Found that the metal ring on the body of the switch can be lightly sanded with very fine sandpaper or steel wool and it cleans the darkened metal and makes it shiny. The corrosion reduces power through put and by cleaning the metal ring off this way once a day you get almost no problems with misfires or low performance.
I hope puresmoker figures out a better metal to use in the future. Seems like the corrosion might actually be the black plastic being shaved off and sticking to the metal.

Hmmm.....I suspect that someone had dealt with PRC-77's, no?

I'm not exactly sure what that is, but if it has anything to copper traces, then yes.

That's just a trick I picked up a long time ago; good for removing various types of build up on just about anything that carries a current.

I took all the metal components off the switch, minus the spring, and soaked them in a dilute solution of muriatic acid because I was getting a lot of misfires, even after sanding the metal washer/o-ring. [about 5 parts water and 1 part muriatic] ... most hardware stores have a 32oz bottle for about 2 bucks.

I noticed that the posts had this waxy/oily film over them, except the spots where the o-ring was making contact. I pulled both posts out with a needlenose, and soaked them in the acid solution for about 5 minutes... it ate all the crud off the posts and I haven't had a misfire since and don't have to jam the button down all the way either.

Just be careful with muriatic. Don't let any splash on ya, and always add acid to water, not water to acid.

Not to change the subject, but I was investigating buying a Prodigy V2. However, I really can’t see buying something else to diddle with. I have enough of those already.

Same here. I've had so many problems with Protege switches that I just can't see buying another PS mod until they come up with a better switch solution.
