I hear so many stories on when people get the first e - cig they just plain quit after 20-40 odd years of smoking.I have been smoking for 20 years since I was 15.My question is did everyone that quit just magically get the e cig and quit totally or did you try a cutting down method? Maybe Im a different breed but I still smoke some analogs while vaping and it really pisses me off but I feel something is missing.I am about to set a quit date to only vape just getting this off my chest :)

Yes, I have noticed that it is different for everyone. Must really have something to do with our internal body(brain?). But that is not to say that there are just probably some, who just need something to do with their hand. And those who really need the nicotine too. I truely believe there are alot of factors (far too many to attempt to mention here) at play as to why vaping is easier for some and harder for others. At best I think we would only be guessing at the levels of addiction each individual has.

As with any other addiction, just take it one day at a time. Don't worry about the occasional analog sometimes. Just keep at it, if you think you need the quit date, try that. One less analog a day would bring you closer to that day. You know yourself best. Just keep trying one day at a time. You can do it.

I received my NPRO kit on March 9th, 2009. That day, I smoked (some) of my last cigarette. The juice in the cartridge tasted awful. That cigarette tasted even worse! By the second day I found myself actually liking the juice flavor.
Thankfully, I was given three different strengths of liquid cartridges, and found that I really did need the High strength one, which I had already bought a bottle of refill liquid of both high and med. I had been smoking 44 years, was at about 3 packs a day!

The high in that case was 18mg/ml, but found myself unable to put the ecig down. So I went to a higher strength from Johnson Creek, the 24mg/ml, and have been quite content with that ever since. As I go forward, I am actually just now getting a handle on that strength and slowing down my sessions a little, going forward from here will try to either slow down "vaping" (hate that word!) or go to a lower density. Either way, I'm not setting any goals for now, will continue with this. Happily! But to answer your question: I set out to quit cigarettes, my mental state was set, I had to make it work. I did!! Look below: I made it, just fine!!

I'm completely off of analogs going on three months. Never have the urge to light up, but due to conditioned behavior, occasionally find myself reaching for a cigarette pack on my side table which, of course, is no longer there (50 years, two packs a day). The nicotine I get from the vapor satisfies all my nicotine cravings. Whatever other chemicals I was getting from tobacco cigarettes my body doesn't seem to have any need for, thank Buddha.

I already had the mindset of wanting to use e-cigs to stop smoking analogs, so when my 510 arrived, I was ready to give it a try. From my first "vape" until now, I haven't had any analogs. I stopped mid-pack -- somewhere around here I have 2 1/2 packs of cigs, and I'm not ready to throw them out just yet.

I've had a few moments where I REALLY wanted an analog, but fought the urge. I've also had a few mood-swings that went along with it. But the urges are almost completely gone now, and I'm not even vaping as much as I did during the first few days.

My next challenge will be to give up the nicotine, but I'm not ready yet. I'm okay with my 11mg e-juice, I'm feeling good, and I'm going to ride this wave for a while longer. I certainly don't want to rush myself, just to get frustrated and risk going back to analogs.

This tip helped me (maybe it will help you, too): My usual e-juice is 11mg, but during the first couple of days, I realized I needed more. So I purchased a bottle of 18mg (same flavor). I use the 18mg during more stressful or more urgent times (when I get moody or when I first wake up in the morning). The rest of the day, I use the 11mg. That little extra boost of nicotine (when I need it), gets me through.

Good luck, and don't fret too much over what others are doing. We're all different, and when you're ready, you'll know.

One method:

Never do analog inside to promote weaning.
Find good juice with good throat hit.
Start to enjoy nice smells inside house.
Start to enjoy better breathing, etc.
Once satisfied with your e-cig, compare side by side with analog; you may well find e-cig tastes better and provides better throat hit.
Once you realize in your heart the e-cig is nicer to use, then you should have to make minimal effort to stop analogs.
Now you can start to get irritated at Philip Morris, media, and Gov for attempting to ban these little wonders.

When I got my EVO/M401, I also ordered the high nic carts. Being an ultra light 100 smoker, it totally satisfied me.

I had an analog dangling off my lips when I opened my package and when I realized that the batts were charged, I doused the ciggy and never picked one up again.

When I first started, I would vape like there was no tomorrow. It was like a pacifier. Now that I'm past the second month of being analog free, I try to vape less.

