Ok, so I have changed a lot of things over the last year! I quit smoking analogs all together, started exercising 30 minutes longer and increased my workouts to be harder when I did. I also lowered my calorie intake, daily. I have gained 25 lbs since quitting last year! At this point I don't care that my chest doesn't hurt anymore or that I vape more now than when I quit alltogether. I am ...... that I'm packing on pounds when I worked so hard to take off more than 53 lbs before I quit!

Reason for my post??.....

Has anyone else experienced this??? I just want to know that I'm not alone.

If anyone has any positive notes to add about quitting smoking??? I would love to hear them! Bring on the ++++

I have to work like the Devil just to maintain my overweightedness!
5'2" @ 150# is a little too much.
Has to do more with age, I do believe. (M-hmm, menopause!)
Could it be though that you are packing on muscle??
I also have a 6-pack, three rolls on each side, and they go all the way around. So maddening, it just won't go away.
I really had to be careful when I started vaping, I was so hungry...withdrawal.

Nope I don't eat more. I split up the meals and just eat more often. Every couple of hours. Diet has only changed in that I take in less calories so I assume that the weight gain is from my heart not working so hard since I quit analogs!

I may feel better but for us women.... weight gain is probably the number one reason for returing to smoking!

I was hoping someone would have some words of encouragement about quitting smoking! I could really use some good reasons or success stories for why others choose to quit and or vape only!

Like: what are some positives to quitting smoking that others have noticed?

I've been vaping for about 5 months now, and I have gained a few pounds. I started cutting out little things like snacking late at night or snacking on fruit instead. I dont drink more than 1 soft drink during the day... etc. Now those extra pounds are going away.

You just have to tweek your normal routine and things should start seeming normal again.

Actually after I went to only vaping I gained back the 25 pounds I lost and added 10 more. Didn't change anything except the cigs. My doctor said it was caused by not getting the same amount of nicotine from the e-cig and that my metabolism should straighten out eventually. He also said he'd rather have me at this weight not smoking analogs than 40 pounds lighter and smoking.
Positive note my doctor is fine with e-cigs.

I did gain 8 pounds the first month I vaped and stopped analogs, that's a lot for me as I was only 122, I couldn't stop eating, but after a month I went down to what I was eating before, I do exercise more and eat more fruit/vegetables so I'm almost back to where I was. We unfortunately also have to change our routine when quitting analogs to make sure we stay healthy, you're on a good routine tho, keep it up I'm sure it will keep showing more and more every month!

Gosh! I've kept the weight off. I snack much less than I did prior to vaping. Other than mealtimes, I'd rather vape than nibble. [NOTE: I am not a skinny guy; I've had to watch my weight my whole life. Wore "husky" size as a kid.]

As for the nicotine, even though I vape at only 12mg, I vape so much that I can get more nicotine than my body craves. I have to alternate with 0mg. [Doing so gives the nicotine hits more TH anyway.]

Perhaps lower your carbs for a few months and see if that improves things. I know it is the sweet stuff you want when quitting, but you will be healthier with a few extra pounds and not smoking. And you have probably gained muscle mass to account for some of it so that is good. Don't go back. I am trying to go where you have been and already gaining a few pounds so what I may live longer even if a little "fluffy"

But you look so svelte in your smoking jacket!?! :)

redhothood, you are not alone.

I have gained 10 lbs since quitting tobacco totally 3 months ago...and I have not been eating a single calorie more now than when I smoked; in fact, I'm eating less. Like you, I'm very frustrated and upset about it, but not enough to even think about going back to cigarettes; I'm done with those forever.

I always thought that weight gain after quitting smoking was due to over-eating from missing nicotine...obviously, that's not true, as I've been still getting that...so what's going on?

My guess, based on only personal experience; I believe that there's a chemical cocktail in tobacco cigarettes that changes our metabolism... it's not all about nicotine alone. We're getting nicotine and not eating more, so why the weight gain?

I will say that the worst of the weight gain for me was the first two months. This last month, I've been holding steady...actually, I've just recently lost a couple of pounds (and not been doing anything differently), so I'm hoping my body has adjusted :) Yours probably will, too.

If so, there is a light at the end of the tunnel...at least I that's what I believe!

You left out the most important detail, ur diet. Do u eat more now that u vape? Also, u said u vape much more than u used to smoke... what nic % are do u normally use? If its higher and ur taking in more, that messes with ur heart rate of course and could be counter productive to ur exercise.

She said she lowered her calorie intake.
