Except in the Provaris case the exact opposite of what you said is true. You have to really hold one to understand but the quality shows through in every aspect. A significant portion of the tube mods mentioned by BlkWolf are cheaply made chinese clones ripped off from the Provari to begin with.

There are a lot of other nice mods out there but dont let someone elses cheapness influence your decision either.

I'm starting to wonder who vapes to enjoy and who vapes to show off. I evaluate the quality of the device based on functionality and not fanboy quality. Yes as mentioned the ProVari is a well built device, overly priced for what it is. As you read the updates for the devices I can see that they have made attempts to catch up to the market however change is required to stay alive, and not having some of the standard features found 1 year ago in other devices until just rescently is not excuseable ( and just goes to show the lack of concern in my opinion).
As you will find out I vape to vape, I don't vape by numbers, I don't need fancy digital displays or even accurate read outs. I evaulate the equipment based on my needs which is why you will find my original posting non-bias in every sense of the word. I can see that you love the company, love your ProVari device and will likely never swap to anything ever again. I say great that you found what works for you, but please let others decide without having bias opinions shoved down their throat or bashing other PV's out there.
Vaping is Vaping, the devices are made to perform a specific functionality, you make it your own with choices, everyone one is different so I say, please just get over it.

No you rate the quality of the device based on YOUR perception of value which is something entirely different.

You very first post in this thread shows how concerned you are with prices. I never said there werent other great PVs out there.I recently started a questionnaire designed to help match people with a pv that matches what theyre looking for and helps those answering give a more accurate answer instead of SUPERIMPOSING THEIR OWN PRIORITIES OVER THE POSTERS.

The bias in your post is obvious to anyone who can read and is just as offensive as people who offer a Provari to someone on a strict 50 dollar budget or those who offer cig-alikes with 200 mAh to a 2 pack a day smoker of 40 years.

Bottom line just because youre cheap dont assume everyone else is and I wont assume everyone wants or needs a Provari either.

I'm glad that you have done your research, so let others have an opinion likewise. Obviously lack of reading in to my post lead us here to this point.
Again as listed and I quote, I don't care what people vape on, you make it your own with your own choices. I did the research without any type of bias opinions, without help and without input from anyone. I have vaped on a Blu, Joyetech, eGo APV, ProVari v.1, Zmax, Vmax and cheap box mod I made myself.

I'm not cheap for your information because I've owned a ProVari, looking in to a Bull Box mod, already picked up a Joyetech eVic which is being delivered. So your comment to me about such matters knowing so little about who I am just further demonstrates your ignorance. I won't take this to offence as I shouldn't, just for future reference things like this should say in Private message if your going to out right accuse me of things.

I have that and just a small 450mah ego mini (that is currently MIA) so I dont have a back up and never really thought that through I just kept giving away my egos to help people quit. I have a few 1.7 ohm cartos I swap in from time to time too. I have heard that in the Sigelie version the screen tends to have a problem falling in or out, so that sort of draws me away from that PV. Any other suggestions on a good VV device?

Hi Gav,
The Smoktech Zmax 2 has a well placed screen, but not OLED. The Sigelei has an OLED screen. I think maybe a few of the ones bought through the ECF co-op had a screen problem. I know that was an issue they were talking to their supplier about. I may be wrong about the co-op ones being the ones with the crooked screen. Anyway, there have been a few. I don't think its a widespread problem with them. Both the Smoktech Zmax 2 and Sigelei Zmax are good pvs, and it appears they are using the same circuitry. Both can take 1x 18650 or 2x 18350 batteries. Both are recessed so 510/ego threaded devices can sit in the recess. Both have variable voltage and variable wattage - so you can use both of those, although many people prefer the variable watts as it is more convenient.

The Vamo - also called the eGo APV - appears to have the same circuitry too. The Vamo is a bit more flexible - it can be used with 1x 18350, 2x 18350, or 1x 18650 batteries. The Vamo also has a deep recess, and from looking at mine I can see it has Ego threads as well as a 510 connection. I haven't tried any Ego threaded stuff on it. The Vamo also has variable voltage and variable wattage. It is a remarkably low price for a very good mod. I think we're all a bit amazed at the price right now actually.

On kicking the Bolt - you can kick it with an 18650 but you need to use two extender caps to do that. With one extender cap it takes an 18500 and a kick.

I fail to understand how someone could think a Provari is overpriced when its actually one of the best values on the market today.

It wasnt designed to have all the latest features and all the bells and whistles. It was designed to be rock solid and dependable.Maybe you dont see that but the stainless steel tube construction, the button rated at one million clicks, the quartz window and even the choice of a simple (and extremely reliable) led all support that fact. When they built this they built it to last.

