So, I am new to this vaping thing, and loving it. Problem is, I don't have my own e-cig yet (waiting for it to be delivered) and I chain vape like a mad woman. For more Vape happiness, I ordered some E-juice from totally wicked, in 11 mg strength, and of course there's the original carts that are "medium" from blu.

My question is, out of sheer curiosity, how likely am I to do serious harm to myself regarding these nicotine levels? It makes me some dang nervous handling the e liquid, or accidentally getting some on my tongue, or fingers when filling or vaping.

Now, If I'm using some "kitten dose" and ya'll are laughing your asses off at my n00bness haha, thats fine....... but really, I have no experience with this.

Will I poison myself horribly? If i drip and chain vape these will I off myself...... making my husband wonder wtf i'm on the foor clutching an ecig? LOL Any info would help.

If you get some on your hands just wash it off, if you get a little in your mouth just spit it out. It's when you get to much higher levels that you can run into some very real problems but if the numbers I've read are correct a marlboro red is about 18mg. You don't want to drink it, get it in your eyes, etc... just use a little care. As far as ODing from vaping you would definately feel something unpleasant happening to you long before it killed you, nauseau, headache, that sort of thing.

I really don't think you need to worry about "offing" yourself, lol. I was confused about nicotine levels at first also. I ended up going with 18 mg strength which some vendors consider medium strength and some consider strong. After reading these forums a while, I realized that many folks actually would recommend an even higher strength to begin with. I stuck with the 18 mg though since it seemed to work for me.

A little common sense is all that's needed to handle the liquids. I find myself washing my hands after handling the bottles, mainly because getting on my hands leaves my hands sticky. I have not noticed any side effects from getting it on my hands. I was not thrilled the first time my cart leaked and I got some e-juice on my lips though. The taste was pretty yucky and it left my lips numb. I've been pretty careful since then to avoid overfilling carts (which I only use to test new flavors) and have switched to using a cartomizer with a drip tip attached. I have had zero leakage into the mouth/lips since making the change.

At 11mg you will have no problems, handle it safely but don't be scared of the juice.

What not to do....I was sitting happy refilling some carts, sample bottles for travel,
and had 10mL bottles of 30mg open with the drip tips off. I was carefully screwing
on all the child-proof top to keep from spilling. My mistake, dripping at the same time
as filling,, took a 10mL bottle unscrewed the top and without the drip tip on
dumped it into my atty, and on my hands, down my forarms.......

My first thought was "how am I going to get it back in the bottle!"
It then dawned on me to wash it off, (slow learner), upside was I didn't crave an
analog or vaping for a couple hours.. but no ill effects.

Thanks so much for the replies....... as a big ol' newb really, the nicotine stuff is rather scary. I'd rather err on the side of caution, and will likely stick to lower nic levels. That's okay for me, since I quit analogs a year ago, and was nic free for all that time, vaping started only a few days ago. I think the low levels are gonna be a safer and easy bet for me.

Tiari,

Messing with Nic scares me some as well. I just wash my hands whenever I get any on me. I think the major concern is when you DIY....those bottles of straight nic are the big fear for me. However, there are tons here who DIY and would probably get a chuckle out of my post as well. lol

That being said, I haven't ruled out DIY in the future though!!! Baby steps for me....

You can start DIY using just 30 -36mg unflavored juice, or even less if you don't vape that high
or don't want to have to adjust nic levels.

DIY juicers DO NOT USE straight nic, which would be 1000mg/mL
:danger:(there's a thread about the dangers of this):danger:

Mixing your own flavors is a kick, make it as strong or weak as you want, and create your own.
No more stalking the mailman waiting to try a new flavor, just start with small batch 3-5mL
because you have to "eat your own cooking"

Thanks for clearing that up Stosh. Maybe I won't be so leary of it now. I have a baby and a puppy so the thought of straight nic scared the bejesus out of me. Good to know that isn't the case! No, I haven't ventured over to the DIY side of life yet. Again, thanks!

If you quit a year ago, why not give the 0 nic a try?

I agree with pete. If you've been off analogs for a year, 0 nic makes sense. In fact, that is my ultimate goal.

That's a good question, and hopefully I can answer and clear that up. I am in withdrawals from weaning off of Lexapro, and also deal with a painful stomach condition no one has been able to diagnose. The stress was getting to me, and the withdrawal from that medication (i.e. poison!) is probably the worst thing I have ever had to deal with and may last some months so I am told. I almost bought cigs and went back to them, however, I was diagnosed with stage 1 emph which has reverted after a year of not smoking and I'm in the clear.

Three times about two weeks ago, I had packs of cigarettes in my hands about to buy them, but for me, going back would be a death sentance. I grabbed instead my hubby's Blu, which his carts are medium nic. The Nic seems to help with the withdrawal symptoms, a lot. It might be a placebo effect, I'm not sure.

I have ordered my own blu (waiting.......), with 0 nic carts, but the liquids I ordered in case I need a "hit " of nicotine on odd occassions. Hope that makes sense. Incidentally it would explain my teeny baby doses LOL.... I do not want high levels of Nic.

It makes perfect sense to me. I know people who have quit smoking for 1-5 years and then gone back. Going back is not an option for you. You should be able to cut your nic level fairly quickly though and maintain the vaping on a low or 0 nic level. Keep the 11mg juice if you feel you need a fix. It's better than going back to the "stinkies".

Regarding handling e-liquids:

When you buy unflavored nicotine juice (or flavored e-liquids), it comes mixed with PG and/or VG, so it won't harm you if you get it on your skin, even if you don't rinse it off.

From what I've read, a drop of pure nicotine liquid can be deadly when dropped on the skin, but you won't be buying any pure nicotine liquid. It will be diluted with propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerine, whatever you chose when you ordered it.
