quitting without really trying

I have been smoking Newports (pad) for 22 years. About 4 years ago I bought one of those "Smoke Anywhere" kits from a mall kiosk. By the time I left the mall I felt nauseous from the sample and never touched the thing. The guy wouldn't return it. I recently started to see those commercials for Blu Cigs with Stephen Dorff. I actually liked the guy in Blade and thought it was cool to see any type of "smoking" commercial on TV, so I picked up a disposable. It was okay, but nothing like a cigarette. I was going to get one of their premium kits, but then I found this place and realized that probably wasn't the best course of action. So, I found a store near me called VapeXcape (I highly recommend them. Prices aren't the best, but service that is second to none). They set me up with what I guess you would call a mini kit (the kind that sort of look like cigarettes). Cost is not a factor for me, and I was open to the bigger mods, although uncertain how comfortable I would be with those. The owner was adamant that I start with these until I get myself off the Newports, and then if I like it come back and start buying the other stuff. So I got a couple batteries, some cartos, tips, and three flavors. I started out with the menthol flavor to try to replicate what I smoked, but I'm finding I like the other flavors much more. I have a strawberries and champagne flavor that is really doing it for me.

Now I went into this looking to cut back on my smoking and have something that I can use in places where I can't smoke, namely Ravens and Orioles games, where the state just banned smoking anywhere in the stadium. I still have an almost full pack of Newports sitting here. It has been over 24 hours, and I find that I don't really want one. I'm not forcing myself not to smoke them. I've picked one up a couple times out of habit, but now even unlit, I think it smells a bit nasty. I consider lighting one up, but I just think that I would rather hit that e-cig. I hope it keeps up. I've tried to quit many times, but I become a miserable person. This almost seems too easy.

Good for you! I quit almost 4 years ago with my first puff... turns out I liked it better than smoking and it was a no brainier.

Get your self a nice Mod of some sorts and start trying out some good quality juice.

FYI, I was a Menthol smoker for 20 years also... but I DO NOT like the menthol juice! don't know why its strange.

I really don't like the menthol juice either. You know, the only reason I think I smoked menthol analogs was because it was the only way I could smoke with any sort of flavor. I hate non-menthol smokes. With vaping you can get any flavor under the sun, so why limit myself just to try and replicate the analogs? It doesn't make sense. If someone bakes me a Newport flavored cake I probably wouldn't eat it.

I'm going to go to a better mod really soon. Maybe a ProVari, but I still think I will keep these minis for when I'm out and about. The battery life is pretty good, and I'm getting a good amount of vapor. I'm using 24mg juice and it's giving me a good throat hit.

Congratulations thus far! I'm coming up on three weeks no analogs tomorrow. I didn't get too serious about vaping until I veered off from cig-a-likes and into PVs personally. I absolutely love vaping now! Had cravings the first couple weeks, none in the last week and they smell gross to even be around. Good luck my friend. ExPAD Camel Menthol smoker here, but I don't vape menthol either. It's not any good to me for some reason. RY4 for me mainly.

Welcome to ECF, Ravensfan!

Said Twisted,

FYI, I was a Menthol smoker for 20 years also... but I DO NOT like the menthol juice! don't know why its strange.

On the other hand, I detested menthol in regular cigarettes, but most of what I vape now is either straight menthol or has menthol as one of the flavor components. Lots of people report the same thing: menthol smoker, now non-menthol vaper, and non-menthol smoker, now menthol-loving vaper. Go figger!

Same here, except only 13 years. But I can't vape any tobacco flavors, just can't stand them for some reason. Love me some fruity flavors though!

Oh and +1 for getting a nice mod. You'll find it's so much better than even the good cig-a-likes. Congrats and good luck!

Hey ravensfan, where is that store located? I get down to Baltimore at least once a week for work and there are no store fronts up here in Harrisburg.

It's actually in Reisterstown, on Main St. in the historic district. It's really a classy place and very well done. They have a nice lounge with televisions. The owners are very knowledgeable and friendly. It's a relatively new business, but I was in there for about 90 minutes and there was a very good stream of customers. Great selection of mods, tanks, and juice.

I think their website is under construction, but they have a great facebook page.

I usually buy my juices online but I'm gonna look that place up when I'm Down that way. Thanks for the tip. I hate not having any stores around here.

There is another place in Ellicott City called "Vape Dojo". I have never been there, but Ellicott City isn't too far from Hagerstown, and it looks like a nice place as well.