Thats not going to appeal to everyone especially those looking for a calendar, a puff counter and a high temp alarm but the simple fact is that the more complicated you make an item the more likely it is to break down. That holds true for anything ever built.

I dont think its overpriced at all when you take that into consideration and from where Im sitting it looked like you were placing an extremely high importance on price so Im sorry if I misunderstood your intentions here and saw it as as just another unwarranted attack on a device that helped me kick a 2 pack a day 30 year habit.

I can see where your comming from, and yes everything is true the more electronics you put in to something the higher the failure rate. The simple fact is congratulations on kicking the analog habbit, that's why were all here. The road you take to get there is your choice, but from me to you I congratulate you on quitting. If its a 10 dollar device or a millon dollar device your still adding years to your life and making a healthy choice.
Well again congrats on quitting, truthfully vaping is so much better anyways. I enjoy my Sweet Tarts or Grape Bottlecap for that candy fix after dinner...m'mmm yumm. Never had an analog that I looked forward to enjoying.

Sorry again for the misunderstanding at my age I should know better than to make assumptions when I dont know someone or their intentions especially not after a couple of posts.

Value is in the eye of the beholder and I can see that they have come down in price since I looked at them so they are quickly becoming affordable for the general user. When I say general user I look at what sells really well which has been the devices that are from 69.99 in a kit to 130 without one, just an observation from other posts. The mini I believe I just saw it for around 90 and the Provari was running I believe mid 100's? That isn't to bad a price any longer and better than the over 210 and 250 they were running a while ago.

I can see this as not everyone is going to want all of those features and yea, the more advanced it is the more likely it is to break, can not disagree with that. I go for the more techie things because I am a tech geek but that is my reasoning, everyone is an individual.

Honestly the provari has come down in price so to recommend it is great, just not say everything else is crap. What I tend to go off about is that 90% of the time a Provari person comes in and accuses everyone who doesn't use a Provari to be using a crap device and it really, REALLY, pisses me off because it takes someone who is looking for honest unbiased positions and drives them towards one specific device instead of giving pro's and con's of devices or working to find which one would work. Some people don't want the ability to change the voltage and with that, we pretty much cut out the Provari and a large number of devices most of us go for. Not trying to bash anyone or any devices, just not a fan of a few and will even state several times, personal opinion. If more people did that, the random flame wars would slow or even end.

See blue in the above quote please, trying to be nice. Hope it is easier to read now, sorry about that. :)

Lol you dont have to be nice Im a big boy I can take it :) I appreciate your reply and I understand where you and a lot of the animosity to Provari users are coming from with this. I think its a two-edged sword sometimes because its the attitude that turns some people off from ever trying it.

If you get a chance visit my thread and look at the first post and you'll see that we agree on a lot of things. Im a tech guy myself pursuing my degree in applied sciences with a focus in web design.

Not everyone whos a Provari user is a rabid fanboy or believes it the perfect device for all users but I do get a little testy when its bashed instead of the people who actually deserve it.

You can find the thread here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/356817-questionnaire-help-new-members-decide-best-starter-kit-pv-them.html

I can tell you if I had a PV that had a full screen where I could program my own start menu or an animation that happens when I vape, could be used as a flashlight without the need of putting on a new head, and anything shiney and flashy I would probably drop my savings on it, so much geek, so little money.

I will look over the thread and take a look and yes, Provari tends to strike a nerve with me due to past issues. I am hoping this is the thread where i said not all Provari people are like that, only the most vocal it seems. So far every time I have mentioned Provari I have had someone cram their fist down my throat over PM's and in forum stating that I don't know what I am talking about and I am anti-american for not using a 100% american made device, blah blah blah. My emotions take over and I tend to go off like a grenade and you are right, we do agree on several things. Personally, i don't really care what people vape on as long as they enjoy it and it fits with them. I seem to have started as a guy trying to switch away from cigarettes to a PV collector, kind of what I like. I think i have changed PV's 3 times in two months because the "Oh shiney" syndrome kicked in.

Didn't mean to make it sound like all are, just it seems a number of them are hardcore trolls who search for provari to bash on people who are not using one and don't even realize, some of us have used/tried/owned one and just did not like the device.

Anyway, I should be working right now and think I should go back to that before my "boss" decides to wake up and check on me.

I've got a Zmax v2 gunmetal on the way as well as a boge f16 tank, and all the other basics. However, it was mentioned on a page that I can't post to yet, that I should get a 510 to 510 adapter. Anyone know where I can get one in gunmetal that doesn't look like crap on a zmax ?

I haven't seen any in gunmetal but I know firearm blueing will give some stuff the gunmetal look. The 510 to 510 sealed adaptor, which can be purchased from several vape shops like empire mods, shouldn't have an issue when connected, just make sure to clean off the threads.

