)

How about a Reo ..... Google reos mods
I have looked at them, and you're absolutely correct - they fit the bill. My only issue is the way they look. I'm not even sure this would be much of an issue if there were more of the color options currently available for purchase. I'll keep an eye on the web page and the vendor forum though in case more become available.

I'm very impressed by what I've read about the durability of this mod, and the design, while no-frills, seems top-notch. There are definitely a lot of superfans, which speaks very well for it and the company (in my eyes)!

Thank you. :)

Build quality is a big deal to me, and this is one of the biggest things drawing me to the Provari (from what I've seen so far on these forums, Reddit, and video reviews). It's also attractive, especially in the satin stainless. The upcoming polished stainless and red colors are pretty fresh too.

I think that's also what appeals to me about the idea of a mechanical, though I have exactly zero experience with them in practice. Visions of grandeur, anyone? :p

Hope this helps a little and welcome to the forums!

backwards....

the people on the youtube videos seem to be very comfortable hitting a bottom button. I don't have one, so I do not know for sure.

I find "atomizers" are disposable. So if there is an issue with one, I buy another. I have played with re-buildables. It is not really a big deal re-coiling. I have had issues with stainless wicks leaking when the unit is upside down or on it's side. I have also had issues with glass tanks leaking. I am too impatient to fill a carto, dripping is a full time job. I just fill the vivi's and vape. I think there are glass versions, but glass tends to leak on me.

Hmm, I think I'm beginning to see what you mean about plastic vs. other options. Leaking is bad, especially when it's gross and sticky!

Gross? Only if you're vaping essence of moose but. Well, there are some that smell really nasty.
Sticky? You can bet your bippy on that one! Q-tips & wet naps are your friends! LOL!

Kanger ProTank. NOT the fancy pancy of the bunch, but it is glass and stainless steel. Plus it's a bottom coil which means no dry hits or tipping like a Vivi/top coil.
Oh.. just thought of this!

If you haven't found it yet, grab a drool bib and head over to this thread. There is some very and I mean VERY nice vaping gear!!
Pictures of your setup