It also helps if you have a passthrough working at 5v. I have a usb car adapter and a Kensington Power Pack. I am a dripper/dipper and the batts with the carts just don't seem to do it for me at 3.7v anymore. So I only use them when I'm out and about. I'm waiting for my Prodigy to arrive so I can go wireless @ 5v., lol.

Don't give up. Even if you have to vape a really high nic juice, it will help that nic craving and satisfy that oral fixation. Once you can get satisfied with the nic level, try to cut back to a lower nic.

I do agree that vaping is not the same as an analog. There is definitely something missing. But then again, it is the best alternative that I have used. Just remember the big picture, that should help. Good luck. BTW, I smoked analogs for over 30 years.

I think everyone is different, there are people on here that have been vaping for a very long time that still smoke analogs, there are some that get their e-cig and quit immediately. To each their own. :)

I weaned myself off the first time I quit with e-cigs.. then I had a relapse.. went back to analogs almost exclusively for several months... Then I promised a few people I'd quit when I got a new shipment in... that shipment came in on the 8th of this month. I had 1 final "good bye" smoke and haven't had another one yet. The first.. idk 36hours sucked... (mostly because I felt like I COULDNT smoke and when I feel like I cant do something I always go and do it just to prove I can.. but I didnt.. so that's probably what sucked the most for me) After that it was all down hill.

I think you just have to put your mind to it, and whatever your reasons for quitting analogs are.. try and keep them foremost in your mind.. it really does help. Please remember that if you need support there are lots of people on this forum willing to give it (I have a whole thread of me whining when I started quitting this time lol)

Best of luck to you

I got my first e-cig April 8th, before that I smoked 2 packs a day for over 40 yrs. I wish I could say I took to vaping like a duck to water and never touched another ananlog, but it didn't happen. I envy the people that can. I still have a cigarette when I feel that if I don't I will become a homicidal manic.I don't beat myself up about it. A pack will last me about 10 days now and I feel that is a big improvement. Do I want off of them completely? Yes...but all things in good time. I know it is going to take me longer, a 40 year habit isn't killed overnight.

You are not alone in not quiting right away, so don't beat yourself up. I got my first PV (901) in mid-February. My intention was to quit. I immediately went from a pack and a half a day to 8 a day and then weekly cut that down. What made all the difference, however, was when I got my SD the first of April. I quit completely at that point. I needed the consistency that the SD provides to be able to quit completely.

2-3 packs a day (I woulda smoked 4 but couldn't find the time) for 20 years. 1st day went down to 10. 2nd day 8, 3rd day 4.5,next day 2.5 cigs........then hung at 2 for a couple days and they just tasted like ****. I guess I ordered some 36mg to cut and tried it straight and that was the edge I needed to break the CAMEL's back. Now I just hit the 36mg when I need it.

My wife was less than a pack for 15 years and she just can't kick the habit. I think everyone is addicted to a different part of the cigs. I just think vaping tastes better.

As long as you keep vaping and the cigs are less than they used to be, that is progress. Eventually I would say just pick a day, because every day I smoked just 1 was another day they were still part of my life. I think distance and time makes it so much easier to not look back

I did both for about a week, Steve. I punished myself by smoking the wife's Merit Ultra Lights whenever I reached for an analog. They just might be the most disgusting smokes on the market and they gave me immediate headaches. It wasn't hard to stay away from them in favor a vape.

Masochistic, maybe. But, if you have your ole favorite brand around, chances are you're going to cave at some point. So, get some analogs you really don't like and have LOTS of grape e-liquid on hand! LOL

(btw, got my order today, thank you) =)

I went a couple months of vaping and 4 analogs a day, until one day I went all day without an analog. Didn't even notice until that night. Having the right e-cig/mg juice for your needs makes a difference. If you're batting e-cig technical problems it's just easier to reach for an analog.

When your body no longer needs them they'll fall away. I plan to cut down on the e-cig and be totally free. I have no desire to quit analogs and be hooked to an e-cig. It's not a quit smoking trophy for me. I still smoke... e-cigs.

Listen to your body and think total freedom and see what happens.

I've been vaping for a few months. I'm still smoking analogs...I was at about 5 a day and pretty proud of myself. Then I hit HIGH stress (my mom passed away unexpectantly last week). I'm back up to about 10 a day. I'll have to work back down. Don't beat yourself up over it.

I do believe that technical issues make you reach for an analog. I still haven't figured out how to get a CONSISTENT good vape. When I don't fell like putzing with it, I reach for an analog.

I think 5 a day is much better than 20 a day.....and that in itself is an acheivement.