If I am incorrect and it's a really bad idea, let me/him know.

Don't know of any gun metal ones. I have been using my Zmax a lot and don't use an adapter. It isn't a necessity. I think I read the same posts as you. One guy uses a 510-510 adapter on all his mods as a preference. But you don't need one with a Zmax - its not essential and I think you'll find the majority of Zmax users don't use one.
Like any pv or mod - just don't jam down the atty/carto/clearo when you screw it on. Sorry of you knew that already - not sure what your experience is.
If you do use an adapter, a shorty 510-510 can look ok.

Well, I'm relatively new, but have been reading allot and its been A LONG LONG time coming, OK, so I used a buddies Provari awhile back and that's what made think of vaping as an alternative to analogs. The real problem is that he was such a soap box Provari user that its been 5 months and now I learn that I could've gotten into a PV back then without the close to $300 initial setup. I only have an Atmos v2 Thermo right now, cause that was all the local head shops had, and I was up to a pack and a half a day before my first ecig.

I had no luck with the Bolt. I have the v2 Zmax and I love it, much better device. I also still use my LavaTubes but my prefrence would be the Z. I don't have a Provari so I can't compare it to the Z but I hear it is very similar and it is much cheaper!

What do you mean by no luck? I have LT2, Vamo, eGo VV, Telescop and Bolt and they all work well, only problem I've had is I screwed tops on too tight and have a problem with a few making connections now.

The Telescope and Bolt now have replaceable heads I'm thinking about getting, the Bolt adds the deep well you can use with some clearomizers.

For first venture into VV I would suggest something like an eGo VV or Vamo to see if that is for the person stepping into VV. If they just want to use it at a constant setting, have protection and low battery cut off, their are other options than high end ones.

Soo many choices :).

Above are the mods currently in my collection. A standard size Provari which I use with the 18490 and 18650 batteries. My first mods were the Silver Bullet and BB. I recently purchased the Smoktech Variable Voltage Gripper to replace taking the Provari with me everywhere when out-and-about on quick runs out of the house to run errands.

The SB and BB are very nice APV's, but since discovering variable voltage they are currently collecting dust and waiting patiently as backup devices in my vape bag.

I could have Kicked my Silver Bullet, but I change between flavors frequently and adjust the voltage accordingly with each one. To adjust the wattage in a Kicked SB, the battery and Kick must be removed and adjusted with a tool. That would have been an extreme hassle to me, plus it would have put unneccessary wear and tear on the relatively fragile Kick. Those are the two main reasons I decided to go with a dedicated variable voltage mod.

My favorite mod is obviously the Provari. I like its build quality and manufacturing attention to detail construction. I want a device built to last years. I like the confidence I have in the company that will continue to service my device even after warranty. The best feature is the Accuset microprocessor that constantly regulates the voltage to what I set for the entire duration of the battery's life. The built in ohms tester and voltmeter come in surprisingly handy.

Is it over-priced? I don't happen to think so. I believe you get what you pay for when all things are considered. I realize that it doesn't have variable wattage, but with my vaping style I do not need it. I use cartotanks almost exclusively, and use the same 3.0 ohm cartomizer in each of my nearly two dozen tanks. So, I personally have no need for variable wattage.

Having said that, I was looking for another V V mod for my out-and-about runs, and wanted something smaller and lighter than the full size Provari. I would have loved to have gotten a Mini Provari, but I couldn't justify another $200 + new batteries at the present time.

The $50 VV Gripper fits the bill nearly perfectly for what I needed. It has a nice rubberized surface, is lightweight and fits easily inside my palm for stealth vaping, fits easily inside a shirt or coat pocket, has a very clear LED display, and easy menu system. As with many of the cheaper variable voltage devices that use PWM, it does hit hotter than what is set, but I adjust accordingly. If it lasts until this coming April it will have served its purpose. At that time I hope to have saved up enough to treat myself for my one year anniversary of being smoke free with the Mini Provari that I really wanted.

Awesome reply haha really enjoyed reading the whole thing! (no sarcasm) Can you kick a device with an 18650? I think that is what you were saying, to get another extender then use my 18650's. The only reason I ask is wherever I see it the website says to use it with an 18490/18500

    P1000563.jpg

Only way to fly IMO with the Kick. You put the kick in the extension and leave it there. This eliminates the risk of damage every time you swap out batteries. I believe you need two extensions with your Bolt to use 18650's.

As for a first VV, mine was the little $35 VV Box mod from MadVapes.com. I've had it for 1.5 years, and it vapes every bit as well as my Provari ... just no whistles & bells.
